We arrived in Croatia on our journey to begin living on board GypsyDjango sailing in the Med. After everything we have experienced and the short notice to get a freight ferry across from Italy Ancona to Zadar I was pretty shattered and very empty. Felt really sad I was not making the most of the moment. Definitely needed a tequila. It was as if I was walking around watching someone else on this spectacular new home. I just needed sleep.Read more

5am wide awake. The sun rises really early in Croatia being so far to the east. We wandered outside to this view in Milna Marina. I definitely felt so much better. How can one be worthy of this new life - the only way is to share it with others and even more so do it in person. I look forward to the world unlocking and visitors to GypsyDjango. The life of living on a boat, so many tasks, where to start? 😁Read more

Another really early morning on GypsyDjango. 5am and a boat ride to catch that sunrise shot. Today we were leaving Milna to Trogir and felt really excited for the adventure. We discovered that our first sail would be with dirty props and possible leak needing where the boat came lose from the lazy line in a storm during winter. At the end of the day another lazy line became twisted around our prop as it was entangled with ours and we didn’t leave as we would be getting a diver to release it. Bring on tomorrow.Read more

After an almost perfect night in a bay off Milna - one we had chosen in a hurry after a decision in the evening to leave the Marina, as the summer rates had kicked in at 100 percent more and I knew that sleeping in Marinas was not something I wanted to be doing anyway on GypsyDjango. We traveled today with a mixture of sailing and engine minus strong winds the 19 nm to one of my favorite places in Croatia- Trogir. We were able to tie up for the afternoon in the marina free of charge with concession to do shopping for food as they recognized our boat from the previous owners and the fact that Kevin spent 6 weeks finalizing the purchasing transaction last December. The Croatians are very special people. Using the tender we traveled across the bay to park in the canal amongst the local fishing craft and marveled how safe Croatia is. We then had a brilliant sail as the wind had picked up some 5nm to our sleeping spot for the night. A good day all in all 💕Read more

A perfect day resting in a bay called campsite, following what seems to be becoming a pattern of sunrise, coffee Spanish boat maintenance and swim. We will sleep here tonight at Trogir and tomorrow make our way to Milna to have our new anodes fitted.Read more

An interesting day - left Trogir and went to an island called solta on our way to Milna where our boat was moored over winter as we need to replace something called an anode. We look up the various little bays with a tool called Navily which rates the bay from wind and swell protection and gives pictures. Well we chose Sesula and then we made our first mistake. On our way in to drop anchor a local on a dingy sped over to tell us we would be better protected on a bouy and there was a nice restaurant we could look at. Very friendly. So we followed him and tied up. He then started demanding a time we would go to the restaurant and I started feeling uncomfortable. We went over later when we went for a walk and looked at the menu. A coke was R60. We went back to the boat and cooked food. We are not on holiday we are living so there is no money for luxury. At 7.40 he came on his boat to demand we go eat. Kevin told him I was resting and he said we would be lucky if he did not cut our rope and we don’t know what the Croats are like. We promised to eat there tonight. This morning we got up at 5 for a quick run on the beautiful island and left the bay. Was not a great experience but lesson learned. Nothing for nothing.Read more

What a perfect day. Woke up to sunrise and a lovely short run on Solta. Went back to the boat and released our lines and motored out to drop anchor between 2 small islands for breakfast. We then motored to Milna to meet Nick to replace our anodes. We then put GypsyDjango lettering on the boat. We had a lovely dinner moored against the hotel key.Read more

Today was a very difficult day. The realization of how isolated we are without human interaction has sunk in and the more we choose secluded bays without appropriate data coverage the harder it gets. Woke up in Milna at hotel quay. Maybe I just need a break. We moved the boat to place the sticker and the buoys popped out and then I released the forward-line incorrectly. I was pretty over it. Need to work on my parking/control of yacht. Positive note, had a lovely run. Sailed/motored to Pakleni - Uvala Tarsce.Read more

Bad nights sleep in rocky bay Bakarik bay next to Hula. Not secluded enough. Went for an amazing run to the castle. Left for Vis midday and had an exceptional sail. Wind 26k at one stage. Moored in little bay Uvala Ruda in big gust winds. Successful mooring- happy with our progress. GD holds really well in swells.Read more

A beautiful bay called Uvala rada. Calm peaceful and with wonderful people. Lovely beach. Good anchor with mooring lines tied and protection from the bad winds we had. Limited signal.

Left Uvala Rada early to head to Vis. Sad to leave. Kev worked the anchor and there was insufficient communication around the task completed while I was heading us to land. Kev had to rescue. Stressful moment. Motor to Vis a nightmare. Day cleared up. Vis marina too noisy and no WiFi to headed to little bay with submarine bunker around corner to shelter and spend night.Read more

Awoke to 2m depth and anchor sitting almost twisted. Decided to leave and go see blue cave. A professional sight seeing experience now: 70 kuna each. 5 minute. Bruce gave us a wonderful trip. Left just in time - glad we went early. Decided not to stay on vis for night and get to Pakleni as we needed to re gas fridge on Milna. Good sailing avg 5kn. Will return to Uvala Tarsce.Read more

After Trogir we returned to Pakleni Uvala Tarsce. We had an early morning run and discovered the marina on the other side of the island. A lovely bay. This afternoon we moored in Uvala Vinisce. After all of the solitude I loved the hum of the people but not the mosquitos. Have to get repellent!!Read more
