  • ⛪Cologne Cathedral

    Of course, we used our short stop in Cologne to visit the famous Cologne Cathedral. As soon as we left the station, the enormous towers rose majestically into the sky. The Gothic architecture looked both stunning and fascinating. Inside, the atmosphere felt calm and special. The colorful stained-glass windows filled the cathedral with beautiful light. Many tourists admired the countless historical details of the church. The high ceilings and artistic decorations were especially impressive. Cologne Cathedral is one of Germany’s most famous landmarks and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even though the visit was short, it became one of the highlights of the trip. Right outside the cathedral, we could already feel the vibrant atmosphere of Cologne. A perfect stop on the way to the North Sea.

    The second day on Borkum started with a visit to the beautiful North Beach of the island. Early in the morning, a fresh North Sea breeze drifted across the wide sandy beach. The sea looked calm while also feeling endlessly vast. Everywhere, you could hear seagulls and the sound of the waves. Many visitors enjoyed the sunny weather right by the water. The soft sand and fresh sea air made the stay especially relaxing. Along the promenade, there was a peaceful holiday atmosphere. Again and again, amazing views of the North Sea and the endless horizon appeared. North Beach is one of Borkum’s most famous places and perfectly captures the island feeling.   • 🚢Lightship Borkumriff

    This day included a visit to one of Borkum’s most famous maritime attractions – the lightship Borkumriff. Today, the historic ship serves as a museum near the harbor area of the island. Even from the outside, the bright red ship looked impressive and unique. In the past, the lightship acted as an important navigation point for ships crossing the North Sea. Especially during fog and stormy weather, it was essential for maritime safety. During the tour, many fascinating parts of the ship could be explored. The narrow corridors and technical rooms gave a realistic impression of life on board. The old radio and navigation equipment were especially interesting to see. It was easy to imagine how challenging yet fascinating daily life for the crew must have been. The lightship represents an important piece of northern German maritime history. At the same time, the harbor area offered a wonderful nautical atmosphere with beautiful water views. A very interesting and educational excursion on Borkum.

    The New Lighthouse is one of the most famous landmarks on the island of Borkum. Even from far away, the tall tower could already be seen rising above the dunes. The red and white lighthouse immediately created a real North Sea atmosphere. During the visit, the island’s maritime charm could be felt everywhere. Many visitors stopped to admire the impressive structure up close. With its remarkable height, it is one of the tallest lighthouses in Germany. Looking up to the top of the tower was especially fascinating. Around the lighthouse, the atmosphere felt peaceful and relaxed. The fresh sea air and sunny weather made the experience even better. The lighthouse is not only an important navigation mark but also one of the island’s most popular photo spots. Visiting it is simply part of every trip to Borkum.

  • 🚶🏻‍♀️Mudflat Walk

    In the afternoon, an exciting mudflat hike was on the schedule. During low tide, the sea retreated far into the distance and revealed the seabed. Together with many other visitors, we walked across the mudflats of the North Sea. The soft ground beneath our feet felt truly unique. Along the way, shells, tiny crabs, and lugworms could be discovered. At the same time, we learned a lot about the special ecosystem of the Wadden Sea. The UNESCO World Heritage Site impressed everyone with its vast landscape and extraordinary nature. Again and again, explanations showed how important the mudflats are for animals and plants. The peaceful atmosphere and fresh sea breeze made the hike unforgettable. On the horizon, both the island and the open sea could be seen at the same time. A mudflat hike is simply an essential part of every North Sea holiday and creates lasting memories.

  • 🦭Seal Sandbank "Hohes Riff"

    This day offered a very special nature experience – the seal bank called “Hohes Riff.” Many seals live here off the coast of Borkum in their natural habitat. Even the trip there was a highlight with beautiful views across the North Sea. On the sandbank, numerous seals were resting peacefully in the sun. Some slowly moved toward the water while others curiously watched their surroundings. It was especially impressive to see the animals completely free in nature. The calm atmosphere out at sea made the excursion even more memorable. Again and again, the seals could be seen gliding elegantly through the water. At the same time, we learned more about the protection of these animals and their habitat in the Wadden Sea. The seal bank is one of the most fascinating natural places around Borkum. The combination of sea, sandbanks, and wildlife created unforgettable impressions. A wonderful excursion into the natural beauty of the North Sea.
