    Once we were inside the fort, we paid an extra entrance fee to visit the Red Fort Centre, where there are exhibitions relating to the history of the fort, as well as a CGI film telling its story. While we were in there, the heavens opened. We had a drink in the café, thinking it might stop. It didn't! So we continued our visit regardless. 

    Next was Naubat Khana, or Drum House, which stands at the entrance to the palatial complex. In its glory days, musicians from here would announce the arrival of the Emperor or other important members of the court. Music was also played five times a day at set hours. Most of India's royal palaces have a Naubat Khana at their entrance.

    Two later Mughal kings - Jahandar Shah (1712 - 1713) and Farrukhsiyar (1713 - 1719) were both assassinated in this building.
