I woke up at 4:50 and was devastated to discover my alarm would go off in 10 minutes 😒 We got up to say goodbye to everyone, eat breakfast and pack. Danny said he would be a max 40 minutes before he came back to get us. He took 2 hours. Just upset because I could have slept longer.
He drove us to the next town over to the bus station where we were told different times for the buses - 8:20 and 9:20. Having no faith in the system, he then left us alone in a location of questionable functionality to fend for ourselves. We asked him where to stand and he said under the sign that said Veliko Taranovo.... all letters are In the Cyrillic alphabet... what pointless advice. 😒
The bus was pretty on time - only 10 minutes late. It was a tiny little thing but we got on woohoo! One stress down! The bus took an hour through windy mountains.
Veliko Tarnovo looks like a shit hole but it's been really talked up so im holding out hope..
We got off the bus and Will was about to wee himself so that was job one.
Job two was find wifi to contact our host but first we for some banitzas at the convenience store nearby.
We got a lady taxi driver who didn't speak English. I'm so over giving them the address, then saying ok, putting our luggage in the boot, sitting in the car and then the driver communicating they don't know the address. Like, if you don't know where you are going don't let me get in the car 😩
Anyway she drove us. I was having such bad anxiety the whole way because she didn't understand the address so we "communicated" to take us to the castle - I didn't know if she had understood.
We were told it was about 3km away. But because today is some Slavic holiday there were road closures and we went on some massive detour. I focused on my breathing. Lol
We got dropped off at the bottom of a hill near the castle and had to lug our bags up because of another road closure.. -.-
We found a cafe with free wifi and sat there for a few hours while we waited for our host to reply.
He never did so we went looking for the apartment. Boy oh boy was that not fun. Why is it so difficult every time? When we put the address into maps it took us to a bunch of trees.
We, again, had to ask several different people where to go. I was so hot and flustered. It wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have our luggage.
We asked the people across the street and they took 4 minutes to figure out where to go but they found it for us thank heavens.
The owner was inside so we were thankful the journey was over.
He was nice but had the worst coffee breath and his English wasn't the best so it really took a long time for him to string sentences together.
The view is spectacular- it's right across from the fortress/castle and on the best street we have seen so far. The area has a nice vibe - lots of souvenir shops.
I had a 4 hour nap IN A BED ❤️❤️❤️ and we both spent an unnecessary amount of time on the toilet just savoring the moment.
After my nap we went searching for food and an ATM. We got rejected from 3 separate ATM's with our travel card so we just used Wills normal bank card which is annoying and would have cost a lot more. We don't know why majority of the Bulgarian ATMs haven't worked.
There was a congregation of people in the street waiting for a parade or something but as we didn't know the start time we didn't bother hanging around.
We ate at a pizza/Grill resturant and took the leftovers home to put in the fridge.
I had a shower but the water turned cold halfway through so I'll have to shave the other leg and condition my hair tomorrow haha.
We plan to have a sleep in extremely lazy tomorrow - so very excited.
We have 5 nights here so we have time. There is a multimedia tourist thing across the road I want to go to. it is medieval things out the front - Veliko Tarnovo was the old capital of Bulgaria apparently?
Will is watching liar liar on the to at the moment.
I still have nightmares about 'the claw' thanks Trevor. 😰
I was so thirsty when we went walking. I need to drink more water.
SO HAPPY THAT THERE ARE NO ANTS IN MY BED.
I don't know if our Johanna and Danny enjoyed having us. Comments they both made this morning kind of put me off a bit. Danny said something along the lines of "rose picking isn't your thing" LOL
That was probably Will complaining about his back but still little awkward.
They knew I don't like early mornings but I really enjoy picking. They must just not know me well enough to know the things aren't related.
I hate getting up for work but I do love my job. Nothing will make me like mornings lol.
I think Will took the piss too often too. That's a cultural thing though and can't be changed.
Their loss 😛
I did like them a lot though.

Things I have previously forgotten to add:
- Will fell in an ant nest when removing stumps/roots and had bites all over his back
- Jaxon turned 1 yesterday and got diagnosed with chixkenpox
- Yesterday I was very tired and after my shower went to the room to get changed - Will called out from the other room " uhm, isn't the blinds open on there?" Yes, yes they were... I flashed the entire street - we are Pretty much on ground level.
Ok so, I slept In Only until 9:45 because Will called Helen and I needed to say happy birthday to her so I woke up.
We left the house around 12. We would have left much earlier but it was bucketing down with rain.
It stopped but naturally started again when we started walking.
I Iike the always flowing bubblers all of Europe seem to have. I like that the water just stays running and you dont need to press a button - it's beneficial for stray animals and birds too. :)
After about 1km we took shelter in a cafe and had a drink to wait the storm out a little bit.
The juice I got was expensive- well not really but we have now accustomed to east European prices and this fresh juice was a whopping $5
Outrageous lol.
I was so hungry by now because it was 1pm so I wanted to eat asap so I made us go to the first resturant we are across. It was rubbish lol. Will kept giving me crap because once we left we learnt there was a burger shop next door " you couldn't have walked another 5m could you?"
Hehe oh well. I just wanted to eat because if you don't know the city you don't know how long you might walk until you find the next place.
After we just kept walking and came across a fresh produce market. I bought a bunch of cherries for a steal! I got about half a kilo for $2 and they look fresh and delicious!
We went back to a grocery store we had passed earlier and bought some staples i.e. Milk, bread, cheese, cereal, and sandwich ingredients for us to make lunch with. Loving that we have a fridge to store things! I also bought some tea :)
Will went and got a burger from the store he saw earlier. We walked back to the apartment, taking gorgeous photos along the way and dropped everything off.
We went across the road to the 'Tsarevgrad Turnov' multimedia centre.
Even though I didn't have ID I got a student discount woohoo! So it was 20 Lev all up. 10 for Will, 5 for me and another 5 because I wanted to take pictures. I got a little sticker for my photo to say it was an approved device lol.
There was a school group in front of us so that was super annoying because we had to lag.
It basically was a museum with figurines showing how life was like in the fortress during the second Bulgarian rule. It showed insides houses, different trades, the king/queen (Tsar?) on their thrones, weapons, clothing and a battle scene of a crusader being captured.
We were told that there was videos in English - in my Jess I imagines screen sized projections and not the little laptop we walked past early on - so we missed that aspect but oh well. At one of the scenes I accidentally set the alarm off because I was trying to see the facial expression of one of the figurines and must have stuck my head into the exhibit too far haha oops!
We finished (it wasn't as long as expected) and then went up a set of stairs to a church we hadn't paid entry for - so just stuck our heads in. It was nothing special but still nice - like all before it. I doubt there will be many "ugly" churches on our travels.
We've come back home (I enjoyed looking at the street art on the way), eaten some Oreos and will go out for dinner soon. We've decided we will always have dinner out but try and eat the other 2 meals at home or take pre-made sandwiches with us. Will is excited, we bought lutenitza** for his sandwich. It's a tomato, eggplant, capsicum spread. I'm very encouraging as it's the only form of vegetable I can get into him! Haha
At about 5pm Will says to me "you've had something on your neck all day and it's been annoying me" he removed it and it turns out it was a booger. He had let me walk around all day with a booger on my body. Cheers Willy 😑
I just hope it was mine not his... don't know how it would have got there hahaha
We found a place for dinner and it was amazing. The food not so much BUT THERE WAS A CAT SITTING NEXT ME 😻😻😻
He was so cranky it was amazing. He was sleeping on a chair and people came to sit at the table he wouldn't move so they had to sit around him hahaha.
There was also a dog inside that came over for pats. We wasn't starving - I gave him a potato and he just looked at it and nuzzled in asking for more pats ❤️beat resturant ever.
The potato salad was a shocker though. It was cooked potato - no sauce.. not good lol.
But I don't care, anything animal friendly gets bonus points!
We are back home now and I've been doing my journal book by sticking in bus tickets.
Will is now playing nostalgic music and we are going to watch Aladdin shortly :)
We are going to the fortress tomorrow - hopefully the rain stops but first we have a Skype date with mum and dad :) it's been 2 weeks so I'm keen to talk with them 🙃Les mer

I slept so good ☺️
We got up and had some cereal on the balcony when mum and dad called through. We chatted for half an hour. I try to think of things to tell them that aren't in this journal but it's hard.
After we hung up we got ready to go to Tsarevets fortress on Tsarevets hill.
It was only 6 Lev each which was great. We thought that this was a big enough attraction to warrant the selfie stick so Will quickly walked back home to get it while I tried to navigate my way through the sea of school children.
We didn't get an entrance ticket only a crappy receipt which I'm disappointed about so I plan to buy a postcard to stick into my paper journal so I can have a token from the fortress.
We met up and walked through up the bridge to the main entrance. You could so easily imagine people riding there horses up into the fortress. We took a lot of pictures!
We walked around the edge where there are lots of ruins but still clear outlines of buildings you could imagine as houses or little shops/blacksmiths etc.
Unfortunately there were no English signs and even the Bulgarian signs were scarce.
We went up a watch tower which had a set up you could pretend to chop a persons head of with - so we did. I think Will enjoyed it a little too much.
We went to the very edge and from what I gather it was an execution site. Not sure if they meant this is where the beheadings took place or if this was the wall they threw people off because it was very high and would have been just as effective lol.
Will does not take safety signs as seriously as me. He wanted to climb down and have a look and I said no because there are signs specifically saying not to do so lol. They have left it as authentic as possible meaning very real DANGER lol. No, I do not want to climb over walls that are hundreds of years old, falling apart and on top of a very big drop!
His main motive was to try and find a medieval sword... 😏
Goose.
We then went walking and then realized we had definitely taken the wrong path. We were just walking in the bush haha. We turned back, and ended up in "the palace ensemble". It was under construction which of course Will ignored so we entered some building. Will thinks it's the reconstruction where the King and Queen lived ( original was destroyed by Turks in the 1200's) but I think it is too small especially for royalty. We walked up the hill to the church - it's interior artwork was so odd! I've never seen designs like it - well, in a church.
There was a big original slab.
The school groups are really annoying but I spoke that's how you work out if you are visiting a worthy attraction or not... their presence is a good sign lol.
We say the outer battle tower then went for lunch.
The strawberry lemonade was superb 🤤🤤🤤
We went and got Oreos and juice from a convenience store and on the way home Will was being impatient and tried to overtake a tour group and ended up falling down the hill. Hahahah he went so red and was so embarrassed he got angry at them. "Stupid asians" it was literally all his fault though because he wasn't looking where we was going. He fell into one of them. Silly William. He crushed some of the Oreos and his knee bled a little bit but he gets little sympathy from me because I received none when I fell over at the acropolis.
Back at the apartment we finished watching Aladdin and watched the Truman show. I did it for English in year 11 or 12 but never actually saw the whole thing.
Can anyone sayyy A+? Hahahah
Will wanted to go on a pub crawl but we couldn't find any so we just went for a walk to a place we ate at the other day and had nargile and drinks. The nargile was crap - not enough flavor. The waiter was fantastic though - he gave me a free lemonade and opened up the terrace area just for us so we tipped him - first person in ages.
Naturally because Will wanted me to look presentable when we went out he asked me to not wear my hiking boots - it poured rain.
My hiking boots are waterproof but noooo I had to wear my other shoes 🤦🏼♀️#poohead.
We were lucky though because here drainage isn't the best and cars were spraying water everywhere where but we avoided it :)
Also note today we saw the Asen Dynasty monument. 👍🏼Les mer

So last night Will said to turn off my alarm and just let us sleep. That ended well, we got up at 1.
JESS FOUND MUNSTER - sooooo relieved! She did not need anything else happening. Genuinely so happy. He was in a neighbours yard cowering behind a shed.
We got up and had breakfast/lunch on the balcony.
The floor is filthy and feels so gross under my feets. I think it's part Oreo crumbs but also crap from our shoes.
We had a productive morning - it was raining heavily so we decided to book accommodation. We decided to smash it out so we have now booked for Sofia, Brussels, Ghent and Bruges. Feeling stress free because that means Belgium is completely booked!
We are staying in Hostel Mostel in Sofia which is only $10 a night and has been recommended by a few different people.
Then in Brussels and we are arriving late so we are going to stay in a BNB and our host is willing to stay up for us so that's great!
The next 2 spots are also hostels.
YAYAYAY.
So I can't really remember what we did next. I know i went up to the street store to buy juice, coke and more Oreos for Will. I then watched the Trollz movie and half of magic mike before I told Will I was hungry. I don't know what he did for those 3 hours.
We looked up trip advisor and went to the #1 ranked restaurant on there - It was called Shtastliveca.
It was delicious! Because we didn't leave the house all day, we splurged.
We got a bottle of Pinot wine. Will got the lasagne and o for the roast lamb with potatoes and other fancy words.
Yummo! Our waiter was very good - he guessed we were Canadian or American though 😒
He recommended a dessert for us which we went with. It was like a cookie, dough, honey walnut combo. He said it was a cake but it looked like ice cream scoops.
The wine went straight to my head.
For a splurge night it still only cost us 77 Lev!
On the walk home we went to the tequila bar. It served a yogurt cocktail which sounded so awful I had to try.
To be honest it was actually alright. Just tasted like strawberry yogurt drink with bit of a kick.
Will had. Jack Daniel's and coke and had the same scenarios last time - was given a coke bottle, a glass with the shot and 2 separate glasses with ice. We have preciously inquired why they do that and apparently it's to prove to the customer that they aren't getting ripped off with the alcohol content which I understand but I feel this new method means a lot of unnecessary washing up lol
We have now walked home - which I made a complete dick of myself on the way. I started marching down the hill like I was on stage/ a solider for unknown reasons and speaking in time to the march - Will started laughing and wouldn't tell me why - when we arrived at our door he told me to look up and to the left..... about 5-10 people standing onto of the building watching us and having a giggle. Yep, didn't see them. 😧hahah oops. How embarrassing.
We are now home - Will watching American gangster while I wrote this and will crash soon.Les mer

Missed the tour I planned to do. Too tired and couldn't be bothered. The town is so small I feel like I've seen the main points and Will didn't want to come anyway so my motivation went way down.
Got up at 12 and had tzatziki because Will ate all the cereal 😒
And we literally haven't done a thing since. I think we are both quite bored of Bulgaria. Though truly beautiful we both are ready to move on.
We spent about an hour arguing about whether I could buy another magnet or not. I want to buy the same magnet I already have - the rose, except in Pink because we picked pink roses and not red. He says I cant because I already bought one. I would accept this argument if buying another magnet cost more that 70c and if I had bought lots of souvenirs- but I haven't I have only bought 1 magnet per country which is amazing considering my normal souvenir buying rates.
He also won't let me buy a postcard for my grandma because I already bought a post card for my book.... he can shove it, I'm going to buy one for her.
He ended up getting sick of my whining and I went up the the shops. On the way it started torrential raining so i ducked into a shop - I amused myself in there for 15 mins waiting for it to stop - I found an even better, cheaper magnet and bought it instead. It had PINK roses and the fortress + Alexander Nevsky Cathedral- a much fuller picture of our Bulgarian experience.
I BROKE THE BANK AND SPEND 1 LEV..... 😱
We are now going to have a nap and pack later. I'm having a tea because I felt dizzy when walking and should up my water intake.
We are hoping our Bnb host offers to drive us to the station tomorrow - he originally offered to pick us up from it so hopefully he reverses the gesture, lol.
Ok so I had a nap while Will watched car videos.
Noteworthy experience:
I had a shower earlier and brushed my teeth, spat the toothpaste out but as I was sitting in the shower some of it caught my knee.. my knee literally felt minty fresh for about an hour afterwards. Will scoffed me off and said I have autism again but it was literally so bizarre i had to tell him.
Didn't know a knee could feel minty fresh.
Will wanted a kebab for dinner so we went walking to the cheapo place he got a burger from the other day.
It was average. This is the 2nd place who has put chips in the kebab. Not sure how I feel about it - In theory it's fantastic but it hasn't been executed perfectly yet.
Will was still hungry so we agreed if he bought another burger I could get a gelato 🤗😃
We went to another show called Aladins - the menu looks hectic and super cheap - 70c for a slice of pizza the size of my head.
He only ate half because he psyched himself out because the chicken was a little too pink for his liking.
I got my snickers gelato on the way home - the place charges off weight and not scoops.
When home I packed my bags and cleaned up a lot of rubbish. Will did nothing. He says he is going to do it in the morning. -.-
I charged the battery charge, kindle and go pro. I need to buy a new phone cord - it's not working with anything/ takes 10 attempts then you can't move it an inch without it disconnecting.
Fireworks went off next door. They love them here. While I charged my phone off the computer I looked up things to do in Brussels AND made the horrifying realisation that we have booked our accommodation in Brussels from the wrong airport. We are flying into the crappier airport which is 60km away from our Bnb. We fly in at 10:50pm - it's between 90€ - 120€ during regular hours...
Farrrkkkk.
I've been messaging the chick all night and had a semi breakdown so Will is going to take over responsibility tomorrow and decide what we are going to do.
There is apparently a shuttle bus that will take us half way but that means the cleaning lady can't stay up for us so we will need to go to a completely separate home to pick up keys......
gah!
Only positive is at least i realized this huge problem before we arrived to the wrong airport. Lol.
And we have 4 days to make a plan.
Our current host has agreed to drive us to the bus station tomorrow woohoo.
I feel a little sick. Not sure if anxiety or because I ate too much hahah.
I messaged Bronwyn about changing our return flight too.
The fact I am the organized one is scary.Les mer

Will woke up earlier than I did because he had to pack then complained he wanted to pack the toiletries so I had to get up too.
We found a broom outside/downstairs and cleaned the floor a little bit, emptied the fridge then took 2 big bags of rubbish up the street to the big bins and bought banitzas and multivitamin juice.
I think I drank the juice to fast because I had a minor tummy ache so I had a quick lie down before our host (Val) cane to get the keys. He arrived while I was pooping so that was awkward.
We left at 11:30 - HE DROVE US WOOT!
He asked us if we had visited some village, we said no so he did a little detour past there too which was lovely of him. A small part of me wished me just went straight to the bus station - his B.O was outrageous and he obviously hadn't brushed his teeth in 7 years. I felt sick.
The main point of his mini tour was to show us a building "for 30 years this was our dictators house, well, one of them" it was so bland looking - amazing views so it's been converted into a hotel.
Don't know Bulgarian history so not sure which dictator - that is if they have had more than one.
The village was cute but I think it would have been more appreciated by us if we hadn't come from the Rose fields. It was just very similar.
He then drove us past the fortress for us to have one last breathtaking glance before we arrived at the bus station.
Best host ever - he got out before we did, enquirered about buses to Sofia and got us on a bus leaving in 2 minutes. We hurried over, payed the driver 40 Lev directly and hopped on - we are in the car sick seats up front. We said many thanks to Val. We really appreciated his help!!
The bus was a lot more expensive that previous ones but we are getting what we paid for. It's a 3 hour journey - we have wifi, aircon, a movie is playing up front and the bus is big. (Will still doesn't fit though)
Thus far I have seen 2 dead hedgehogs. Will is skeptical but I'm pretty confident. If not they were both extremely spikey rocks. I also saw another supposed "badger". I would really like to walk past and have a closer look. This is the 2nd one I've seen in a vehicle. They haven't been black and white which it should be so I'm trying to figure out why is sun-streaked orange and white. Google hadn't helped me. Every thing that it could be doesn't live in Europe. European badgers are black 🤔🤔🤔
It's a mystery.
It's kinda fun sitting up front cause you can here all the bugs splattering into the front window. So many juice spots.
We have both napped. We were going fast on highways but are now stuck behind people on windy mountains.
I semi retract my previous statement - they might be badgers I re googled and the under bellies are lighter. Still hesitant to lock it in as a badger though.
We arrived back at Sofia station and I we both needed to wee - I checked and can't believe I didn't document my last adventurer here that came flooding back.
Last time we were here I went into the wrong toilet and saw a mans Willy -.- I was so embarrassed. He was too I'd imagine.
I wanted to get a taxi to the hostel which would cost $2 but Will was being a cranky butt so we walked the 3km -.- it was so hot. I don't mind carrying my big bag, it's the little one that drives me bonkers.
We went and ate at McDonald's because we were starving then walked up the street to our hostel. It's really nice - especially for 10€ each a night.
It's big, lively and full of people. The carpark at the front had like 10 cats in it - amazingggg 😻😻😻
We checked in, played a game of pool ( I won cause Will sank the black) we then sat down and just people watched. Lots of Aussies here.
We went up the street to get Will a beer and me and Ice cream ( that was the compromise if he wanted a beer) then came back to the common rooms.
Our room is up the street a little bit. It's not bunk beds Yay! It's just 5 beds In this apartment block type thing.
The security is much better. We have 4 different keys and a swipe card - but only one set which is inconvenient.
The hostel provides crappy but FREE dinner and a glass of beer. Will drank mine for me but said it was crap - probably the cheapest available.
We had 3 options for food - spag bowl, lentils and rice or some potato dish. We both went with pasta.
We then went to the sheesha bar. So bad for us but oars of the culture hahah. I had Turkish tea 🙃
I'm now back at the hostel. Will is going on a pub crawl - this is when not having a second set of keys is annoying. I can't get into our locker - but luckily i forsaw this issue and got my kindle out :)
I swear I'm going to kill him if he spends all our money. He wanted a 50€ budget for the night.
William, you can't have a bitch about me buying a frigging $1 magnet when you go drinking everyday!
If he spends the 100Lev I'll be so cross.
We will see. He has been banned from shouting people drinks because he did that in Macedonia and people didn't even drink them 😠 we don't have enough money to be nice!!! Lol
I have been tip toeing around our room all day because i thought there was a person sleeping. A Brazilian guy has just walked in and lifted the covers and it's a damn bag.
I even examined the lump. It was totally a person, I swear it snored. I'm honestly blown away by this discovery.
It's now just me, the Brazilian guy and a S. Korean chick relaxing in our room. I keep having the urge to swallow and sniff when I don't need to. It's sooo quite. Every little booger being sucked back in can be heard 🙄
Th chick next to me snores so badly I've never heard anything like it. She kept me up until 3 when she rolled over and shut up.
In other news I finally finished my book - love the series ( black mage series?) and Will for home at 4 with our dorm mate - Jean.Les mer

Korea next to me - who kept everyone up ALL night didn't hide her annoyance well that the rooms weren't made up because 3 of us slept in.
Tough titties - all they do is make the bed anyway, if that.. they don't change the sheets, so surely a self sufficient adult can make there own bed if it bothers them that much. She is really annoying. Jean (Wills new American friend) agrees. His heritage is South Korean too but he hates them and thinks they are all too materialistic lol.
We went to the shopping center this morning to buy me a new phone cord because my phone won't charge. it was only 7 euro - cheering! We also bought me a Mickey Mouse shirt and socks from H&M because while the weather is so shitty things don't dry and I don't have enough shirts. 1 extra will help! Also 2 pairs of my socks now have holes in them so needed more.
We had breakfast in the food court and just walked around a bit. It was the main Sofia mall and the best one we have seen on our travels so far.
We went back for the hostel to chill out. We have made the decision to just pay the ridiculous taxi fair in Belgium because id rather just bite the bullet than be lost at midnight in a brand new city. - I messaged our host to let her know.
I also googled things to do in Brussels and Ghent - pretty excited
We don't know what to do now that we are back In Sofia so I did some googling and in my search I have discovered the proper names of things we have already done so I'd like to talk this opportunity to note that we have seen:
- The lovers bridge
- Serdika - Sredets fortress
- National theatre "Ivan Vazor"
✔️✔️
The snorer, I think was surprised and annoyed to find us in the room. I think she isn't very social and doesn't want company. She stayed a little bit but then left again.
I was trying to find a new book to read or rather picking which one out of 30 options :D
I like that kindle gives you samples of books so you dont waste your money! Great system!!
Will was hungry so we went to dinner and the Asian place we really liked last time.
I took more photos of things I have already seen so I can add them to this journal because I'm not sure if everything made the cut when I switched to this new system with the stupid 6 photos a day limit.
Dinner was fantastic except I was ripped off BIG TIME with my drink. It was 90% crushed ice. I had 3 sips and it was finished. Was so disappointed because I loved it last time!
Roland Garros was playing behind me. Stupid Murray. I told Will about the strawberries and cream picture which he didn't find funny but I always will.
On the walk over we saw old mate who walks like he has huge muscles like Popeye but is half the size of me. He brings me great joy.
We walked home and Will wanted me to lead the way - I got us lost :)
We walked up Vitosha boulevard again got a scoop of icecream for 1€ and are now back in the room.
So I bought a book off kindle - Lusam - the dragon mags wars and I finished it in a few hours #smashedit.
It wasn't overly exciting but has done a fantastic job at setting everything up for the next 3 books. I'm excited to read them.
Snorey snorison is snoring at the moment but no where near as bad as yesterday. She also cracks a lot.
The cracks are so loud i have only ever heard Kim achieve such a sound. -
Angharad never forget that time in our year 111/12 ancient history exam when cracked her back so outrageously everyone - including Mr Simac stopped what they were doing to talk about it.

So we had a hysterical night. Korea rolled over and started to properly snore. Will and I could not stop laughing. The lady next to Will woke up and started "aye aye aying " and swearing in French which really put my giggles over the edge.
A person in the Neighbouring room even got up - we could just see them standing behind the glass wall in what was probably a state of shock 😂😂😂😂😂
Will got to sleep before I did. Shocking sleep. She is actually so ridiculous. She got up super early and started packing her bag by jumping on her suitcase and zipping up everythingggg
Not cool.
We went and got kebabs for breakfast and ate them in a local park - they have really good kids equipment all over the country.
We then went to a local sports pub in the hope of watching origin. They didn't have the channel so we went back to the hostel and Wills friend live streamed in on Facebook for him.
I really wanted to watch but I fell asleep :(
We won though! :D
We went to 'happy sushi' which was recommended to because it was suppose to have not fish sushi and unusual combos but that turned out to be a big fat lie.
We needed up getting chicken and ribs.
Afterwards we went to a different bowling alley - it was nowhere near as good but it did the trick.
I got my highest score ever on the first game with a whopping 119 😬 I got 2 strikes in a row! :D
We tied the second game on 89 then I won the last one.
The lane was a bit dodgy. The balls got jammed once and needed fixing then a few of our shots didn't register - though I'd like to point out that 119 was earned fair and square 💪🏻💪🏻
I got a gelato on the way home #addicted now we are back in our room. Korea is here 😩
In going to read my book and Will will watch a movie.
New girl arrived in the room - she is from Taiwan. seems nice. She puts on a lot of face cream though.
Some idiot thought it would be fine to blow dry there hair at 11pm and another one at 1am. Like what the hell? No consideration. Snorey snoreyson kept us up all night again.
Also side note - yesterday when we were walking home some random girl intentionally smacked my hand very hard. It was so bizarre. I told Will and he told me to check my pockets to make sure I still had everything which I did.
lol don't know why she slapped me? Odd.Les mer

Woke up late. The chick is killing me but she has now left for Serbia woo!
We went to Dunken Donuts first and had one donut each to hold us over until we found somewhere for lunch.
After lunch we went to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral for one final look. I honestly love it.
We then went for a walk around the city and went to the St. George church which we have seen before but haven't actually gone inside - it's the oldest one in Sofia (from 4th century and has original roof) - it was nothing special. It was free entry which was great but had a sign at the front that made me fume. It said it was free entry but if you buy from the shop inside God would bless you. What a load of crap. You shouldn't use God for your own gain. It's not a bloody magic trick. If all it took for God to 'bless' you was for someone to buy a postcard then there would be a lot less evil in this world. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that and I thought that sign was disgusting.
We then went home again because I had a small head ache - we lay around until dinner time and went to the common room for the free food. It was the same options as last time so I just got pasta with no sauce.
(I finished the 2nd book in that time - loving the new series!)
We then went for a walk through the city because it's our last night. We had some gelato and Will had a kebab and slice of pizza so essentially 4 dinners haha.
I had a bite of his 'Ali Baba' kebab and it was gooood.
We sat by the markets as they were closing - there was such a fat dog. Don't know if it was a stray or not but it obvious doesn't struggle hah.
We found a church we hadn't seen before - don't think it has any significance but beautiful none the less.
We are now back at the dorm.
Genuinely so excited to leave Bulgaria and go to Belgium tomorrow. Our flight is at night though so we have a long wait ahead of us. We still have jobs to do like pack and print off our boarding passes though.Les mer

Woke up at 9:30 because we had to check out by 11 and we still needed to pack.
It was quite the challenge - we have been storing our sleeping bags on the outside of our bags but for the flight needed to squish them into our big bags. 😓a few things didn't make the cut and got chucked out. I squeezed my cat food in though 😋
We checked out and gave our bags to reception to hold onto for the day.
We walked down Vitosha boulevard and stopped at a cafe for a cappuccino and I got an underwhelming tea. They gave me just water and a teabag which would have been fine if the water had been hotter but the tea bag didn't really work out. We were going to eat but this place was too expensive so we went looking for some banitzas:)
We walked up some side streets to a new area and found a bakery - unfortunately they didn't sell them so we left - we walked all of 10 meters up the street when a city wide siren went off - not a normal siren, one we though could potentially be for an earthquake. Everyone around us stopped moving and stood where they were so we copied not having a clue what was happening.
It sounded what bomb raid sirens sound like on tv.
We had the giggles and had a quick debate if we should go stand in the middle of the street - we walked back down to the bakery and saw that everyone was dead quite, the workers had stopped working and the people seated were all now standing.
After a few minutes the siren stopped and everyone went about there business. We asked a local what the hell that was and they said it was in remembrance for the people that have died in the last few wars.
After learning that, it was lovely to see that every person around us, even those by themselves had stopped and shown respect.
Slightly disappointed it wasn't an earthquake - I want to feel one - obviously only a baby one where no one gets hurt and there is no damage, just a little tremor.
Alas, not today.
It was so friggen loud though.
We found another bakery that sold the banitza's at 3 times the price but they looked good so we bought them - but they were truly terrible and went in the bin.
We sat in the park near the culture center. I had a snooze while Will sent an email to vodaphone and grandad.
Afterwards we went to subway - instead of meatball subs they do falafel 😂
They don't do Italian herbs and cheese bread, have marinara or do salt and pepper?? I chose not to eat and played Pokémon go while Will ate what, judging by his facials, was a sandwich that wasn't too crash hot.
We've walked back to the hostel and are in the common room. We will leave for the airport around 5:30.
I read a few chapters and Will watched a movie.
We asked the hostel to call us a taxi - jumped in and went off to the airport without any troubles - woo!
Our journey continued to be easy once we arrived with us checking in our bags with no issues.
We both had to remove our shoes to walk through security - we were the only ones asked to do so - maybe be looked suspicious or they could tell by our accent we were foreign haha either way it was awkward cause I could smell my feet.
I've been wearing dirty socks all day in an enclosed boot.... it was not good.
We ate at the rooftop bar - which we had a good laugh about because all it had was literal view of a industrial roof hahaha not very classy.
I bought some soap with our left over coins because we can't exchange them - we then walked to our terminal and waited.
A humungous storm hit and one flight was delayed because of the weather conditions - this didn't improve my sense of security. Ever since our faithful Dragon Air flight from Japan I've had a lot more fear toward flying. Hopefully everything goes well and we make it 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
We are of course seated directly in front of a screaming child.
There is another child on board that looks like a bug - she would be around 22 months old and must be blind as a bat for them to have picked up on her vision so quickly and because her glasses are just so so magnified. She was so cute and kept touching my hand on the bus from the terminal. I read on the plane. Thankfully the weather died down. I was only stressed for a minor portion of the flight.
We touched down in Charleroi airport and my oh my what an adventure we had!
Firstly, never ever has it before been difficult to find taxis at an airport or location that screams TOURISTS.
And yet, we could not find the taxi rank.
It took us over 15 minutes to find us.
Then scam after scam was thrown at us.
We paired up with another English couple going to Brussels to hopefully half the price but every taxi driver wanted 100€ per person and not overall which we all refused to pay.
The taxi rank was empty, it was midnight, raining and 7 of us all wanting to go to Brussels remained.
Eventually 3 went to the shuttle bus and us and the other couple ( one was a Romanian Geologist who works at the Arizona university - cool job) agreed to a 14p€ set price trip.
He then decided half way that because we weren't going to the same address as the other couple we had to pay 20€ more. We agreed because at this point our hands were tied - our Bnb person was waiting for us and we were already running an hour late, I was sick of arguing and the taxi had a gps which guaranteed going to the right house.
He sped like a lunatic the whole way. It didn't help my anxiety when we drove past another car completely flipped on the middle of the road..
The geologist dude kept making comments about being surprised at how uncivilized it all was which was a direct jab at the driver which I smiled to myself about.
We ended up only paying 15€ extra not 20 so that was a small win.
85€ for 65km was better than we expected. So we were actually very pleased with the end result.
Unfortunately the saga was not over.
We were definitely at the right house - now 1:10am and the doorbell did not appear to be working. We rang and rang and rang but nobody answered. I was so tired at this point I wasn't even stressed but found it amusing if anything.
We didn't actually stand outside all that long - only long enough for the predicament to sink in and us discuss a plan B when a car came zooming round the corner - it was our hosts friend to let us in - WOOHOOO! THIRLLED.
She took us up to the 4th floor - the front door is the elevator door so that was kind of strange. The apartment is awesome! We cashed pretty quickly once upstairs in our attic room.
Turns out our host has left us food for breakfast so I'm pretty happy about that :)
The roof is low so Will will have to watch his head.Les mer

Set the alarm for 9 because we wanted to be out of the house by 10 but were realistic about our sleep requirements after such a long day yesterday.
I ate the provided breakfast, Will was a pain in the bum and did not.
We had so many options - she has provided yogurt, bananas, bread, jam, cheese spread, juice, ham and cheese.
I had the most delicious and obviously homemade blueberry jam on bread 😋
We left at 9:50 and began our 3.5km walk to the city center. Will got a croissant near to home.
On our way I saw an African man lying down, passed out on a bench with his belly hanging out. I just glanced at his belly and to my horror the head of his penis was popping out the top of his pants hahahaha
Too early for that shit.
It's a long way but we could do with the exercise haha.
I like the buildings here.
We walked past a lot of fresh fruit stores and one giant, extremely random clam on a stick - it didn't appear to relate to anything around it..
They LOVE comics here and have murals all around the the city of things such as Tin tin.
Our tour started in Grand Place - it was spectacular- its a 4 sided area of old gothic style buildings.
Our tour guide was Simon and he was fantastically engaging.
He told us about each separate building in the square before we walked past some Karl Marx building ( I missed the story because of noise levels but he is the founder of communism)
Next up was Mannekin Pis which is Brussels main point of interest. The mannequin has 937 different costumes. There are many replicas of the fountain all around the world but this is the original. It was smaller than I expected it to be honest but still awesome to see. Apparently the statue has been stolen many times in the past but the original is in the museum we planned on visiting after the tour.
Before we went to visit our guide yelled " now let's go see a little boy peeing! " it's one of the only place I can think of where that sentence is acceptable and doesn't stir suspicions of pedaphilic intentions hahaha
We next came across one specific cartoon mural which marks the beginning of the LBGTG community. Belgium was, I think, the 2nd country to legalize gay marriage. The mural has been designed as such that it could be 2 men, 2 ladies or 1 man and 1 woman.
Along our walk Simon pointed our shops he recommended for Beer, chocolate and chips etc.
We saw the stock exchange building which was supper impressive but is now empty - he said there were talks of making it the palace of beer - he sounded deadly serious but not sure if he was joking or not. We saw the Opera house - ours is 1000 times better, walked through a glass gallery - there's was the first and then has a 20 minute break.
Our guide is so very insistent that we shouldn't J- walk because it's a 60€ fine. Ouch. Our group was 34 people big and so it often took 2 turns for everyone to Cross lights but he always waited.
They must police is pretty well because he really stressed the point not to do it.
We walked on and found a St James walk shell on the floor - one of few I had already noticed. They act/acted as a sort of GSP for pilgrims - they point towards the nearest sanctuary which in this case was the "our lady of assistance" church which we also saw mid tour. It's also related to the St James walk in Spain.
We saw the Cathedral of St Michel and St Gudula. It reminded me of pictures I have seen of Notre Dame - very large and of gothic style.
There was a wedding inside and like 1000 Africans came spilling out of the church, some in the most ridiculous outfits.
The refugee situation is blatantly obvious here. There is a very very large African and middle eastern population. The Muslim community also are easy to spot because a lot, including the men have been in traditional dress. We went to the Royal Park or as they call it "park" because it's the only one 😂😂😂
It's close to where the metro bombs went off. He made a big speech thanking us all for coming and ignoring others opinion on Brussels and for giving it a chance. Apparently tourism has declined rapidly. We too were told by many many people not to bother with Brussels, not because of danger but because it's an ugly city - they all need to go to the optometrist. It is awesome. We are liking it very much and will go away and spread the word. You could tell Simon was really bummed out by Brussels new reputation.
We saw the Kings place. - super impressive but what surprised me was the lack of fence and/or obvious guards. Apparently it's only his smaller residence but still, I expected more security.
He sat us out the front and told us of the history Brussels had with the Congo and how at one point Belgium was the 4th richest country in the world - unfortunately this was because of slaves and rubber and in essence it was all blood money. He said he finds great shame in his country regarding this because in Germany there are memorials for the terrible crimes of the 2nd world war - as there should be.. but he said that he didn't even learn about the mutilation/slaughter of the millions of Africans until he researched it himself and that there isn't a single memorial in all of Brussels.
We walked on through a section full of museums until we came to our final stop in front of a pretty garden.
We gave a 10€ tip - he deserved more but I'll give him a 5/5 star on trip advisor which will hopefully help generate him more work.
We walked back toward Grand Place toward the museum and came across an Australian made ice cream shop... we didn't realize we made ice cream... Will asked what made it Australian and without batting an eyelid the man answered "Kangaroo milk"
We of course had to try it for it's ridiculousness. We went with an Aussie flavor and got Mango. It wasn't very nice lol.
We went inside the main building - which isn't symmetrical - which apparently the designer killed himself over but jumping off the top..
The outside was better than inside - just stone walls really.
We went in the museum - it cost 8€ each - more than we were expecting. I thought I read somewhere that it was only 4€
To my great disappointment there was no English signage..
So we just wanders looking at everything not really knowing what it was. On our entry tickets is a picture of asparagus. We found the item in amongst some other China looking food. Don't know it's significance or why it got such an honor of being on the ticket. lol, I feel there was worthier things inside.
Some of the paintings were cool especially one of the city on fire - I'd like to learn more about it but it didn't really offer me the chance. There TripAdvisor review isn't going to be the best..
Upstairs it did have the original mannekin pis which made me feel a little better about the entry fee.
The building itself was lovely and had stain glass windows with what looked like family crests - we each picked which one we would like to have as our own. I picked a blue back with a yellow lion thing. He picked something similar only yellow. I wouldn't want the fish crest.
We started the long walk home.
I don't remember the journey there being downhill but the journey home was definitely uphill -.-
We walked past this lady singing and a bunch of strangers doing a dance they all obviously knew. Kind of like us and nut bush at a wedding haha. We stayed and watched it for a while.
We saw a dead falcon on the way which was different.
We managed to find 95% of the journey home without a map 🎉
I did a load of washing and then hung them up then we both crashed until 9pm ( fell asleep at 5)
I went down and had toast for dinner - Will went out and got a kebab.
I have a mozzie bite on my foot and it's realllllly annoying me.
I also have a headache again :( so I'm gonna smash some panadol and hit the hay 👋🏻
Jokes, we facetimed Jess first and I smashed my head on the ceiling and feel down the stairs ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼Les mer

So I had a very weird morning. I had a dream that I was doing the things I was meant to be doing i.e. Getting out of bed and having a shower onIy I wasn't, I was sleeping..
Bizarre.
It took me ages to realize I hadn't actually gotten out of bed.
Our washing had dried so I stuffed it all back into the washing machine just so it looked a little neater just in case the cleaning lady came through - didn't want our crap spread all over the house.
And then so began our 7.2km walk to The mini Europe theme park.
About a kilometer in we stopped for kebabs - they put corn in it which changes the flavor completely. It's very powerful for something so small.
They too put chips in the kebab like every other European city so far.
The walk was long and tiring - as we walked you could see the change in the social and economic standings. I wouldn't say we entered the slums but it was definitely a lower class. We came across a pretty church and then finally saw the top ball of the Atomium statue which helped lead us in the right direction.
We walked through a nice park that had a purple leaved tree and then what seemed like 3 hours later, made it to the Atomium and mini Euro. We got some photos of the Atomium- supposedly it's the symbol of Brussels and is very near where the Heysel stadium stood (the stadium that collapsed in 1985 killing 39 people and injuring 600) we chose not to go to the top because of the price then we walked over to mini Europe.
The line took ages but we finally got there - Will is so impatient. We got given these AWSOME booklets upon entry which outlines what countries are in the E.U, provided a lot of basic facts about them such as population and language etc but then also gives novelty facts such as Belgium consumes more fries than anyone else.
It then had the pictures of all the displays with information about each structure underneath which was helpful.
To my great disappointment and yet not to my surprise, Will got bored after the 2nd or 3rd structure. So unfortunately I felt very pressured to move quickly and didn't have the opportunity to read about each place there - I'll have to do it at home.
I feel like I missed out to be honest but oh well - can't win them all. I told him I was going to be the cooler parent and take our kids to theme parks. He has agreed that it will be my duty not his.
If my kids don't like roller coasters I'll be devastated haha.
Maybe I'll bring my own kids back to mini Europe one day :)
I honestly loved the park and thought it was fantastic to see the 94 odd most significant buildings/monuments in Europe all in the one place.
It also had buttons to engage children such as moving the boats in the harbor or ringing a bell in a church.
When you pressed the Mount Vesuvius button the floor shook and smoke came out which I though was great :)
A few of the places we saw I hadn't heard of but they will be added to the itinerary for sure.
Indian tourists are so annoying. They are so slow and I nearly fell over at the lack of respect for where they were. One lady went and sat on a structure for a photo. She want the skinniest either.. i wasn't feeling too confident.
Luckily the building was fine.
But honestly, they were like the Chinese and got a photo with every damn structure which held everyone else up 😾
One thing that really bothered Will was that there was a replica of Flanders field and Australia was not mentioned. At first I thought maybe they were only mentioning EU countries but Canada got a memorial.. ?
Afterwards our legs were so saw so we attempted to use the trains. We got on at Heysel station.
We couldn't figure out the difference between the train and tram lines on the big map so we decided to just get a train to central Grand Place.
We decided, while in Belgium, we needed to visit the delirium beer cafe which in 2004 (not sure if still does but locals give the impression it might..) held the record for the most beers available. I am told it has over 3000 options.
Now, I hate beer. With all my heart I hate it. I wish I didn't but i just do.
I thought to myself if I was ever going to find a beer I liked, this would be the place.
We went inside - it had a great vibe. It was pretty crowded but we found a nice little spot sitting at a barrel downstairs that was just perfect. The music and lighting was just right 👌🏻
I went to the bar and said I hate beer so what do you recommend - I ended up with some sour raspberry thing.
I felt like such an adult. On the 4.6.17 I bought my first beer 😎😎😎😎
Will loved his.
Mine, as expected, was disgusting BUT I persevered through the pain and not only bought my first beer - but finish it! Woohooo!!
Will had 5 in the time I managed to down my one - I had a sip of all of his too.
All rubbish.
We then went to Mary's.
We learnt about Mary's on our tour. It's a Belgium chocolate shop that opened in 1919. She was the first and only chocolate maker at that time.
Because she was a woman it became a novelty to buy from her which helped keep her in business (not only that but the product was great) and we were recommended because the recipes haven't changed, they are all still handmade and unique because the shop stayed small and doesn't mass produce.
We walked down the line of chocolate and picked out lots of yummy pralines. It cost 16€ for hardly anything but hey, today's all about trying the local cuisine - speaking of which we had chips afterwards :)
Belgium is also known for there mussels which I haven't worked up the courage to try yet..
NOBODY DOES GRAVY WITH CHIPS AND ITS KILLING ME.
Mayonnaise is for sandwiches not chips 😫😫😫
We walked home and tried to find a Chinese place but must have missed it.
We ended up with Pizza.
I feel very comfortable around French. I know a lot more than Will so I feel smart.
I just feel happy knowing I already know the very basic words. I've felt so rude the last few countries not being able to even say thank you because I can't read the Cyrillic to sound it out.
However I'm best at Bulgarian
Our vocabulary stand at:
Sdrusty = Hello
Da = Yes
Nacedraven = cheers
Ciao ciao = bye
Mercy = thanks
That was all obviously not the correct spelling.
We also were introduced to Banitzas and Lutenitza :D
We are now home and it's magical- I went to pack before but then the best thing happened... WE HAVE ANOTHER DAY HERE!
I'll need to sort out a day plan :)
The pizza we had was delicious.
We are going to watch the South Park movie shortly :)
Also, I think I forgot to mention yesterday..
we had to play a game of Simon says on our tour and Will didn't know how to play.
WHO THE HELL DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY SIMON SAYS?!? I was blown away.
I have a very bad memory so I can't remember if I've already noted this but on the off change I haven't -
This city has so many pedestrian crossings it's silly. The whole city is striped - ever single street crossing - both with lights and without has a zebra crossing marked out and then every 20 meters there is another one. I would go bonkers as a driver.
Also, a lot of the city is under construction.Les mer

Woke up and my body was so sore.
I pretended to be a sleep for a while so I didn't have to get up.
We did a quick clean of the apartment which included vacuuming Wills hair off the bathroom floor - he is honestly part bear then we did some research on what we could do today.
There is a interactive EU building called the parliamentarian which I though looked interesting and has a #2 ranking on TripAdvisor behind the Grand Place but Will wasn't too keen - I guess not in a learning mood.
If we end up in the area I might drag him in but for the moment we agreed to walk to a famous chip shop - supposedly the best in Brussels. It's been around since 1948.
It was a 2.5km walk but in a different direction which was good so we got to see new streets.
We eventually got there and Will was his hilarious self and refused point blank to wait in the massive line.
I figured we had walked all this way and it's a novelty place to go so I was more than willing. I told him to find a place to sit and I'd wait in the line.
He has no patience - he will struggle when it comes to doing Mundane things with Jaxon. Hahah can't wait.
We have such different life skills. I am useless at so so so many things but 'being bored' is something I can do with ease. #onlychildskills
I waited for about 45 mins in line.
The girl in front of me had deformed hands and I tried not to look at them but I had nothing else to do so I always seemed to be directed back to them. They looked like crab claws.
Will claims to have seen a really big pigeon. He said something along the lines of it was like a pidgeotto not a pidgey. 😂
We finally got the chips - a local helped me speak french to the worker and we sat in a local bar to eat our chips. Will got 2 Stellas.
We then went walking back in the direction of the city centre through a garden but came across this museum looking building - we asked what it was - it was the House of European history and it was free to enter - so we did.
We had to go through security gates then we got a storage locker then began 1 of 6 levels of displays. It was really good - it basically showed how Europe linked together over time in everything from dog breeds, food, musical instruments, toys, dance styles and of course the usual military and political aspects.
There was a fantastic royal family tree that I spent a while examining. It's so intricate.
It then went onto the world wars. I love old war photos. I think they are so powerful. Luckily Will was tired so I was able to sit down and watch a slideshow without him complaining :)
There was the option of getting interactive tables - in hindsight I'm very disappointed we didn't get one but I didn't want to push Will to being a cranky bum so I went without.
Because I didn't have one I asked a worker what the significance was of a singular gun in a lone glass display was -!He answered saying it is one of the 3 guns they think shot Franz Ferdinand with so I though that was pretty friggen cool.
The Hitler display was good too. It showed some of the propaganda and other nazi things - it had a used cyanide cartridge which was grim.
On the top floor I cast my vote about EU issues even though I'm not a relevant party ✌🏼I found it fun.
The museum was super duper. It's new apparently so we are lucky to have seen it - apparently the EU spent 55 million on it.
The EU is based in Brussels (and 2 other spots) but we did see a lot the relevant EU buildings on our walk.
We then kept walking and came across the parliamentarian and Will said we could go in :D
It too was free but this time we got the interactive device.
I learnt a lot about the Schuman Plan and how it essentially created the EU.
There was also a picture of an 82 year old Italian lady casting her first vote - what a truly special day that would have been for her.
This museum was more about how the EU works which was a bit beyond my comprehension considering I had no knowledge to begin with. I do feel more informed now though. I can't expect myself to learn an entire political system in an hour.
I bought a mug in the museum - it was 8€ which Will thought was ridiculously expensive until I reminded him that's how much he had spend on his 2 beers in the morning - he shut up :)
We walked towards town and walked properly past the Kings Palace - I can't deal, it's beautiful. I got so many photos.
We then went to a statue we saw on our tour that you are meant to run head to toe if you want to return to Brussels with the same partner and feet to head if you want to come back with someone different.
I did head to toe. 🙊🙊 I've decided I'll keep him.
We then went back to mannekin pis because I wanted to see if he had had a costume change - today he was rudey nudey.
We then had a waffle each. They are advertised as 1€ but that's just for the dough. The add ons quickly jacked up the price.
Who wants just a waffle though?
It was impossible to eat cleanly - they gave you a mini fork but nothing to cut it with. I gave up and just chewed it like an animal.
I figured that's what the napkin is for - removing chocolate from my forehead.
I then bought myself a Belgium magnet then we went back to the delirium cafe for Will to have one more beer.
We then did the long, arduous walk home.
My legs are so sore.
I hate the water here. We had a break halfway and it made me feel sick drinking the water. It tastes so chemically altered.
I'm not hungry but Will is so we plan to ask our host for help regarding food deliveries when we get back cause we should be meeting her shortly.
I also finally bought Baba Penka a post card. I hope she likes it :)
I'll send it the same time I send Nana's.
Our host is nice. She made us tea and we talked a little before she went for a run, I rested and Will organised pizza for dinner.
Will at the pizza, I packed now it's bed time.
Other notes:
- Our host works for the EU - focused on the eastern borders so Ukraine, Russia, Belarus etc
- I found Vanilla Coke 🙌🏼
- Zeus and Athens got shipped to WA today. They got rescued! 🙏🏽😄
- I keep banging my head in our room on everything. Will hasn't once - he must be so used to ducking.
- My roots are getting bad.
- Our host was shocked we walked to mini Europe - she said she doesn't know anyone who has done that before haha 💪🏻
- I think we have smashed our Brussels so well.Les mer

We left the house at 11:30 - we weren't sure how we were going to get to the station but we knew we first needed to go and get some money out.
The ATM only gave us 100€ bills and the bank attached to it didn't have cash on premise??? So we couldn't exchange it to smaller amounts.
We went to a convenient store to buy a water to get some change but the man said in the most French accent ever "oh, that in not possible" - I'm only adding this in because Will found it hilarious and has been imitating him all day.
We looked out for a taxi but none came past so we just kept walking - we came to one bus station and it was going to central station so we decided to get on that and change over there to another train to get to Medi - Brussels south station.
The bus stop said must have correct change though so we went to a "resturant" to eat.
We got these big bread roll stuffed with chips, chicken, vegetables and garlic sauce. Was really yummy but neither of us could finish it.
Back to the bus stop - we jumped on a bus - it was really awkward standing there with our big packs on our backs - I think I accidentally bumped into a few people several times when the buses started and stopped.
We got to Central then went inside the train station - we asked the ticked officer how to get to Ghent and she said platform 4 in 4 minutes - we didn't need to transfer over woohoo!
Because we are both under 26 we got a decent discount then rushed down to get the train - no major dilemmas so far - we got on the train with ease.
The journey was about 30 minutes but where we sat wasn't ideal for looking out the window.
We got off at one of the two options our hostel gave us, bought tram tickets, waited 10 minutes then caught that with no issues either.
There was a really old lady who came on the tram - i practically saved her live - the tram started moving and she went to fall backwards but I grabbed her so she didn't and she just death stared me as if to say how dare I touch her.
Stupid bat.
We got off at where we were told to - our instructions were to walk 200m towards St Michaels - only problem was that we could see 6 odd different Cathedral type buildings and had no way to know which was which. After we tried 2 ways and was unsuccessful we found a McDonald's to use there free wifi then was able to find our hostel.
We are in different dorm rooms which sucks but we will manage.
I'm in a 10 person dorm he is in a 14.
The lucky bastard got a bottom bunk though so he is the lucky one lol.
We just chucked our bags in the rooms then went for a walk.
Ghent really is beautiful. I'm sure I'll appreciate it more tomorrow when I'm not exhausted.
But first impressions are its old, castle-y, and got the 'old school village made out of stone' vibe.
Our hostel does a free walking tour which we are Goni get to do tomorrow.
We had hot chocolate and waffles at a chocolate place which was super expensive but delicious!
It cost 28€ hehe oops.
I'm now in my room and Will is doing a beer tasting experience through the hostel. It's only 6:30 but I'm off to bed I'm so tired.
This was probably one of my worst diary entries yet. Just to tired to function right now lol.
I might fix it up tomorrow if my memories stay with me - they tend to get forgotten with the new days events - we will see.
YAY BED
On our walk around I threatened to put Will in the bin so he lifted me up and put me on a bunch of bins instead -.-Les mer

Because we are sleeping in different dorms we had planned to meet up at 9am in the common room for breakfast.
I got up.
9 quickly came and went. I fb messaged Will several times but he didn't respond.
I finally learnt he wasn't dead around 9:40.
By this time I had had the free breakfast - Coco pops because I figured if I was going to find out he was dead best have a full tummy to deal with the days events.
I was only concerned because I knew he had gone out drinking with people from the hostel which could mean he had made all sorts of stupid decisions.
He was ok, it was ok.
He was just hungover as all hell so we both went back to bed agreeing to meet up at 12 for the tour.
Met up at 12, he still looked like death so we decided we would do the tour tomorrow - meet up at 3.
We met up, he said he was going to have a shower and could I please get him McDonald's. I did and we met back in the common room
- half these problems would have been resolved if either of our phones had battery but our charger doesn't fit the portals in our rooms.
Wills phone was off - hence his lack of response.
He was still tired and I was really absorbed in my new book so we agreed to re-meet at 6:15.
At 6:15 we went and got dinner - he got dinner and I got the most expensive 4 lettuce leaves I have ever purchased.
We went back to the hostel and I intended to read my book. We agreed I would charge Wills phone for 20 mins in the middle of the room.
2 kiwi chicks from my room came in with Will.
If I didn't find them as funny as I did I would have stayed in and spent the night reading but they seemed like fun so I agreed to go out with everyone.
We first went to a shoe bar - not its correct title but I will always remember it as such.
You could order these big beer shaft things but in exchange you had to give them your shoe.
It was suppose to stop you from stealing the glass which costs 90€ to actually buy. You got it back once you finished the shaft.
It was funny seeing everyone without shoes.
This place was so overdone by rules though.
You couldn't do anything - you could only have one shaft or they took it away - we pulled a sneaky on them though and I ordered one for someone else.
I had some house red wines. They were pretty good for the price.
I really really liked the group of people. Will met the all last night when the idiot asked someone to hit him on the ass with a cricket bat and when they all did shoeies (you pour your drink into your sneaker and then skull it - such a goose 😷😷😷)
They were mainly American but one, extremely odd Brazilian who kept talking about suicide and the kiwis. We then went to another bar that was TERRIBLE - it was so bad we boogied for a little bit taking the piss.
We then walked on and found another place .
I spend my time talking to a Swiss lady that I assumed was late 30's but is actually 27 :0 She ha offered me a free walking tour in Bern 💪🏻
I enjoyed people watching at the bar.
Will was hungry and wanted food - one of the kiwis was tired so they came back with us.
I crashed hard considering I spent the day doing literally nothing.
Will got sent videos of hit being hit with the cricket bat and doing a shoe-y.
The American who did it with him - Chris, sent the video to his mum.
She sent back "that's a shoe-y"
Chris was so proud " ahh my parents are so cultured"
HahahahahLes mer

We were up and ready to leave by 10 - the cornflakes we had were terrible. The free juice was great.
Will said bye to all his American friends then we went to the Gravensteen Castle. Because we are under 26 we got a 8€ discount :)
We both really really liked the castle. Only negative was the amount of stairs - the thigh burn was real.
The first main room we arrived on was full of all these BADASS medieval weapons.
They had all sorts - some I didn't even recognize or know the names of.
It had some suits of armor too.
All the items were excellently preserved.
I'm another room was a huge guillotine - it was a replica but the blade was the original. It's gruesome thinking about how many heads it had cut off. It still looks very sharp. 😧
I always find the bag\bucket next to it funny. I really shouldn't but i do.
We went up more and more stairs until we were at the top - the view of the city was spectacular. Everything just looks so old - ever though some of it isn't, they've just designed it to fit in... it works!
We then went back down the stairs to a room full of torture instruments.
I love the Gore stuff. Though admittedly, these items weren't the worst stuff I've seen - I still have no desire to experience any of them though. :S
It had a stretcher and shackles with spikes etc.
There were a lot of school excursions happening as we left one group of kids was running through the front gate wearing costumes pretending to storm the castle 😂 what a great way to learn.
Will needed the loo so we went back to the hostel for a bit before trying to find a cat cafe. IT WAS CLOSED 😭😭😭😭 so I was so very very sad except one big cutey was inside bumping it's face against the wall wanting a pat which made me happy.
I couldn't read the signs so I popped in and asked if we could come in but they said they were on holiday. 😭😭😭😭😭
Hope the beautiful baby gets adopted 😻😻 the others were probably sleeping.
One real highlight of the day was that McDonalds had salt sachets.
We went to St Bavo's cathedral which was beautiful inside and had lots of relics and such.
Goodness Catholicism is different - Will had to explain so much for me. It's like a bloody cult. I felt semi rude not dabbing the water on my head as I entered but I thought it was ruder to do something I don't believe in in the house of God.
There was an underground crypt which was cool.
The most important item of the city is the painting of the adoration of the mystic lamb.
It is significant because it is the most stolen art piece of all time.
It has a very very very long history which I can't be bother typing because it's had so much happen to it but it's really is a fascinating story which involves Napoleon, Hitler and many many others. When re reading this in years to come - go look it up again.
We paid 4€ each to see.
It wasn't what I expected... we found out later that because 1 hour a day they close the shutters so people have the chance to see the outer paintings too and while I understand this I am outraged because I didn't see the damn lamb and plan to go back tomorrow and demand free entry lol.
We then had 5 minutes to rush back to the hostel for the free walking tour - our guides name was Fabiano - he is originally from Spain.
He was very passionate.
We went round the circle introducing ourselves - a lot of Australians especially from Sydney.
The guide first talked about our hostel and how the king had stayed there - it is a pretty fantastic building.
To the right of the bridge is a graffiti drawing. This was to celebrate the Hollywood movie "monumental men" which had one of the local art works included in the movie.
We were then told a story - a man was jailed and sentenced to death by starvation. His daughter was allowed to visit because it was expected he would die quickly - a year later he was still alive. They couldn't figure out how... they eventually figured it out - our attention was drawn to a beautiful building with a design in the front.
Oh dear lord.
It's of the daughter breastfeeding her dad....
That is unequivocally not ok.
Next to it was a building everyone chucked a hissy fit over when it was built but as the guide said -people hate change - it takes one generation for things to be accepted.
It was a big open building ( more like a shelter) for performances and apparently has the most beautiful acoustics. All the concerts are normally free - they built it because over 200 days a year is crappy weather which was interfering with the performances because nobody would go because hey didn't want to have to hold an umbrella.
He linked it to the Opera house and how everyone was outraged at the cost originally and said it was ugly - now no one can even imagine the city with out it - its one of our great monuments. I understood the point he was making about generations.
We walked and looked at the Belfast tower - we still need to go up. He talked about the bell and how it was used to alert everyone of the city about well, everything really.
Next was the city hall - half was an old gothic style and the other half was renaissance.
It was because they ran out of money and by the time they had some more the fashion had changed, it was cheaper and quicker.
Went to a graffiti street - loved it! It was so so bright! They had a real big graffiti problem so they made it legal to spray paint in 3 big streets - it has stopped the problem almost completely. The guide thinks more cities should do it.
It was right next to a school so apparently kids come out and 'express themselves'.
We went to a mini city square - Fabiano pointed out 3 light posts. They are special because they are connected to the Ghent hospital and flash when a new baby is born. Everyone is the square stands up and claps for their new citizen.
He took us to the front of the Gravensteen Castle and told us some more info about it.
The castle itself has only be overrun once in its history. It was in 1942. The local university students kept buying beer on campus and turning up to class drunk so they decided to double the price. The students went into such an outrage they all stormed the castle and locked the gate 😂😂😂😂 they had to call the fire brigade to put ladders up the wall to get them out.
We did see pictures in the morning as the same ones he showed us on the tour of the ladders up the wall and smoke - we assumed there must have been a fire not unit students upset over beer prices hahaha
At the end of the tour we got a very brief history lesson.
Ghent was the richest city - the emperor was from Ghent and they wanted his attention so they stoped paying their taxes. He asked them to pay they said no so he turned up with a small army to scare them then paraded the head people of the city around it white shirts with noises around their neck.
About 400 men - majority apologized but 12 or so didn't - they were hung with the nooses already around their neck and displayed in the square.
Ghent had to pay double taxes and a lot of people left resulting in the cities future troubles. I found the tour interesting but it was lots of standing - I can walk for hours but standing still kills me.
We were told by the hostel it was free and not tipped based - they lied - we gave a pathetic 4€ tip.
We sat in the hostel with our useless charger and then booked our accommodation for Netherlands - we have decided to do Luxembourg maybe when we do Germany because there is a festival on and nothing is really available.
We have booked for Rotterdam, The Hague then Amsterdam. In Amsterdam we booked a canal boat for 2 nights 🙃🙃
After about an hour of organisms we went out for dinner - I have been wanting tomato soup so we found a cute little soup bar. For 5€ each you got a big bowl of soup with meatballs, croutons, and other garnishes + randomly an apple. It was good value.
I then went and had a strawberry shot from a bar that was recommended on the tour and by many people at the hostel. It was delicious which is super dangerous haha we then went and bought these funny cone shaped lollies which are specific to Ghent. Some dude tricked his children by injecting medicine into them back in the day. They are now a symbol for Ghent. It was like eating raw flavored sugar.
Will was still hungry so we went to find him chips, ran into the kiwis and had dinner with them by the river.
We then went home and I showered but I forgot to take soap with me so it was more of a rinse.
We sat in the common room still trying to charge our things.
There was a beer tasting session going on and they were so loud, talking about politics but what was most agitating was the Australian in the group was often wrong. The American girl, though she seemed very left winged and politically different from me I don't know enough actual facts about American political history to know any better but the Aussie dude was killing us.
He wasn't spouting opinions but incorrect facts 😩
Bed time. I finished another book 😋Les mer

Woke up on time - Will didn't and made a false claim about agreeing to meet a half hour later. BS.
If I pulled that stunt he would drag me out by the ear lol
we packed and checked out but they held our bags for us while we did a few things before heading off.
We tried to get into St. michels but it was closed. No biggy.
We went to the Belfast tower. I had to prove I was under 26 because she didn't believe us 👵🏼👵🏼👵🏼👵🏼
Our savings was over 10€
We went up a gazillion stairs until we found the elevator option 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
We went to the top to look at the view - I think the castle view was better. The floor had a bit of flooding which made it difficult for Will.
We went down to the exhibits in the lower levels.
One was of the of the original dragons on the top of the tower. They use to light its mouth to scare enemies from coming. The logic is sound - no one would want to attack a city with a dragon hahah
The next level had lots of bells and a long video about how to make one - the process is significant longer than I thought it would be. Was surprisingly interesting to learn about.
Next level had the big Roland clock. I think the original - the city loved he bell.
We had a quick breakfast afterwards then went to see if we could see the lamb painting without having to repay.
They let us in for free. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It truly is a sensational piece of art.
I took a sneaky photo because of its significance.
There is an awesome drinking fountain in the city. It's not for people but for horses, dogs and birds. They each have their own drinking level.
We then went back to the hostel and collected our bags
- off to Bruges we go!
It was the most successful journey we have had thus far.
We had no wait time for tram and following train. We chatted to a lovely English couple the whole way there.
Got off and onto a bus - the bus driver told us where to get off and we walked to our hostel - easy peasy :D
The queue for check in was stupid we we sat down for a bit before eventually we checked in, got our key and went to our room in the building next door.
We have assigned beds this time.
I've got a top and Will has a bottom but they are the best looking beds we have had yet. They have a curtain for privacy which is great and storage big enough for our big bags not just our backpacks.
Our dorm is practically empty at the moment.
We took all our dirty clothes to a laundromat- the wash cycle was 40 mins so we went for a walk - I had some yummy tomato soup and Will had a croissant. Went back to use the drier then took them back to the hostel where we both had a snooze.
We are up now and on a dinner date in what we think is the town center - for first impressions I'm a little underwhelmed. It is lovely but every single bloody person we have met has been like YOU MUST GO TO BRUGGE. I was expecting the most amazing city. So far I think Ghent is far prettier.
I don't understand the fuss, maybe tomorrow I will.
We had burgers - they were so small but juicy as all crap, so gooooood.
Will suggested I might like an ice cream on the way home - who am I to say no hahah.
We saw such beautiful swans on the canal on the walk home.
Just hung out in my little capsule bunk. It's so spacious I love it.
Bed time :D
We have no real plans for tomorrow - maybe we will hire bikes? The locals I think were almost born on them - their multitasking skills when riding, while dangerous, is very impressive.Les mer

I cannot believe the inconsiderate dickheads in my room.
There is a group of 6 or so German douchebags who literally kept the entire dorm up all night. They pretty much had a damn party in the room. They were yelling at each other at 4:30 when someone finally asked them to keep it down.
If they do it again tonight I might snap.
I death stared them as we left this morning.
We decided to try find a frog statue you are suppose to kiss and while doing that find somewhere for breakfast.
We found a burger shop and my original excitement to try everything on the menu was halted when the burgers we did end up choosing where revolting. Expensive too. It was some "healthy bun" , ew.
We had a look at some paintings in a market before heading back home because Will needed to poop.
Why he can't tell that he needs to desperately go before we leave the house is beyond me.
We hung around a bit trying to figure out a map before heading towards a comic bookstore - Belgium is obsessed.
It was a decent walk but we found it - we had to dodge so many horse carriages on the way! I loved the whole store! I ended up buying a TinTin comic because the character was created in Belgium so I think it's a great souvenir. I can read it myself, to Jaxon and kids at work. 👍🏼
Will originally gave me a 4€ budget and would not even consider raising it to 5€ but after seeing how cool they looked he allowed me to spend the 9.50€ - it's good quality paper too so it should survive. 😃😃😃😎
We then walked to the blood basilica church*?
The upstairs section has a famous vile of very very old blood that some claim to be from Jesus Christ.
We had to walk up one by one to an alter that had a Priest who presented us with a small prayer pamphlet thing.
The blood looked super sick 😷 . It had like white bubbles kind of like and ice block?
It was cool though. I know it's not authentic - if they had any proof at all it would be a far bigger deal and people would be lining up the door - as it is, it was a cool novelty to see.
We ran into the English people from the train and had a quick chat. The lady is having the same problem as I am - I want to do a canal ride and a carriage ride but Will has no interest.
You win some you lose some. I got a comic today so I'm stoked :)
We found the frog and I kissed it. The people around must have thought I was a loony. The theory is on the 100,000 kiss the frog will turn into a prince. Alas, It did not. Lol.
We walked back and found this sort of beer festival thing. Well, it had big blown up beers and a beer stand? It also had a random jumping castle and a live band thing but it was first a marching band and then a Scottish band. Will loved it so we actually stayed for a fair few songs. They were very good.
Love a man in a quilt hahaha.
We're back at the apartment and I feel sick.
The lack of good food is taking its toll I'm sure. Unfortunately it's just simply impossible to eat properly and not spend an entire days budget in one meal.
I had an hours snooze while Will went to see some windmills - the beautiful boy brought me back a salad and Oreos :)
I ate it, we talked to a few people in our dorm and now im back in bed planning to read while Will might go to a pub crawl/ figure out how we are going to get to Flanders field tomorrow - so unimpressed by the tour options - you can't reserve a spot only make a request. So we have no idea if we are going or not and they are so hard to contact so we thought fuck em, we will do it ourselves.🖕🏼👍🏼
One company emailed me back - I think we will try to it ourselves tomorrow but if we fail miserably we will do the tour on Tuesday. I wish we could go Monday but all museums close on Monday -.- we leave on Tuesday so it could be a small issue but we will see.
I popped my head out the window before. Will is standing outside with a few people drinking. At least I can see him and know he is safe :)
I finished my book. Yipyip.Les mer

Bruges

I was so hot all night it was ridiculous I even went to the bathroom to wet my hair - when Will eventually got home I was dying so he opened up the window for me - the partying noises from downstairs came blaring through but at least I cooled down a bit.
We woke up later than we should have this morning but I still didn't feel fabulous and Will was recovering from last night so I quickly did more thorough research about the Flanders field museum - we are so so so pleased - it is open this Monday :DD we got lucky here. Tomorrow it is - today we will rent bikes.
We are also very happy we didn't go today because Grandad sent through an email with details of a relative buried there. We are both happy to have not missed the opportunity to find him.
Even though I'm technically not related I feel a sense of pride.
Looking forward to tomorrow very much.
We got up and went for Kebabs for breakfast - there was too much meat in them.
We have now done our daily return to the hostel for Wills poo........... and I'm now waiting for him before we go get bikes.
We ended up lounging around for a lot longer than anticipated but eventually, we did make our way down to reception for 2 bikes.
For the first time ever Will fitted something better than i did. My bike was just a little big too but so I couldn't walk and stand in the seat with out being on my tippy toes and even then it was very difficult.
We went for a 2 hour ride. I thought we were going to ride around the suburbs but we ended up doing a big circuit out of the city and into the country side. It was beautiful riding along the river with the wind in my face. I did eat a bug though 😒
We took a random right and headed into farm land and saw the biggest bull, omg what a heffa!!
It was beautiful this part and my favourite leg of the journey.
We ended up in a suburban area which I didn't like being in because I just seemed to always second guess my knowledge of their road rules and my hesitating made it quite dangerous. I normally(to Wills annoyance) just jumped off my bike and walked to the footpath.
We rode past a prison -low security judging from the outside and past cute little streets with buildings that weren't cottages but reminded me of them.
We rode through a nice park - my ass was KILLING me at this point.
Will said I wasn't a very good rider but he can suck it because I didn't fall off AND I rode for the longest amount of time with no hands I have ever done - I even did 5 or so full pedal motions before I put them back on.
Will said I wasn't allowed to try again because we weren't wearing helmets - I figured that was fair enough lol.
We rode past the windmills Will went and saw yesterday - I hadn't missed much. Lol
We made it home and my throats is still super sore.
After grandad told us of his relative buried I thought I would ask Janice and Richard if I had anyone else. I learnt my Great Grandfather fought at Fromelles - survived and came home to marry Lillian Chapman. Lilian's brother James died and is buried at Mericourt Cemetery.
So I think that makes him Pupa's Uncle. ( Or maybe Nana's but I assume it would be Pupa's side)
I think Wills relative is Grandads Uncle too.
Unfortunately both of the war fields for my family are in France not Belgium - hopefully we will have another opportunity later on.
We went for a walk to find Flemish stew at a place recommended to us by a girl we met in Bulgaria - unfortunately it was booked out so we found another place that sold it.
We blew the budget out of the water but we figured tomorrow we are saving a heap of money by not going on a tour and doing the war fields ourselves.
We both had the Flemish beef stew which came with apple purée - the flavors went together so well!
Will also got a Caesar salad. We spent a whopping 75€
But it was so good. #YOLO
We then found a chocolate shop were I bought 3 bars worth because I feel like we haven't eaten enough considering our location + I didn't want stupid little bite size things. I wanted chocolate blocks that wouldn't spoil because they had a packaging lol.
We tried to find a supermarket to get toothpaste but failed so we are now home.
My sore throat is turning into a nasty cough but I will push on!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
So I finally wrote the 2 postcards I've been carrying around for weeks. One to nana and one to Baba Penka.
I used google translated to write Baba Penkas but it spat out Cyrillic letter not Latin letters so I literally have no idea what I've said to her. Hahah all part of the fun. It was so weird to write. If worst comes to worst I can message Danny to let him know what I intended it to say lol.
The postcard to nana is super crappy as I couldn't fit hardly anything onto it. Im sending it to my house so mum and dad can put it with the Rose stuff I got for her. Maybe I'll write them an email to give her as well with more info.

Iepor

Such a terrible terrible night sleep again.
My bunk is like a sauna. At 4:30am I finally snapped and opened up the window. Relief was slow to come. I had spent the last few hours tossing and turning climbing up the walls trying to find a cool patch.
Will didn't come wake me at our designated get up time and as I was so tired I decided to wait for him instead of going to wake him up.
We left around 10:15 - we didn't have tooth paste so our breath has probably been delightful all day - we got some before we got on the bus just so we didn't forget later on. We also got orange juice because now his throat is sore too. #vitaminc
I did the most DISGUSTING phlegm cough this morning. I opened my mouth to show Will and he said he thought it was gum hahah😂😷😷
We found the bus stop and I was stress free because every single bus that stops there goes to the station so there was no chance of a mistake. It was 3€ each again. We were offered a deal a while back to a bulk pack of rides which brought the cost down to 1.5€ each but we didn't think we would be catching the train that often. Our bad. It would have been a good investment.
We had subway for breakfast. I think I've said this before but our subway is 200 times better. They have so few choices.
We went to buy tickets (originally she pull up the price and it said 50€ we were like uhhmmmmmm?!?!! But then we got the under 26 price which dropped it down to 24€ so that was much much better! ) and were told we were going to have to change trains, to go to platform 8 and our train left in 5 minutes. I was too busy focusing on the "our train was leaving soon' aspect that I didn't think to ask when we needed to change. We figured this small problem once we were already seated on the train.
Will was more stressed that me about it. Unlike Buses they can't just go anywhere, they have to stay on the track.
I could feel his stress so I asked the lady infront of us for help, she asked someone else, they chatted for a while and then she told us she was going to have to ask the conductor for us.
Turns out we had to get off at the last stop (that's what i had assumed anyway) I thanked her a lot and Will visibly relaxed.
We got off at the stop - can't pronounce - then found our new platform. We had a 30 minute wait until we were on our way to Iepor.
When we arrived we walked toward the In Flanders fields museum.
We were given a poppy bracelet each and a free book.
The wrist bands were awesome - as you entered you had to enter details about yourself such as name, age and country/state - this information was noted and changed what information was given to you through your bracket.
I was told war stories of people my age from my area whenever I registered my bracket against the interactive signs. It was clever technology.
The museum was fantastic. Not only education but thought provoking and emotion triggering.
As much as I enjoy reading about it I think I learn far more through the picture displays.
I don't remember dates and each countries overall roll, movements and strategies. What I will always remember is the photos which as the saying goes - each speak 1000 words.
There were uniforms, personal items, a conscription ballad box, machinery and so much more to list.
There was an old tree that I found fascinating too.
It died naturally but in its rings you can see the change of colour during the period of war and the effects it had on it.
There was few mentions of Australia as we fell under the British but we did get our own name sometimes and I felt such pride.
We found a program that lists all soldiers who lost lives and we found both men.
It has a slideshow of the names of all men who lost their lives 100 years ago to the day.
It was very moving. I watched it for a long long time and it never repeated. (Not that I expected the number to be small but it really brings the point home) it was just one days worth of casualties.
There was side section the the museum for the Australian photographer Frank Hurley.
One aspect of the museum which was really good is that it had actors in little films talking around the place. A lot I didn't understand but one movie theatre section I sat in and watched for a while was in English. It was 3 separate nurse/doctor type people from the war explaining their experiences.
It was very up front about the truth of the horrors they saw.
One thing that has stuck with me is one nurse saying one man sobbed and sobbed and sobbed when he was receiving awards in his hospital - they hung them above his bed. She said he sobbed because he knew If they were praising his so high that meant he was going to die. "And he did not want to die"
The museum called us a taxi - we got in and it drove us to the cemetery that Grandads uncle is in. Strand military cemetery. On the way he drove us through the Menin gate which is a memorial for the missing.
He drove and drove and drove and I started to panic looking at the meter. It ended up costing us 50€ to get out there.
We couldn't figure out how to get into the cemetery but we hadn't gone all that way to miss out so we checked that we weren't going to intrude on any graves before we jumped over the ledge/fence.
We knew he was buried block 1 row A.
We assumed that meant he would be in the front row at the start only he wasn't.. we walked up and down rows looking for Private John Joseph Crowe until finally I realized the ordering system - it was back to front. We walked to the back corner and we finally found him. It was a very moving moment. What I found to be truly beautiful was that a stranger had left a message on his grave. I'm assuming from what we saw it was a school trip and they each had one cross to give out and this boy has picked the lonely grave in the corner. It was special. We walked around and it struck me just how young everyone was. The oldest I saw was 41 and 34, everyone else was either a teenager or early- mid 20's.
It saddens me greatly just how many haven't been identified.
The graveyard was peaceful. We didn't talk much - just took everything in.
It had a section of 6 or so graves to the side where it said that they thought these men were somewhere In the cemetery- they just didn't know which grave.
On the way out we found the proper door.... 🙄
Oops.
We walked down the road with no idea how we were getting home. We were roughly 14 km from the museum, that much we knew. We decided to walk in the right direction until the next town, have food then figure it out.
We came across other cemeteries and walked through them as well. One plot had 4 Victoria cross winners in it.
It had a big memorial listing many many names of those who died but location is unknown.
It also had headstones for 5 soldiers who's graves were destroyed by another war.
We walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked.
We came to hill 63 apparently - well there was sign looking at a corn field?
We also found a big watch tower thing (Irish peace park?) which was opened in 1998 by the Irish president, Belgian King and Queen Elizabeth the second. It's a symbol of peace.
I enjoyed (not in a happy way) just looking out into the fields and imagining the carnage. It was hard to imaging the lands and dead and destroyed as they were back then. They are lush now. Signs of the war are still evident with hidden bunkers here and there.
We came to a town but nothing was open - WE GOT SO LUCKY - A BUS TURNED UP GOING TO IEPOR STATION!! We jumped on so relieved!
We got to the station, went to find Will food then jumped on the first train - got kicked out of first class...didn't even realized there was hardly any difference.
We swapped trains and at first had a whole carriage to ourselves until the most drunk human came stumbling on.
He rambled to us for about 30mins. He tried so very hard to speak English but goodness it required patience on our part.
He was off his head and kept repeating himself and focusing on Kangaroos
"Yes yes yes" he said after every 5 words.
He graciously offered us both a house to stay for free next time. He had playboy bunnies tattooed on his hands hahaha
I really enjoyed him but it required concentration hahah.
Back to Brugge station, onto a bus and now back at the hostel 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I am so damn sore.
I think my ass is bruised from riding a bike yesterday - I'm considering taking a photo just to check. I'm sure there are going to be big black welts. Haha
My right foot hurts, my legs hurts, and my back hurts.
Whinge whinge whinge.
I have also lost one of the key cards. Not even my fault I've had nowhere to put it to keep it safe.
Well obviously my fault but still.
I can't keep it in my wallet which is locked away at night when I need it to go wee - I think it must have fallen down to the bed below but I can't find it 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
So tired - we go to Netherlands tomorrow :D
No clue how we are getting there yet but we will hopefully figure it out :) haha
It was a good day.Les mer

Transit

I love country change day, it's so exciting :)
We got up at 8:30 to pack. We could make as much noise as we wanted because literally everyone else in the dorm was also up packing too because checkout was at 10. Today we had the hostel breakfast for 3€ which was pretty good actually. I had Coco pops some fruits and juice.
We would of had it other days but weren't up in time haha
We figured out how we were going to get to Rotterdam (2 trains) then headed up to the bus stop.
Will wanted to walk to the station but I shut him down quickly. Why yesterday he wanted to catch a bus with no giant backpack to carry and today with big bags he wants to walk is a mystery. I appreciate cost is a factor but walking yesterday would have been smarter.
We caught the bus then I minded the bags at the train station while for the first time ever, Will organized the tickets.
It was only 6€ each to get to Antwerpen station.
I had a snooze on the way as usual. I feel like a small child fighting sleep every time it's so silly.
It took about 1.5 hours until we arrived.
Antwerp station was awesome - it reminded me of the big fancy American and British ones. Such intricate architecture and of course, a clock.
We decided we would buy our next ticket beforehand so we knew how much time we had to eat.
This leg of the journey was more expensive - 23€ each. I suppose it is an international train so that's actually quite reasonable. Will keeps complaining I got him sick. I told him not to kiss me but he didn't listen, so tough. 💁🏼
We had 45 minutes so we ate at the only option - old mate, McDonald's.
Will wants soup for dinner though which I'm excited about. I always want soup but he never does so yay!
Back at the train station and we are on platform 22. It's so bloody big we went down so many levels before finding it.
We are now on our second train on the way to Rotterdam, The Netherlands! 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 so keen! Especially for Amsterdam. Our first 2 stops are more obligatory stops because we promised ourselves to do each country properly and not just main cities where we could help it.
We have decided the next 2 days will be rest days for us both and we will only be walking around not spending money. 👍🏼
I did really like Belgium though. Brussels was my favourite and Ghent was Wills. We both liked Bruges the least. We really weren't that taken by it - if you take the canals away it has no beauty. It's the same building styles as Ghent only Ghent has flower boxes everywhere. 🌺
Bruges was also so busy - not the last 2 days but the first 2 were ridiculous.
It was so expensive too.
Overall the people were very friendly and it was easy to communicate. The cities were clean and had wonderful buildings.
They are famous for chips, beer, chocolate and mussels..
The chips, I think, are done better by almost every local chicken shop at home and the chocolate can't be beaten by Cadbury, though still admittedly delicious.
I haven't tried the last batch I bought so we will see if my opinion changes..
I would happily come back to Belgium.
So far I would rank countries
1. Macedonia
2. Bulgaria
3. Belgium (a very very very very close 3rd - it might even overtake once I've reflected more)
And all the way down the bottom
*drum roll*
Greece.
What a pile of poo.
I do still want to do the islands though.
I know we have also been to Rome but I don't consider Italy as 'completed' yet so my ranking cannot be made yet.
Will is sleeping.
My nose keeps running and I hate the sniffing sound.
We made it to Netherlands ! We haven't shown our tickets or passports to a single person.
Good job Europe; glad to see those heightened security levels...
We did technically have to scan our tickets as we left Rotterdam Station but that posed the same challenge and the security levels at Epping station..
We walked for about 10 minutes before finding our hostel - you could smell the weed in the air hahah
Rotterdam is definitely the most modern city so far.
It don't know if this will make sense later but it looks modern because of how many glass windows each building has.
We got the the hostel and dumped our bags - we are of course on the top floor 😞 we took the double bed because there was only 2 other top bunks available.
We then went for a walk to buy cold and flu medicine for mr complains a lot.
We then went into a coffee shops because we were interested to see if weed was legal just in Amsterdam or the whole country. It only occurred to us when we smelt it that it was probably the whole country just people only ever mention Amsterdam.
Yes, it's legal and very readily available. The shop we entered also had magic truffle. Magic mushrooms are illegal, truffles are not. They gave us a booklet packed with information about quantity and effects.
It was so bizarre just standing in a shop which advertised and sold drugs and no one was on edge expecting to get arrested any second. I was though hahah.
We will obviously be trying at some point. You can't not go to the Netherlands and ignore its culture??? Hahah
#wheninrome
We then went home took some medicine and laid around for a bit. We walked around the entire city trying to find an ATM. How a city functions without having them readily available is quite the talent.
We then had Asian food for dinner because we couldn't find soup - Will was ecstatic because he found katsu curry on the menu. I tried a chicken ramen broth thing. I didn't think much of it.
We are home now and i just want to rest.
Our room isn't full so that's a bonus.
It's 10:30 and the sun is still up.Les mer

Rotterdam

Woke up to find everyone in our room had left so it was just us.
Will said I had poo breath so he made me brush my teeth before we called Jess because today is a difficult day for her - it's her wedding anniversary so we just wanted to check in.
We chatted for a bit until we got passed to Helen and Bill. We hadn't talked in a while so it was nice. Jaxon kept on trying to pull Bills hair which was so funny to watch because you could just tell by the look on his face he thought he was hilarious hahah
We then called Mum and Dad. Dad accepted the call but we didn't talk straight away because he had to finish his game of solitaire first...... hahahah glad to know he misses me soooo much :P
He called mum and we chatted for a while. They still haven't gotten the parcel so
I will have to check its tracking tomorrow.
Dad told us he had pulled out of Kokoda which from what he said was the smarter decision but I'm still disappointed for him. I think he was looking forward to it.
We didn't chat about much. I just said things I knew they had already read in my journal but I didn't want to hang up so I just kept talking.
When we did hang up me and Will then went downstairs to have breakfast in the lobby. So far the Netherlands, or rather Rotterdam is cheaper than Belgium even if only by a little bit. It's most welcomed. We then went for an aimless walk of the city. You could slot sections of it into Sydney.
I quite like it actually even though there isn't really anything to do.
You have to be so careful with the trams though - they have tracks through grass so you think your safe standing in the middle section when actually you could get hit any second.
There is a massive statue of Santa and yesterday we saw it and I though he was maybe holding an ice cream cone with a few scoops but we have since discovered it's actually a butt plug..... hahahaha
It was suppose to be a Christmas tree but it got renamed because of its appearance hahah
What a great statue.
We went and sat in a park thing. More like a little pond in the middle of the city - we watched some baby ducks eat algae. The ducks have stairs to enter and exit the pond from 😂
I smell lots of weed.
We found an IMAX and decided to buy tickets for guardians of the galaxy. We had 2 hours to kill so we went back to the park and just relaxed. It's very peaceful.
I can't deal with some of their biking skills.
The balance and maneuvering is insane!
We still don't know who has right of way.
The cinema was pretty empty. The adds were in Dutch so they were fun to watch.
The movie itself was in English but had Dutch subtitles.
Wills brain is exploding because we have learnt that 'Vader' is father in Dutch and he has made a connection in relation to Darth Vader from Star Wars.
I enjoyed the movie. There was a few times where they tried to hard to funny but I did enjoy it.
We walked home and are now relaxing. Still no one in our dorm.
I have organized pick up tomorrow with our Bnb host. Hopefully it all goes smoothly. The guy is from
Aleppo, Syria so we will have to really watch our tongues more than usual regarding politics and refugees etc.
There is an advertised "gym" in our hostel. That means 2 ropes hanging from the ceiling and a heavy ball.
Today we also found the 2nd best statue. It was a dog and a turd hahahah
SUPERB!
We had diner on our way home from the theatre. I'm so happy I never unpacked so I have nothing to pack tomorrow! Woohoo!
I just went to do a quick wee which ended up taking me on a midnight ad adventure for a girl in the shower. She said she forgot her towel and could I go get it for her. She told me what room so I awkwardly entered a dorm with 4 people and embarrassingly started looking through what I thought was her stuff.
I eventually felt far too uncomfortable so I went to my room and got her mine.
She was very appreciative though.
Bed time ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
In messaged all the Danish girls earlier. I have their schedules so I will hopefully book Denmark soon. :)Les mer

The Hague

Will always wakes up naturally before we need to and it destroys me.
I commented that I did not need to be packed by 9am when checkout was at 11 and we couldn't arrive in The Hague before 12 anyway because our host wouldn't be ready so he could let me "waste" time sleeping or sit and do nothing. I was left in semi peace until 10.
Our noses are running like taps but other that that all man flu symptoms are gone. 👍🏼
We checked out - we had to take all of our linen downstairs which just added to the juggling dilemma. We got back our 20€ deposit and then we started the very hot journey to the station. I get so angry at my jacket - it makes my forearms sweat - Will has the same issue. It's very weird sweating from there and only there.
I get so cranky and flustered when hot.
We went to an ATM at the station, got out some money and still had time to kill so we went to a Cafe for breakfast - can't say coffee shop here - that means place that sells marijuana, not coffee haha.
I got so cross about my order. I was so excited for my ham, cheese, tomato toastie - I asked specially to add tomato - they brought out a plate of tomato sauce instead -.-
Will loved his eggs Benedict.
We then went to Starbucks because of their Wifi and I must have looked like a right fool trying to figure out the ticket machine.
First, I went and didn't have enough money/coins.
Second, I went back with more money only it didn't take notes.
Third I went back with a credit card, tried to pay but it had no where to tap the card or insert it into?
I then went and got a white hot chocolate cause Will could tell i was getting angry.
I then realized I had enough coins to get the tickets so I went back for the forth time, I went up with the correct amount of coins only to realize my last euro was actually a Lev so I had to press money return and walk back like a dick again.
THE FIFTH TIME I WAS SUCCESSFUL🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I sat down so relieved to find my white hot chocolate was a normal hot chocolate and that made me sad cause it tasted like poo.
GAH.
What a 10 minute saga that was.
People honestly must have thought I was a retard.
I contacted the host and said we would be leaving Rotterdam at 12:56 - we told each other what we were wearing to make identification easier.
He made a comment Will would be easy to spot because he would be the tallest in the station.......
I never mentioned his height so that was creepy as fuck. I'm hoping he just stalked me on fb and made the observation there. I dont notice Will is tall so it always takes me back when people notice it themselves haha
Let's hope we don't get abducted✌🏼
The tickets are cool and have a shiney bit.
We went through the barriers to platform 9.
Imagine a Sydney where there were permanent train timetables printed everywhere with designated platforms that were reliable? Oh the dream.
The station was awesome I liked how many platform there were next to each other - row after row.
We waited 10 mins then hoped on.
I liked Rotterdam. It's very modern but a little boring for tourists but still glad to have visited.
The train was about 15 mins to get to The Hague - we had to be careful to get off at the right station because we weren't going to central - we were going to Des Haage HS.
We got off and walked down the stairs in search of the ticket box only we couldn't find it...
we walked up and back but nothing..
I tried to get wifi as I suggested maybe we go back up to the platform to see if there was another set of stairs going to a different section - there was and we found our host.
I had a small giggle. When he said he was going to pick us up I automatically assumed a car.
Nope, this little guy was standing there with a bike hah.
He was very friendly.
He walked us back to the apartment- conversation was pretty easy flowing.
His name is Nidal.
He has lived her for 1.5 years and doesn't overly like it - he says he hates the weather. He said it's a topic of conversation every single day and limits a lot of things.
His apartment isn't he one advertised but he already told us that so that was fine.
It was about a 10 minute walk from the station.
He gave us the same warning about saying cafe not coffee shop hhaha
He told us that The Hague has a nice beach. Will answered for the both of us saying unless it's right next door we probably wouldn't bother because our beaches are pretty kick ass so we have seen them before.
The apartment is nice - he gave us a drink and showed us our room. It will do just fine. He didn't linger so that was great so we are now cooling down in the room.
We took a lot of Snapchat photos and videos as we relaxed.
I am waiting for Wills daily poop to be ready so we can go exploring - I don't want to have to return home 10 minutes after leaving lol.
Went walking into the city.
Skipping to the main part - we ended up in what I think is the old parliament buildings or like a square.
It had a gold fountain.
People were watching something getting filmed but nothing happened so we left.
It called the Binnenhoft but don't yet have wifi to be able to add information about it. Lots of police presence.
We then found our first real chunk of nature - we walked over this bridge covered in beautiful flower boxes then sat on the side of the canal. It hurt our butts cause the ground was made of seashells.
We just sat there and looked at the fish in the water and birds on top. There was a big ass barramundi looking fish. We want to know what type it is.
I really like swans.
There road system is doing my head in. They need to make their bike roads more obvious - especially if motor scooters are allowed on then too. They go so fast through the main squares and streets. They are literally everywhere. I feel like I've pulled several neck muscles having to check 360degrees every time I want to walk anywhere.
We think we saw the international courts - not sure though will have to check when we have internet.
We then went to find a torture museum - we missed the last tour so we will go tomorrow.
We walked past an archaeological dig site so that was pretty cool. It looked like remains of an old building and a pile of bones.
We sat at a cafe for lunch and drinks.
Will had the beer samples. He wasn't fussed by any of them really - for someone who claims to love beer he is very picky with them.
We saw the aboriginal flag today which I thought was pretty random.
We both already like The Hague better than Rotterdam.
The buildings have more character - they are a different style to what we saw in Brussels - less gothic.
And less modern than Rotterdam. It still feels like every buildings has a story.
We ate dinner after walking around more in a Italian shop. Terrible service.
We walked home and watched the Avengers.
Our host has awful Arabic sounding music on. It's so loud.
He also just played "let it go" from Frozen......
I have a theory.
I think we are in a refugee zone/housing commission which would explain why he said his real estate person said he couldn't do Bnb. It kind of seems like scamming the system if he got another income out of an already freeby. I don't care either way.
But we are definitely in multicultural area. A New countries representative every direction.
It's a low income area but I still feel very safe.
The toilet is so weird it has a bowl at the back up high and water at the front ... basically what happens is when I wee the bowl catches it so when I go to flush I can see the quantity of liquid if I so desired... It's different.....
Will has had a stupid Indian "dinga dinga dinga dinga, dinga dinga dinga ding" song in his head all day and keeps singing it. 😓
I had a good day. We like this city.
Very important thing I forgot to add.
On the walk home we saw a man order a FISH of a cart in the middle of the street and swallow it down like a bird.
Who the hell would willingly eat street fish. It did not look well kept or refrigerators and it was so gross.
The end.Les mer

The Hague

I showered this morning and his shower had the strangest water flow - it was almost, but not quite mist. Definitely the smallest water streams I've used.
His toilet is pretty gross. Well, it's more very stereotypical male bachelor toilet - it smells like piss.
We headed into town around 11
We went to Burger King for brunch.
Ahhh I hate being given mayonnaise, it really irks me.
We then went and booked in for the torture tour for 1:45. We were early so we took ourselves through the very basic self guided section.
The best bits were walking through the "judging chambers" - a normal room the judges would discuss everything and then give their verdict through the window to the crowd below.
The second cool bit was all the original humiliation signs on display.
We were still early so we went to sit by the water. We watched a very determined duck/bird collecting things for his nest. He didn't stop - he dropped one thing off to his partner who took it by her mouth and went out for more.
The girl was sitting on about 5 eggs which was exciting.
This entertained me for ages.
We walked back...
We were told when buying our tickets that the tour was in Dutch but we would be given audioguides - when we arrived we were told the wonderful news everyone one our tour spoke English so the guide was going to try and do it in English. We were very pleased.
The place is called the prison gate.
He gave us a brief overview of the prison gate.
It was not built as a prison - the Bennihof castle next door was a hunting castle. Before the Hague existed the lands were great for hunting so they built a castle here next to a big river.
The gate was originally a strategical entry point. It became a prison 200 or so years later when the castle residents didn't want the criminals in the castle dungeons anymore so they were moved.
The prison then worked for 400 years. Up until the 1850's (I think) only in 1924 was the river moved back so that tram lines and things could be layed down.
This was when the gate, once so important, became irrelevant.
You can't tell outside the significance the gate must have had once.
The first room he took us to was a jail cell for poor people. He explained the conditions.
The one cell held 15 - 20 people as they awaited there sentence.
I found it interested to note that being in Jail was never a given punishment. It was only ever used when awaiting you sentence of either humiliation, corporal or capital punishment.
The cell had no light and you stayed in the clothes you came in which ranged from 2 weeks to 6 months.
They gave them water but the water was from the lake that the toilet was connected to..
There was no glass on the windows so during winter they would have been freezing.
The best room was where the rich stayed if they were accused.
It was laughable the difference. They were allowed to bring their own furniture from home, order food and expensive wines, buy firewood for the fireplace, candles so they could work during the night and all sorts of other creature comforts.
The room played host to one of the most famous and dark injustices of Holland apparently.
I will find out there names later but story goes
- it was the Witt brothers.
The brothers were very unpopular politicians. (Are there any other type?)
1 brother got accused of planning an assassination of, i think, the Prince or King.
He was tortured for a confession because apparently they couldn't sentence you without one.
He never confessed so they said he could go.
Only problem was because of the torture he couldn't walk so he wrote to his other brother to come and get him.
He did. They both were in the room when the crowd outside demanded they die - they forced their way into the room and dragged them out side and killed them.
Instead of being sentenced themselves, the murderers where rewarded by the king.
It's widely accepted that this was planned by the king.
Both of the brothers portraits hung in the room.
The next room was a room containing the corporal and capital punishment items such as swords for decapitating - the blades don't have pointy ends so they are easy to identify.
They all so had a breaking rack which looked horrendous.
Apparently only men were hung, woman were strangled on a pole because if the were dropped from the gallows people would be able to see their knickers up their dresses and that was simply unacceptable and not child friendly.... HAHAHA
A very loud stereotypical American man found that very funny.
They also had the humiliation racks where you were shown off in the street. People could pee and spit on you but they couldn't hurt you.
Our guide was doing a very good job as you could tell he was uncomfortable with English but because he had to think every sentence through he took much longer than usual and we were running late - we rushed to the torture room which I'm pretty sure the red stained floor didn't come like that..
it had some grizzly looking items but because of time he skimmed over a lot.
I'm glad he did it in English and I'm appreciative but I do wish he was slightly more fluent. Oh well, I actually really enjoyed it and it was only 10€ each.
We then went over to the park to plan our next move and on the map found what looked like to be another big park.
We walked and had a hot chocolate on the way. A lady was losing her shit inside because she couldn't pay by credit card. She was talking to herself and swearing and it was very funny.
THE PARK HAD A DEER ENCLOSURE. 🦌😍
We wanted to see if we could go in so we walked around - it had a sign but it said private :(
We kept walking around past the central station - I love that on one side of the road was city and the other had a deer enclosure with such unkept forests. It's so beautiful and different from the staged botanical garden style parks.
On our walk we passed a lot of ducks and geese.
We enjoyed deer spotting. I've looked up many "what to do in The Hague" websites and non of them have mentioned the deer park - ludicrous.
This app is so annoying. I had to re write half of this entry because if I turn my phone on the side it malfunctions and doesn't save it -.-
It's happened a few times.
The 2nd time I write it is never as good and misses a lot of detail.
The Hague has this random red, blue, yellow, black and white checkered symbol everywhere. Literally everywhere.
We walked past home back to the other station to buy groceries. We have bought breakfast, lunch and dinner for tonight and tomorrow. So hopefully we can save some money.
We had a huge nap.
We had a bread roll before going to sleep but now random people are in the house and we don't want to get in the way by making dinner.
I guess we will go without haha.
It's nearly 1am so I said I wanted to go to bed. Wills response
" yeah no worries, I'm just watching this video, 8 amazing balloon tricks, then we can go to bed"
Important stuff👍🏼
Forgot to write on our way home we walked down their red light district street - can't wait to go to the Amsterdam one but this one was pretty funny too. I mean this with love..... but goodness most of the girls were so damn ugly. Like noticeably so.
Fake drawn on moles and coloured eye brows. Ew lol
They all looked so cranky ha.Les mer

The Hague

Goooood sleep.
We ate cereal for breakfast then made up sandwiches for our trip to the beach. #adulting
It was a 6km walk there 😩
On the way we walked back down the red light district street heheh.
We also walked past the Palace of Peace where they give out the Nobel peace prize so that was pretty cool.
Also found out the other day we did not walk past the international criminal courts - bummer.
I had a wedgie the whole way it was so uncomfortable. Undies kept riding up 😒
Just before we reached the beach we got stuck up in an obviously very popular, Saturday Market.
We tried to get through quickly but people were so slow.
I was busting for the toilet so we had a drink at a cafe so I could have access to the loo. They had a bowl asking for 50c. I did not pay.
We then walked along the beach for a while.
The beach is very nice but simply doesn't compare. The sand is similar but the waves were practically non existent. The lack of palm trees also made it look bland.
We wanted to sit in the shade rather than in the sun so we set off towards the pier.
While this beaches surf is lacking it is incredible on every other way.
For the section of beach we walked past it had sea life, a circus, zip lining, bungee jumping, a ferries wheel, trampolines, beachside restaurants/cafes, set up sport zones, games, markets, carousel you name it!
Will reckons they wouldn't need all that stuff if the beach itself was better but I would love to just combine both 😍😍 great day out for families!!
Oh, a jumping castle too.
We sat under the pier and smashed our sandwiches. The pickle mayo we bought we were going to donate to our host - not anymore - is coming for the ride 🤤
We had a very small snooze in the sun. We covered our faces with our jackets.
We decided after procrastinating for a long while we might as well head back.
6kms to go! Woohoo!..
We had 3 separate breaks on the walk home. 2 on benches and 1 in a park. We finally made it and we were both so glad. It was a great day but also very very long.
I had another nap.
I then really needed to book Denmark to lower my stress levels but Will wanted food first.
He wants to take the soup to the next place and get a kebab.
We are both a little burnt but not too bad considering our lack of sun safety today.
Our host has had like 5 showers the past day.
I booked 2 trains and Copenhagen + Aarhus accommodations.
The trains will be interesting. One goes to Hamburg then the next takes 7 hours to get to Copenhagen.
Afterwards we were going to go to Berlin but looks like now we are going to Norway. I suppose I'll cope better in their Summer than Winter lol.
We FaceTimed Jess. I miss Jaxon.
So keen for Amsterdam tomorrow.Les mer
