  • Ready to Launch

    July 10, 2021 in Jordan ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

After an amazing day of exploring Petra, I woke up and started the journey to my next stop, what an ordeal it turned into. I departed on schedule, for both checking out of the hotel, and also returning the rental car. The 2.5 hour drive back to the airport was uneventful. I was very impressed by the quality of the roads in Jordan, even the back roads were well paved and free from potholes. So after turning the car in, I thought I would just check in and hang out in the lounge . . . but Noooooooo. I had nowhere else to go, and there is nothing around the airport, not even a McDonalds. But the airline would not let me in until 3 hours prior to my flight. WHAT??? I ended up sitting in the airport reception area . . . for 11 hours. No comfy chairs, no sports channel on TV, no finger food. Just me and my sorry ass sitting (getting up every hour to walk around) and waiting. Finally getting checked in, it was only 3 more hours to wait, but I had beer, spaghetti, and fast internet, so it went much faster. Glad that part is over,Read more

  • Quick Layover in Istanbul

    July 10, 2021 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Istanbul was a mess. I was the first one off the plane, but still ended up behind 200 other passengers waiting in line for another security check to get into the international transfer area. Fortunately, they opened up about 10 lanes, and things moved along pretty smoothly. But then, we move into the terminal, and there are 45 flights listed on the board, but only 5 have gates assigned. WTH? My flight was boarding in 15 minutes, and there was no gate assigned. So I stood there, waiting intently. When it did finally pop up, it was off to the races. Once at the gate though, boarding ended up not starting until 20 minutes before take off . . . plane was only about 25% full, so was quick.Read more

  • Next stop, Zagreb

    July 10, 2021 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Landed on schedule, and was a bit concerned how the customs situation was going to work. I had my vaccine card, and filled out the paperwork in advance, but proceeded with cautious optimism. Line was short, customs officer saw everything was in order . . . only question was, do you have your shot card or just this copy? Obviously I am only carrying a copy, so he gave me a quick sideways glance, stamped my passport, and said OK. So here I am, back in Zagreb. Was here last year shortly before COVID slammed us all. It is a bit warmer this time around, so should be another good visit. Looking forward to hashing with the ZH3 on Monday. But first, have to attend to some domestics . . . so off to the local laundromat to rid myself of some smelly hash attire. And, there was time for a beer with an old friend.Read more

  • Zagreb H3 #2393

    July 12, 2021 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Good to be back with the Zagreb H3. Last year just before COVID hit, we had a super fun trail up and over the mountain. This trail was very much like that, but a bit shorter. Seems that local hashing is in decline, could be COVID, or just fading interest. I hope things pick up again, this area is so perfect for hashing. Looking forward to a great week of hashing along the coast with the Dalmatian H3 starting in a few days.Read more

  • Dalmatian H3 Cruise 2021 #1

    July 17, 2021 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

First trail is in the bag. On the way over, our organizer, Antibiotics, said everything is set, but we have no hare. Say no more . . . I'm in. It was a tight time schedule, off the boat at 1730, we need to be done with trail and circle, and at the dinner table by 1930. I gave them some exercise, and we were back on board in time. Now enjoying a pleasant evening on board.Read more

  • Dalmatian Hash Cruise #6

    July 22, 2021 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Another lovely day on a Croatian island. Vis was a cold war fortress, no foreigners were allowed here until the 1990s. It was a Navy and Army base, fortified with underground bunkers. Now, it is a wonderful village and pleasant place to be. I was asked to hare again, so found some single file shiggy trails up into the mountains, and looped back into town. The walkers had a much shorter go of it, and after setting the walkers trail live, I grabbed 16 beers and headed back up the hill to surprise the runners with a beer stop. Good times on the Dalmatian Hash.Read more

  • DST H3 Trail #615

    July 27, 2021 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Was great to be back on some home turf here in Stuttgart. Hared trail, for a rousing pack of 20+ hashers. One of my favorite areas down in the valley. Was a little shorter (7.5 Kms) than I had hoped for, but found some excellent new trails to wander on and had a good time setting it. Even added a shortcut for anyone at the back.Read more

  • Swiss Nash Hash 2021

    July 31, 2021 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

After a prelube event in Ravensberg, Germany, we moved on over to St Gallen, Switzerland for Swiss Nash Hash. It was a most excellent event hosted by the Winterthur-Schaffhausen H3. The theme was "We Never Run Out of Up.". They certainly proved that on two trails, first on Friday evening, followed by a 17 km (10+ mile) main event on Saturday. Good food, good fun, and great to see so many old friends.Read more

  • Stuttgart H3 #741

    August 1, 2021 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

After 8 years, I am finally back on the Stuttgart H3. We had an excellent trail today from One In Every Port and his son. The marks have changed a bit since I was last here, adding many of the crazy marks that discourage runners on trail, but we all pretty much blew threw those marks and had a good time on our own.Read more

  • DST H3 #616

    August 3, 2021 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Hared another DST trail in my old stomping grounds. Really love that area, and it was the same start location as the first DST trail back in 2009, but I set a bit of a different trail this time. Good stuff. We had about a dozen hashers out for this one, and I gave them the full 10 K this time. Fortunately, the weather held out good for us, after a rainy morning.Read more

  • Layover in Istanbul

    August 4, 2021 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Everything was going smoothly this morning. Up early, and packed, easy. Rental car return, easy. Proceed to covid test, easy. Then the 90 minute processing I paid extra for, nothing. Went back to the test site, they said 10 min, nothing. Finally, 15 minutes later than paid for, test comes back negative. Was already checked in, so just need to show my test results. Good . . . But, where is your vaccine card, here, they ponder on it for 15 minutes, all while the plane is loading. After several phone calls, they finally approve, and give me boarding passes. Now to fight through security, had to crowd my way to the front of the line, done. But then, the person in front of me was having her bags inspected, waiting, waiting. Then head to gate, but had to go through customs/immigration. Long line again, had to bust my way to the front again, done. Finally finally finally, I make it on board. Since then, smooth sailing. Now the 10 hours layover here in Istanbul, before final leg into Baku in the morning. Adventures in travel, in the covid era. 😄😄Read more
