2021-On On to my 100th Country

I started this year having hashed in 93 countries, so the goal was to get to 100 . . . and I did. Finished the year having hashed in 102 countries, adding Ecuador, Colombia, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Czechia, Scotland, Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay. Meer informatie
  • Bogota Beer Company (BBC)

    26 maart 2021, Colombia ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Managed to get my COVID Antigen test out of the way today, so that Monday will be carefree. Wake up late, stroll over to the airport around noon, all set for my flight back to Tampa. Also met up with several hashers at the BBC to try out what was described as the high end beers. They were good, but not any better than the Club Colombia you can get for 5000 pesos ($1.25) on the street. Did get lots of good scoop on local hashing history. Early rise in the morning . . . then a 2 hour bus ride out to the country for a hash weekend. Let's do this.Meer informatie

  • Tejo

    27 maart 2021, Colombia ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

After the 4 mile A-B trail, we enjoyed Colombian BBQ on the mountain top, followed by 2 hours of Tejo, the traditional throwing sport of Colombia. Tejo is similar to Cornhole, but you throw shaped stones at a board of clay. There is a circle in the middle, lined with small explosive charges. Closest to the center scores the points, hitting the charges can also score points.Meer informatie

  • Bogota H3 Hangover Run

    28 maart 2021, Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After a long, late night of celebration, (partying), the pack looked dismal . . . but after a traditional breakfast, the weary pack reenergized, and set off for a hangover hash run, that took us straight up hill for nearly 2 miles, then cut sharply back down to the completion, where a short circle finished up the last of the beer, before embarking on the 4 hour drive back to Bogota. If you ever get the chance, do not pass up hashing in Colombia. On On!

Not sure why the track cut off short of the finish, but trail was just over 4 miles long, but somehow I managed to run close to 5. Was so good to be back and getting a good sweat going on the JRH3. Trail was well marked by our hare, Math Sucks, and the pack seemed pleased with the two beer stops . . . whatever. 🤣
There were several old faces in the pack . . . and one injury, hopefully not to bad. In the end, it was just another S H I . . .

  • St Pete H3 #162

    2 april 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

The temperature was dipping as we waited for the collective group of hashers to get their sh*t together, but eventually we managed to work our way through a chalk talk, meet the new hashers, and off we went. Sunday School Stroker set an energetic trail around his own casa (first beer check), down past the lake, back over toward 275, and on in. By the time we reached the end, it was getting quite nippily, and Math Sucks had to break out the doggy blankets. Not enough to go around, but several frigid bodies wrapped up tight while Fields administered down downs to the shivering pack. Snow Cone ran his last SPH3 for a while, as he is headed off to OCS up in Portsmouth. It was an excellent 5 mile dusk trail from S3, and we were soon off into the night.

  • Supplemental Sunday

    4 april 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Another Two-Fer . . . started with a Sunday morning wander with the No Strings Attached H3. As you may gather from the name, yes, it is a ladies hash. I was invited to join them, and it just so happens that this club is the 350th different hash club I have had the fun to hash with. It was a short, 2.5 mile endeavor, followed by a circle that the men folk were not allowed to participate in, then a nice brunch.

    https://www.relive.cc/view/vQvy1r5Mj4v

Then, it was off to the Bay 2 Beaches H3, for a bicycle trail . . . of course, as I always do, I ran it. It was another Math Sucks trail, and took in the Sunday afternoon brewery landscape. True trail was about 5 miles, but due to some space between marks, I managed to turn it all into a 6 mile outing. Another nice afternoon, followed by circle, and then dinner . . . too many beers. :)

  • Jolly Roger H3 (1517 & 1518)

    7 april 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Jolly Roger H3 #1517 (7 Apr) - It was a miraculous day, Septic Yank finally hared a trail. After hearing all those stories of his prowess of trail setting in the Philippines, we finally got to see his amazingness in person. Although the trail had . . . shall we say . . . a certain déjà vu feel to it, our rousing pack of a dozen or more hounds enjoyed a fun romp around South Tampa. Well done to Math Sucks for co-haring, she got blessed to learn directly from the master. Just wait and see how her future trails are impacted. 🤣🤣 In the end, it was just another S H I . . . T T Y . . .

Jolly Roger H3 #1518 (10 Apr) - It was the AARP trail, for Two Thighs and 0-4, who both recently retired. It was a celebration of the unencumbered life of post retirement. Well, those two women set a rousing pavement pounder, with about 25% of the flour required to make it whole. Fortunately, it was marked well enough, that if you just kept going straight, you would eventually find something useful. Well, except for that mile or so before the beer check, where the runners spent an extra 15 minutes looking for marks, but other than that . . . :o)

Previously I had hared 4 trails in a row, 4 different hash clubs, in 8 days. So this time, I hared 5 trails in a row, for 4 different hash clubs, over 11 days (the first 4 were in 7 days, for 4 different clubs). I'll get my second COVID shot tomorrow, then will get to enjoy 6 hash trails next (but only haring twice). :)Meer informatie

  • 8 Hash Trails in 8 Days

    2 mei 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

It all started out innocently, with the usual biweekly Sarasota Circus hash on Sunday, the weekly Jolly Roger hash on Wednesday, the biweekly St Pete Hash on Friday, and the biweekly Tampa Bay H3 on Saturday . . . but it was also the end of the month, so the 4th Tuesday Taco Tuesday hash dropped in. But it was also that time of the month, not that time, but the Full Moon, so add the Tampa Bay Full Moon hash on Monday. Since it was the end of the month to start the week, it overlapped into the new month, so we had the monthly first Sunday of the month Bay 2 Beaches hash on Sunday, but wait . . . there is more. The bimonthly (or whatever) Lakeland H3 had also planned a trail for Sunday. If you add all that up, by total coincidence, it was 8 hash trails in 8 days in the greater Tampa area. At the start of the week, I jokingly said “bonus week” for whoever wants to run them all. Picking up momentum, and after the first three trails, we still had 5 survivors going into trail 4 on Wednesday. One more dropped out, and by the one down day on Thursday, we had 4 survivors ready to run that last 4 trails on Friday, Saturday, and two on Sunday. Completing the first trail on Sunday, we then jumped into cars for the 40 mile journey to Lakeland, on the East side of Tampa. By late on Sunday, our dimwitted, tired, and thirsty final four had completed over 32 miles of trail.
    25 Apr – Sarasota Circus H3
26 Apr – Tampa Bay Full Moon H3
    27 Apr – Taco Tuesday H3
    28 Apr – Jolly Roger H3
    30 Apr – St Pete H3
    1 May – Tampa Bay H3
    2 May – Bay 2 Beaches H3 and Lakeland H3
8 hash trails in 8 days. What a week . . . Well done to Penis Flytrap, Fluffer, and 2-Rung Circus for joining me on this week of excesses.

  • Rumson H3 - CoMo XVI

    23 mei 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Took a long weekend sojourn up to New Jersey for the annual Commotion by the Ocean hash event, put on by the Rumson H3.

There were 122 signed up, and most everyone turned up, with the exception of the patriarch of the Rumson H3, Mr Jackson, who was a bit under the weather. Overall, a hearty 'well done' to the whole gang in Rumson for putting on an excellent hash event. Plenty of good food and drink, entertainment, and fun. Thursday night had about 50 hashers out on an evening boat cruise, and on Friday, there was an afternoon pub crawl followed by the traditional Blues Brothers dinner in town. On Saturday, we enjoyed the main event . . . which consisted of four different trails of varying length. The Eagle Trail was just shy of 5 miles, and all off road and a multitude of shiggy. Saturday night we enjoyed some social time and songs, and an exceptional dinner of smoked pork prepared by ALABAMA (A Lady, A Boy, And My Ass). Great to see several hashers from years gone by, and sing a few songs as well. Well done to the Rumson H3. • 3333 . . . and now moving on

    22 juni 2021, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

It has been a while since I posted here, getting stuck in a rut, but still hashing regularly. Finally got to my 3333 hash trail, and more to follow. I spent all day sorting out travel arrangements to start my next trip . . . to Azerbaijan. Got my follow on ticket (because on entry, most countries want to make sure you are leaving), my hotel, and my flight to Azerbaijan. And during the effort, I was wrestling with the e-Visa process, it kept getting rejected. So I spent an hour on the phone with one credit card company to see why it rejected. Turns out they have not updated their security process, so gets automatically rejected, and Capital One could not override it. So I searched the internet and found another visa service, but that one rejected me saying visitors were not allowed until 1 Aug. So, after looking around on other sites, most say 20 Jun, but did not want to fight it any longer, so cancelled all my plans. Will have to start from scratch.Meer informatie

Due to bad weather in Dallas, my plane was late to arrive in Tampa. So, that made departure back to Dallas late. Missed my connection. Spent about 3 hours on the phone to sort it out. Rebooked on the same flights, just 24 hours later. Will arrive Amman Sunday night, late.Meer informatie

  • Jordan, made it, finally

    5 juli 2021, Jordanië ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Jordan was the beginning of the end last year. After traveling for 6 months, to over 20 different countries, I was in Cairo when my flight out of Amman was cancelled due to covid. I immediately booked a flight to my next stop, Bahrain, and stayed there a month. Forced to fly back to the US, I have been waiting to get to Jordan for over a year now. I arrived late last night, after a 24 hour delay in Dallas en route. After the Long flight, I thought I would just walk the 2 kms to the hotel. At 11 pm, the temp was fine, but the way was dark. I got halfway to the hotel, and was exiting the check point for the airport, when the security guards called me aside. After 15 minutes of, who are you, and where are you going, they finally said . . . Ok, and pointed me off into the dark. Just looking out for my safety they said. Now, to get the rental car, and set off for Amman.Meer informatie

  • Hashemite H3 #2341 (Jordan)

    5 juli 2021, Jordanië ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

UPDATE: I now know that this trail was in the area, that Moses looked down upon from Mount Nebo, as shown by God, as the Promised Land.

Hashed in my 96th country this evening, with the Hashemite H3 here outside Amman, Jordan. Only about 15 Kms from the Israeli border. It was a great time, with a fun trail, a pool party, a couple of beers, and so nice to meet a couple dozen local hashers. I also got to see an old friend from Stuttgart, BPAW. We hashed together almost a decade ago. More pictures to follow.Meer informatie

  • Jerash, Jordan

    6 juli 2021, Jordanië ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

My exploration for the day, was a trip to Jerash, about 50 Kms north of Amman, Jordan. One of the first to explore the site of Jerash in the 19th century was Prince Abamelek. Excavation and restoration of Jerash has been almost continuous since the 1920s. Jerash today is home to one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities, which earned it the nickname of "Pompeii of the East"

  • Mount Nebo

    7 juli 2021, Jordanië ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

On the recommendation of a couple friends, I made a side trip on my way to Petra. Only added about 30 Kms to the drive, and it was well worth it.

Mount Nebo is believed to be the place where Moses was been shown the Promised Land by God, and where he died. This summit overlooks the northern end of the Dead Sea, and a view of the valley of the River Jordan. In the distance, on a clear day, you may be able to see the West Bank city of Jericho and possibly Jerusalem. Mount Nebo is often confused in historic sources for the biblical town of Nebo, now known as Khirbet al-Mukhayyat, located 3.5km away.

More details can be found at https://universes.art/en/art-destinations/jorda…

From Encyclopedia(dot)com . . . A biblical allusion in "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" can be seen in the reference to the River Jordan. The Jordan River is significant in the Biblical narrative. It is the river that streams through the Holy Land, and represents what the ancient Israelites followed in their search for the Promised Land.

I also did a little reconnoitering on Google Maps, and see we hashed in the Promised land on Monday, with the Hashemite H3.

  • Petra

    8 juli 2021, Jordanië ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Cross off another bucket list dream . . . After being one day away from arriving in Jordan back in March 2020, COVID turned me away . . . as my flight out of Jordan was cancelled. I quickly booked a ticket to Bahrain, and was able to explore for another month before having to return to the US. But Today, Today is the day, Petra has been explored.

Petra, a giant metropolis of tombs, monuments, and other elaborate religious structures carved into stone cliffs, was the capital of the Nabatean kingdom, a little-understood Middle Eastern culture that ruled much of modern-day Jordan from the third century B.C. until the first century A.D.
