    No one had signed up to hare, so what the heck. Its a new year, and I have nothing better to do . . . so trail one, hare one, for 2025. It was a nice warm afternoon, and I thought it would be fun to take the pack through a new park that recently opened up. Being NY Day, there were loads of families out today, and several runners, probably taking advantage of the warm afternoon to kick off their New Year's resolutions.

    We had 7 hashers turn up today. There was plenty of shiggy, as it had recently rained, but not too wet. A great way to start the year here in Florida. On On.    Weiterlesen

    Tampa Bay H3 #1230

    Another last minute step up to hare here in Tampa. Woke up this morning with a . . . ok, you got it. So did a quick scan of the area and posted an event. Thought there might just be two of us, one hare and one hound. BUT, we ended up with a hare and 5 hounds, and 3 of them actual runners.

    It was good to watch all three run up together to the finish of this 7 km trail, and NO, they did not snare me (I thought they might, but just enough checks to keep them at bay. It included a walking cutoff, but they never made it that far, and just turned back for the pub. 🙂 We ended up doing a quick circle inside the pub, and ordering some dinner.    Weiterlesen

    Getting plenty of exercise here in Tampa, with another 6 kms of fun. Today was the 6th hash in the past 11 days. It was a bit of a hike up to New Port Ritchey, but it was for a good cause . . . to hash. Meta set a fun trail in a cool little park, and we had a couple snow bird visitors come down from Ottawa, Canada. We'll see more of them for the next couple of months.

    On after was down town NPR, and what a cool little town they have. A nice place to hang out with plenty of open air pubs and restaurants.    Weiterlesen

    Another day, another opportunity to entertain the pack. Seems we have a shortage of hares here at the JRH3, so I set trail again this week. It was a rather chilly evening, but still a good night for a hash. When I took off, there was only one runner and one walker in the parking lot. By the end, we had one runner, four walkers, two dogs, and one Johnny come lately who made it just in time for a beer at the bar. 🙂

    I set an interesting 4 mile (the walker's cut it off for less than 2 miles) trail, with some mountain bike shiggy trails, and weaving my way around several buildings and parks along the way. We were asked to leave the parking lot we started from, so we drove over to the pub and had a very short circle and headed right into the bar. Another great day on the hash.    Weiterlesen

    Other Orlando H3 #2265

    Enjoying some shiggy in the greater Orlando area this weekend. We had a late Christmas (White Elephant) party last night, and then a fun trail today. At the chalk talk, it was explained there would be several T/E splits, and various other marks. At one point, it appears I got past one of the splits and ended up on a section of turkey trail, so shortened my run a bit, but not so much. All good in the end. Had an old friend turn up late, 'Running Bare' that I spent a year in Northern Virginia and then another year in Seoul, back in the 90s. Managed to convince him to come on down to Tampa for a trail I am setting on Wednesday, before he heads back north.

    Anyway, circle was long but entertaining, with plenty of singing. Another great day on the hash.    Weiterlesen

    My first trail with the OKissMe H3 in Kissimmee, Florida. Its a monthly hash, just at the south end of Orlando. We had a good trail today, our hare found some good dirt trails in and around the urban sprawl. Only 8 of us, and 3 dogs, but we had a fun run. Circle was mostly a CF, but we enjoyed singing some songs . . . then into Beth's Burgers for a late lunch.

    I invited Running Bare again, and he showed up late, and kept us waiting for the circle . . . but he finally finished. 🙂    Weiterlesen

    Another chance to excel, this was my third week in a row to hare for JRH3, overall 60th time out of 218 trails with them over the past 12 years (although I lived in Hawaii for 6 of those years, and have been traveling abroad for the past 5), so mostly as a visitor/returner.

    This was the pre-cruise trail, as they get ready for their annual Caribbean Pirate Invasion. I have participated on many of these cruises, but chose to go to Peru and see Machu Picchu this year, I'm flying out on Monday.

    Trail was 4+ miles for the runners, and 3 for the walkers, but they managed to cut a bit more off and only did about 2. I always enjoy hashing at night, but not so much in the cold . . . but all good. We had 12 hashers on hand, although another 12 had said they were coming . . . guess Jack Frost cut them down to size.     Another last minute opportunity to excel. No hare as of yesterday, so what the heck. Seems most of the local hashers are headed out of town for an event upstate in Florida, or the TexMex out west. Anyway, I set a trail and we had three hounds to follow. It was a fun 4 mile trail in the dark, through several parks and dark streets. On On to the next one.Weiterlesen

    It is often said that life is more about the journey than the destination. Well, my next destination is a bucket list item (which I think you will figure out from these photos) as I make my way along the journey over the past 24 hours.
    Fly from Tampa to Atlanta
    Fly from Atlanta to Lima
    Fly from Lima to Cusco
    Uber from airport to bus station
    Bus from Cusco to Train station
    Train on out to Aguas Calientes

    Machu Picchu

    Alright, Alright, Alright . . . here it is, in all its glory. I took over 100 pics, but narrowed it all down to the best few. We hired a tour guide, and he was good, but if I had it to do over again (I did my research ahead of time and knew most of what he told us), I would skip the guide and just wander on my own. Half way through the tour, I ended up wandering off on my own and taking pictures anyway. Other lessons learned, although you buy a ticket to get in, it does not mean you can see all you want to see . . . there are several routes to take, and each one costs money. The routes are ONE-WAY, so if you don't see what you want the first time by, you are out of luck. Overall, great to finally cross this off my bucket list, but would make a few other options for more enjoyment.

    The hiking around MP was shorter than planned, so we hiked back down the mountain to town.    Weiterlesen

    Started the day up in Aguas Calientes, and caught the train & bus transport back into Cuzco (5 hours). It was raining off and on, so thought we may stay in . . . but the rain tapered off just enough that we decided to do some exploring. We went up to the north end of Cuzco to Saqsaywaman (the Satisfied Falcon). Had an interesting walk around, and then back down into town for dinner. It did rain on us a bit, but we managed to find shelter (and beer).Weiterlesen

    We have several visitors in town here in Lima, Peru for the Lima H3 800th Hash weekend celebration. Tonight we had a mini prelube trail for 11 hashers (2 hares, 3 runners, and 6 blue blooded walkers). A nice 5 km trail through Miraflores, taking in about 10 different parks along the way. Many thanks to all who turned up, and to Opulence for co-haring trail with me today.

    We gathered up the pack at the end, and escorted them down the street to a local Chinese restaurant for dinner and circle. Pretty much, fun was had by all.    Weiterlesen

    Lima H3 #800

    We gathered up about 40 hashers for a journey about 3 hours down the coast from Lima, then inland up towards the mountains to the small town of Lunahuana. We started with a nice lunch for some energy, then checked in to our hotel to get ready to run.

    Trail was amazing, not much greenery, but plenty of good shiggy dirt tracks, for a sweet 12 kms of fun. The pictures really tell the story. We finished on a river, and had a fun circle where three harriettes were named, and plenty of other down downs of jocularity. Then it was back to the hotel for showers and clean clothes, in preparation for dinner in town, followed by a celebration party where plenty of adult beverages were consumed.
    During the festivities I met someone who is probably the 3rd oldest active hasher in the world . . . Papa Lucho, who is 91 years old, with a date of birth on 14 Aug 1933. He comes in a touch younger than El Picador who will be 93 in May, and Glamour, who will be 92 in May. It is great to see some well seasoned hashers still kickin’ it well into their 90s.

    The morning came so quickly, and it was time get dressed for a hangover trail, which the only fault for the weekend, was it was too short, only about 40 minutes. Was looking for at least 8 kms to burn off the excesses of Saturday night, but it all worked out in the end. After showers and clean clothes once again, it was another 3+ hour drive back into Lima.     We had 14 hashers on hand this evening for the 22nd anniversary of the JRH3. Over the years, we have hashed in this area many times, so I knew all the little cut throughs and off the beaten path areas pretty well. So stepping up to hare at the last minute was not to difficult.

    The pack enjoyed 7 kms of night time shadows, and dodging an occasional moving vehicle. This year, 2025, has started out pretty well with 14 hash trails (haring 8 of them) in two different countries. February holds even more potential with hashing in Nepal and Bhutan . . . so let's see how that goes. 🙂    Weiterlesen

I set a nighttime trail through some local shiggy, turns out after dark they are active homeless camps, so I had to change up some of my intended tracks. Had a chat with a few of them on the railroad tracks, they were gruff at first, but soon turned nice when I just said I was passing through for a run.Weiterlesen

    It was an early morning gathering for the 2 hour bus ride out from Kathmandu, to the venue. Upon arrival, we were offered a light breakfast while we waited for the hares to finish setting trail, and all the local hashers to arrive.

    Once we were assembled, given a quick chalk talk, we were off. The chalk talk had a couple caveats about some crazy shit about the hares crossing trail, and to be wise to not take a wrong turn . . . WELLLLLLL . . . After the first couple kms, we passed one spot where paper went off in two different directions, but one of the hares was there to point us in the right direction (you can probably see where this is going by now). As we reached the top of the first local mountain, the pack had spread out, and some of us, unbeknownst, ended up on trail going backwards, which we did not fully realize until we met the other half of the pack coming the other way.

    After several laughs and chiding the hare, each group kept heading in the direction they were on, and the backwards crew finished up about 30 minutes (or more) before those on the intended direction of trail. But overall, a super fun and grueling trail. 11.69 kms long, with over 600 meters of climbing, and decent.

    As the pack rolled in, and availed themselves of the dinner provided, some of us focused on rehydrating, and after a few beers, the circle was eventually called to order. Many down downs were passed out, not the least of them to the hares, and fun was had by all. As the temps dropped, everyone changed over to warmer attire, and our dozen or so visitors boarded the bus for the 2 hour ride back to town.

    Time for a few hours of sleep, then make our ways to the airport for a 0900 flight to Paro, Bhutan . . . and a week of adventure. More to follow on that.    Weiterlesen

    Druk H3 #4

    The hashers from Hyderabad H3 (India) started the Druk Hash (in Bhutan) last year, and it was so successful they set it again for this year. From our hotel in town, we took a bus up the mountainside today to Jigme Dorji National Park for our first hash trail. The long trail continued on up the mountain for a bit, and we got started with a loop that circled our way back down to where the short trail started. From there it was a grueling 800 meter climb up hill, to a temple with an amazing view of the valley.

    After a half hour or so of wandering about the temple, we all headed back down the mountain. Trail was only 6 kms, but the 800 meters of climbing was brutal. Once we got back to the buses. we loaded up and went to another part of the park for circle and lunch.

    On the way back to town, we stopped for a tour of an art school, and then back for hot showers and rest. Tonight the plan is to do some touring, hit up a craft brewery, then on to dinner. Another great day of hashing.    Weiterlesen
