    Bangkok Thursday H3 #500

    We had an excellent nighttime trail tonight, a little short but yet very well entertaining. I did not get a good count due to the close quarters of the pub, but I would guess we had 40-50 hashers on hand for this auspicious occasion of 500 runs. We also received free shirts to commemorate the event.

    Mekong Full Moon Hash

    For many reasons, this year's traditional full moon hash was in question. BoBo keeps bouncing back though, and without fail he pulled another one off. This year he even tried getting run over by a scooter, but even that could not stop him.

    He did however, require some assistance to get trail set, which a few of us happily obliged. We went out in the morning yesterday at a slow pace, marking trail, while BoBo pointed here and there for us to make checks, false trails, and other requirements. At one point we had to cross a log over a stream, which took a good 15 minutes alone, but we managed to get it all done in 2.5 hours. As we enjoyed a beer or two at the venue, it started to rain, and after it tapered off, three of them went out to mark a short walker's cutoff to shorten things up for those who chose to. During that rain, they discovered that the water had risen up over the log, and making it even more difficult to get over.

    As a last minute change, I ran out and rerouted the trail to avoid the water crossing, and many of the pack took that route . . . BUT, some who don't pay attention during the chalk talk, still managed to veer off from the obvious arrow, past two very large XX, and take the old trail to the water crossing log . . . fortunately, by that time, the water had receded once again, and they all made it across.

    Overall, we had 150 hashers take part in this 6 kms (runners) and about 3 km (walker's) trail. The venue was awesome, but it had also been rented out to another party of about 200, and they played very loud music that nearly blasted us out. Eventually they took a break with the music, so we then commenced our circle. Then they started their presentation, and we ended up having to compete with them, but we were able to manage a solid 30 minute circle. Then we feasted, drank, and chatted with old friends, that we may not see again until next year's Mekong weekend in Cambodia. It was a great cap for yet another awesome weekend of hashing.     Mekong IndoChina Hash - Hangover Trail

    We wrapped things up with a 4 km A to B scurry this morning, taking us to a restaurant on the outskirts of town. After rehydrating a bit, we circled up for one final foray into Mekong hash craziness.

    IboIbo brought in all the legacy attendees, and got things rolling. We continued with numerous other infractions of fun over the weekend, and then ended it all with a fine lunch of Thai delights. A second circle did emerge for a bit, but things had run their course and we all wandered off into the sunset satisfied we had done our best.

    BUT . . . for those hardcore hashers, we still have the Mekong Full Moon trail tomorrow. Ahhhh, we just cannot get enough.     Czytaj więcej

    Mekong IndoChina Hash – Main Event

    Last year for Mekong, I was one of the Ball Buster hares. Even last weekend, I was a Ball Buster hare for Thai Nash Hash . . . so I guess it was a simple case of, that IboIbo thought it would be funny if I was assigned to hare the SHORT trail this time. So I coordinated with SLAP to organize a suitable short trail, that connected to the medium trail. Then I recruited CIA to be my sweep, and he helped ensure all made it into the finish. 🙂
    We had 150 hashers turn up for the short trail, and almost everyone walked, which was fine. We had a good time talking and enjoying the calls of nature. Trail turned out to be just about 3.6 kms, with a couple easy water crossings and one that was a bit tougher (enough so that a couple hashers found their way to wet shoes).

    There were also plenty of interesting thing to snap photos of, and I have included a few of them. The short, medium, and long all ended up at the same place, so once everyone had finished their trail, we had a light lunch before getting into the fun of circle. It was a good solid hour of fun, with many hashers stepping up to rat out their buddies for various hijinks on trail. It was a great day on the hash. We wrapped things up with dinner back at the main venue, with skits and other entertainment, followed by DJ Smoke, who spun discs late into the evening.     Czytaj więcej

    Mekong IndoChina Hash - Red Run

    MIH 2025 has officially kicked off with the RED RUN . . . some dresses, some shirts, and some crazy other stuff (just look at the pictures) 🙂
    We met on the far end of town, and wandered our way back to the venue. After we got a welcome from the Regional Governor, we presented out charity check for 100,000 Thai Baht (~$3000 USD), we received the cheer of GTFOOH . . . and off we went.

    After heading into town on some streets, trail hooked left and went up hill through some muddy trails before descending back down to the beach. It was a mostly calm 3.5 km trail with a fun circle on the beach. Good times, and we are now ready to rip up this weekend of fun.     Czytaj więcej

    Thinking Drinking H3 #82

    TDH3 rides again, here in Krabi, Thailand. We had over 200 hashers on hand for yet another awesome trail (set by Boob-a-lube, Incomplete Erection, and Seamanator). Those hares provided three trail options of Short (2.5 km), Medium (5.2 km), and Long (8.4 km).

    I opted for the long trail, and it was excellent, but ended up only being just a bit over 7 kms. No worries, it was totally soaked as it rained for a couple hours after trail was set.

    Savannakhet H3 #18

    First prelube trail for this year's Mekong IndoChina Hash in Krabi. We had about 50 hashers on trail for a leisurely stroll about town. Starting from the Kodam Kitchen, trail headed north along the soi with the first beer stop about 1.5 kms away. It was a bright and sunny day as we entered the shop for a beer, but 5 min later it was pouring rain . . . so then it became a condom walk for over half the pack. The shop nearly sold out of rain ponchos.

    After an extended stop, we started moving again just as the rain was subsiding on to the next beer stop. Then it was down to the beach for a sunset beer stop. From there we made our way down the beach to the on it at Jeanette's Italiano restaurant for pizza (and a few more beers). Great catching up with many old friends.     Czytaj więcej

    Pattaya H3 #2120

    Wrapping up the weekend of events after Thai Nash Hash (and 10 days of hashing the hills and dales of Pattaya), we had one last day of hashing here.

    It was their annual Oktoberfest celebration, with oom-pah band, brats, sauerkraut, and kartoffelsalat . . . and of course beer, but not bier, only the local piss. 🙂

    Trail was an excellent shiggy-fest starting out with the first km as a conga line through the tall grass, but soon opened up allowing us to stretch our legs a bit. There were also a couple water crossings and a streambed to boot. It was shorter than usual at 5.67 kms, but the hares stated it would be short to accommodate the extra events in circle. What were those extra events you ask?? Well, mostly it was a tug-o-war between nations. Starting with the harriettes - Thailand vs The Philippine Islands. The hares stretched out the rope, and the teams loaded up on each end, the ready-set-go was given and not more that point 69 seconds passed before the rope snapped in two. The hares, being of high intellect as you would expect, quickly tied the rope back together and tried again. This time, we had a winner (can't remember which team won though).

    Next up was the men's team of France vs Belgium . . . then UK vs ???, and The Yanks vs ??? . . . the final affair was UK vs The Yanks. As before, point 69 seconds later the rope gave way, so it was tied off again, and with the final attempt, less than point 22 seconds in, the rope broke for the third time and it was called a draw . . . prizes for everyone.

    It was a great day of fun and foolishness in celebration of Bavarian Culture. The hare team has been hosting this event for 24 years now, so you would think by now they have it figured out. 🙂     Czytaj więcej

    Thai Nash Hash 2025 - BB Trail

    It has been a whirlwind of activity the past few days. I was already in Pattaya for several trails last weekend, so was ready to go. They actually opened rego for the Nash Hash on Tuesday, so was first in line to collect my goodie bag, which was full of . . . well, goodies (see the photo).

    I was asked to co-hare the BB trail, so on Thursday morning our hare team of three hares set off into the jungle to set trail. Eight hours later, we emerged from the jungle having covered 24 kms of what would turn out to be (20-21 Kms of) an AWESOME trail.

    Saturday morning rolled around early, and due to all the rain on Friday, our BB trail needed some touch up, so I was nominated to go out and check up / reset the first half (10 kms worth) on my own. Now, I had only seen this trail once, while we were setting it, so there were a few gaps that I had to reconnect, and it left me guessing in a few instances, but in the end all was well. Only a few of the FRBs passed me just before pulling in to the drink stop. One of the other hares was remarking the second half, and we all met up at the end. The circle was a hoot, with tons of down downs and they were all enjoyed ON THE ICE. We eventually made it back to town for a quick shower and return for the party and dinner. It all was great, EXCEPT . . . they had hired a band that only played Irish Ballads, so while the first couple of songs were interesting, it got old quick and I bolted for the door.     Thai Nash Hash 2025 - RDR

    Pattaya H3 #2119

    I have had the good fortune to run with the hash club a few times now, and today was yet another awesome adventure through the local countryside. This hash was originally founded as the Pattaya Mixed H3. Trail today was yet another great shiggy trail, with plenty of dirt tracks through farmer’s fields, water crossings, and lots of just general shiggy. Another great day of hashing in Pattaya. (One quick note . . . it was 41 years ago today, that I ran my first hash trail, in Japan.)

    Hashing spread to Pattaya, with the establishment of the Pattaya Mixed H3 on 7 Jan 1984. Founded by Molly Kirgis who had just been exposed to the Bangkok H3 on an outstation run, she was assisted by Bill 'BJ' Jones and her husband Hans. The written description of hash number one stated that the trail would start from Jomtien Beach, and included waterways, bushy nature, ponds covered with water lilies, and buffalos who fortunately were far enough away that they did not interfere with pursuit of the finish. After creating their thirst, they proceeded to the home of the GM to quench it with beer . . . and thus inaugurated the Pattaya Mixed H3.

    Hashing biweekly for the first year, they celebrated their first anniversary in conjunction with the 25th run. One hundred hashers gathered in Rio Park for the event, and it was at this point that founder and GM at that time suggested that Frank ‘Whorerator’ Benfield become the next GM. Years later, assistant founder Bill 'BJ' Jones is quoted as saying “It was after that the hash began to change from the mixed hash, that had originated a year earlier, into a more macho type atmosphere.” This probably saw the elimination of ‘mixed’ from the name, resulting in simply the Pattaya H3 as they are known today.     Pattaya Jungle Harriettes #2

    In a joint celebration with the Pattaya Jungle H3 #551, the ladies have established themselves to reign supreme for total harriettes organized run. They organized their first run 6 months ago, and plan to do again every 6 months.

    Today we had two trails, one for the walkers at about 5 kms . . . and a 10 Km trail for the runners. The runner's trail reminded me of all the primary reasons I love to hash. That is . . . I LOVE THE TRAIL more than anything else, and the trail today was absolutely fantastic. No pavement, all shiggy tracks through the jungle, palm trees, and pineapple fields. Trail included a few water crossings, and was so good. At one point for about 10 minutes, I was all by myself as I faded back towards the back of the main pack. It was quiet and peaceful, hardly a sound coming from any direction, felt like nirvana.

    Back at the finish, we all had the opportunity to rehydrate before dinner was served, followed by the circle. The circle includes a raffle of various donated items, including hash haberdashery, alcohol, and other things big and small. (I managed to win a nice bottle of Scotch.) This is how the keep the prices down for the wide array of offerings they provide at their biweekly trails. Normally they run on Saturday, but moved to Sunday this weekend to accommodate the 20th Anniversary of the Pattaya Monkey H3 yesterday.

    If you love shiggy trails, then make sure to visit Pattaya if you ever come to Thailand. You will not be disappointed.     Czytaj więcej

    Pattaya Monkey H3 #120 -20th Anniversary

    Another first for me, running this hash. They treat everyone as a virgin on their first run, so there was a bit of hazing, but all in good fun. Trail was an awesome near 13 km shiggy fest through assorted terrain, with hills, fields, streams, and a couple other water crossings.

    The main pack finished in just over 2 hours, but the back half of the pack streamed in over the next 2 hours, while the DFL was out for over 5 hours before opting for a ride, coming in at 6 hours. What a ride that must have been.

    This club only runs every other month, so have only accumulated 120 trails over the past 20 years . . . but quality over quantity is not a bad thing. Will have to come back for more.     Czytaj więcej

    Lady Boy comes through with flying colors. Capitalizing on his excellent trail last night, he nailed it again with another awesome trail . . . and this one was fully in the dark from start to finish. Have I mentioned I love hashing in the dark.

    With numerous alleyways and khlong paths, this trail tonight was nonstop fun. Circle was fun, and then we moved on for an excellent Thai dinner. Great times in Bangkok. Next I am headed to Pattaya tomorrow for a week of hashing and the Thai Nash Hash next weekend, Non-stop FUN!!     Czytaj więcej

    Bangkok Monday H3 #2179

    It was one of those . . . it might rain, it won't rain . . . kind of days. In the end . . . it DID NOT rain.

    It was an A to B run, starting in the fading light of the afternoon, and finishing in the twilight evening hour. We had about 20 on trail this evening, and all seemed to have a splendid time.
    A little background story . . . I used an old bandana that I was handed in Fiji back in 2018, for Trinidad & Tobago. Seems I had not had the opportunity to wash it over the past 7 years. I did not notice until I finished trail today, that my sweat had fostered the drool of red dye all down my face, from the bandana. 🤪

    With a ton of awesome twists and turns, the pack managed to navigate this 8 + Km trail through China Town. A great day to be on the hash here in Bangkok. (waiting to see the other photos taken on trail, and will update this post later).     Czytaj więcej

    After wrapping up Pan Africa Hash in Ghana last weekend, I made my way over to Bangkok for some more warm weather hashing. Flying on Monday night, arriving Tuesday afternoon, and kicked off another week of hashing on Wednesday with the Harriettes . . . a fun 8 km trail. Then the Bangkok Thursday H3, another excellent all in the dark 8 kms of joy. Then followed those two up with the Bangkok H3 on Saturday.     Pan Africa Hash 2025 - Accra, Ghana

    This was the main event. It was initially explained as . . .

    "The trail is set up in 4 sections, you can run them all or choose what you want to run. The first section in 5 kms for the runners, and 1 km for the walkers, others just stay on the bus to the first beer check. Section 2 is set up the same way, runners will go about 5 kms, the walkers will be dropped off about 1 km away from the second stop. The third leg will be about 3 kms, and the last leg will be about 2.5 kms."

    So, what we got was . . .

    The first leg was about 5 kms, down the sidewalk to the first beer stop of about 30 min. Runners took off from there for another 4 kms, and the bus took the rest. At the second stop, we were told we ALL had to get on the bus to ride to the next stop. After boarding the bus, we ended up in a traffic jam for 30 minutes, and then the lead bus broke down. Eventually arriving at the third stop, we exited the busses and walked about 2.5 kms to the next beer stop. From there, it was all back on the buses to the venue.

    Overall, a fairly long day of bus rides and standing around, with 9 kms of running and 2.5 of walking. The party, dinner, and dancing back at the venue was excellent. Food was tasty and plentiful, the beer was on tap, cold and plentiful, The music was fun, and all around a fine day. I give it 9 out of 10 👍😀 for all aspects other than the trail, which was more like a 4 out of 10. 🫤     Czytaj więcej

    Hash Founders' Hash #17

    After 41 years of hashing, I had my first actual run in with the law. On my 752nd lifetime hare, while hashing in Ghana on our way from Nigeria to Accra, Ghana, we stopped for an overnight in Keta, Ghana. Two weeks ago I was asked to hare a trail here, and it ended up being a Hash Founders Hash. Totally in the dark, I-feel Tower and I set off to set a short trail at about 2130. It all worked out well last night, but this morning on our way out of town, we were told the police wanted us to come in for questioning. The people of the town thought I was spreading Jaz, a voodoo poison. 90 minutes of waiting ended with an... OK, we understand and let us go. Czytaj więcej

    Lomé H3 - Special Trail in Togo

    As with everything on this prelube bus excursion, everything has been behind schedule. We spent 3 hours at the border crossing, and along with other delays, once again it was well after dark when we finally reached the hash site. The Lomé H3 was very kind to wait for us, and very welcoming once we arrived.

    Trail was a well organized concentric circle of backchecks and twists. The on in had plenty of cold beer, and the circle was short but high energy. Another great day on the hash.     Czytaj więcej

    Cotonou H3 - Special Trail

    It was a brilliant week in Lagos, but it was time to start moving towards Ghana for Pan Africa Hash 2025. We started loading the bus at 0730, but a few hashers decided they were going to breakfast at that time, and kept us waiting. Once we were all loaded, we stopped at a store for beer, that took another hour.

    Finally hitting the road, we then stopped to fuel the bus, that took another 45 minutes. So you can see this trip was going to be special. Once we got to the border of Benin, it took us over 4 hours to process, holy crap. We were so late, that once we finally arrived at the special hash site the Cotonou H3 had setup for us, we were at least 3 hours overdue.

    Since we were late, and it was drizzling rain, the hares decided to cut our trail short and just run up the beach. Not to be deterred, Dildo and I decided we were going to take over and run a real trail. Zigging and zagging along the beach front, Dildo got us started. Then he called a checkpoint, and as the pack waited, I ran out into the distance waving my phone light to signal the pack to come. I then led them over the highway to the village for a bit, and then did the same, turning it over to the original hare who said we had made it to his trail anyway, so in the end, we still had a real hash trail, albeit a bit improvised.

    We then had a nice circle with the local hashers, all in French (with a little translation mixed in). Next we still had another hour plus drive to our hotel, so it was midnight by the time we arrived. What a day, 17 hours of transport with a hash in the middle, and all was well.

    Next we have a similar encounter with the border to Togo. Let's see if things go a bit smoother today. 🙂     Czytaj więcej

    Lagos H3 #2532

    This is our final hash trail here in Nigeria as we prepare to set off on our land excursion headed towards Ghana for Pan Africa 2025 in Accra. The history of hashing in Nigeria is as follows . . .

    Hashing is more popular in Nigeria per capita, than most any other country in Africa. I cannot be totally sure, but it appears there are over 30 hash clubs here, more than the rest of Africa combined. The first hash club to form was the Lagos H3, founded by Albert Withnall on 5 Mar 1979. Albert had come to Nigeria from Singapore, where he was a legend, being appointed as the very first Grand Master of the HHH Singapore in 1974. Albert was assisted by Robin Jackson, Andrew Wilson, Angus Robertson, Bob Ashman, and Peter Taylor.

    Today, we had a city trail of about 6 kms starting and ending at Fiki Marina on the inland waterway. We had about 50 hashers on trail, as we dodged the traffic in search of the three beer stops offered up by the hares. Now I don't care about beer stops, but the pack did, and they had a great time.     Czytaj więcej
