    Bangkok Monday H3 #2190

    15 декабря, Таиланд ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

It was a solemn event, as we first attended the "bathing rights" for our dear friend Captain Eric, who passed away on Saturday evening. We then had a hash trail in his honor, and it was excellent. Over 6 kms of fun on the run.

It is always sad to say goodbye, but we know we are all going to be there one day. It is comforting to know that we have our hashing family to give us a grand send off. Honors to Capt Eric.

It was the AGM, and the new MM took over. Well, actually the AGM was on Friday evening with the annual Christmas party, but we go forward from here. We started off with the sad news that long time Bangkok hasher, Captain Eric had passed away Saturday evening . . . may he RIP. On On shipmate.

Trail was set by outgoing GM, Drunkin' Donut, and it was an excellent trail, with plenty of shiggy, pavement, and even a few small bits of confusion. Most of the pack came in after dark, but all were thirsty, so beers beers, beers for everyone. It was a B to A setup, as we were bussed out to the run start, and made our way back to the venue. All good times, best wishes to Pom and the rest of the new MM.

We had an excellent trail today, up north of Nonthaburi. Over 20 harriers were in search of trail, but working as a solid pack we tracked down all the checks and easily made it through. I was enjoying the trail so much, I totally forgot to take any pictures, just the start and finish.

The Bangkok hash clubs enjoyed their annual Christmas party last night, so a few regulars were noticeably missing. 🙂

    10 декабря, Таиланд ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

It was a holiday here in Bangkok today, so we had an early start for trail. We met over by the Chao Phraya River for a crisscrossing of the river trail. Both side of the river had excellent small alleyways, back alleys, and bridges to keep things exciting. We ran over the bridge for the first cross, but after about 4 kms, we ended up on a pier where we had a short wait for the ferry to arrive for the second cross.

Once everyone was accounted for once the trail was finished, we boarded a river boat for a dinner cruise to enjoy the city lights. It was a most excellent day on the hash.

Short flight over from Saigon to Bangkok, but so nice to be back on familiar terrain. I always feel comfortable here, like home. Anyway, arrival, train to town, walk to hotel, check in, unpack, get dressed, and off to the hash.

We had nearly 20 on this virgin hare trail, but she was supported by Virginia Slim, so no telling how good it could have been without his influence. It was about 6.5 kms headed out the south end of Benjakitti Park. Weather was perfect, and all was well.

I have about a month here in Thailand, so time to relax and get caught up on so many tasks now that the book is done. On On.

  • Vietnam Nash Hash - Main Event

    6 декабря, Вьетнам ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

After my sorry showing in the BB trail at Pan Asia Hash a couple weeks ago, I was fully ready to go on the BB trail here. We loaded up the vans at 0830 for the hour + drive out to the start point. After a quick chalk talk, we were pointed off into the forest.

Trail wasted no time in heading straight up a mountain for the next 600 meters. After that it was rolling crestline until we found the down escalator. After bottoming out, we again started back up the next mountain until reaching yet another peak. But the downhill on this one was brutal, slipping and sliding on the small round rocks and little branches . . . baby steps all the way down. We finally got to a stream, and then turned to parallel the stream for the next 2+ kms, both on the banks and in the water.

The pack was spread out quite a bit by this point, and the lead pack was long gone by the time the second pack made it to the first drink stop. About 15 minutes later, the third echelon arrived, and yet another 15 minutes saw the final group arrive. Nearly half the pack at this point, had decided to call it a day (including me). I have begrudgingly come to the realization that trails with massive climbs are no longer in my wheelhouse of joy.

Sitting back at the finish, it would be 3 hours 50 minutes before the first five BBers came in. It would be another hour before the next group finished, and over 6 hours before the last group came in. What a day. I still love hashing, but have to strongly consider which trails I choose in the future. 🙁

After a nice hot and refreshing shower, it was back to the venue for dinner and socializing. Making an early evening of it to get a good night sleep. 🙂

  • Vietnam Nash Hash 2025

    5 декабря, Вьетнам ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Started the day with a 3 hour bus ride from Saigon out to the beach for this most excellent event. The trip was pretty much uneventful, so all good.

The registration desk was fast and efficient, with two shirts, a waist wrap, couple of patches, and a dry bag . . . excellent.

By 1700, the pack started gathering for the anticipated start of the red dress run, and off we go. Had a few issues with trail, seems the plan was to go down the main strip, then circle back on the beach. BUT . . . they set the trail at low tide, and by the time we arrived a few hours later, errrr . . . you can figure it out. They recovered nicely, by turning us around and taking us back to a point where we could access the beach and not be washed away in the dark. 🙂

After about 5 kms, we were back at the venue, where cold beer and other assorted beverages awaiting a thirsty pack. A good start to what will certainly be a great weekend. On On.

    4 декабря, Вьетнам ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Another first for me, have chatted with the club and other clubs here in Saigon, to get them added into the Genealogy, but first time to run a trail with them.

We had about 20 in the pack, 5 runners and the rest walkers. Runners' trail was a fun zip around the city, with lots of cool alleyways and parks. Circle was short and sweet, then off to a food court for a late night snack.
That's it for Saigon, we catch the bus out to the beach in the morning, for Nash Hash. Good times for all.

    3 декабря, Вьетнам ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Enjoying some local prelube events to the Vietnam Nash Hash. It was an excellent city run, taking in plenty of the inner city sights, all with a jaunt through the shopping district. 🤪

Walker's got a quick 3 kms, while us runners navigated a 6+ km trail. All was well until about 10 min before the finish, when it started to rain, but we all managed to find our way back to the bar. Good way to start this weekend . . . tomorrow it will be a trail with the Sophisticated Sirs of Saigon H3, then Friday catch the bus out the venue for the big event. Boooo Yaahhhh.Читать далее

  • New Taipei H3 #662

    30 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

It was the AGM today, so out with old and in with the new. There were about 200 hashers on hand for this auspicious occasion, and they all came to celebrate. Trail was an excellent 6 km city run, but had plenty of scrub brush sections along the way. Circle was under a highway, so lots of echo, which made everything loud. It was all in mandarin anyway, but still hard to hear anything. Dinner was excellent, but had a long train ride back to the hotel, so bugged out early. Yes, yes . . . another great day on the hash.Читать далее

  • 229 H3 #35

    29 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

It has been nearly 10 years since the first 229 Hash trail. Founded as a Leap Year event, to be held on 29 Feb . . . they have added a couple extra trails in there every year, and today was 1129 for Nov.

There were about 75 hashers that turned up. I had the option of a couple other hash clubs in Taipei today, but chose this one since it runs so seldomly. Good thing too, because it was an AWESOME trail, taking in a bit of everything . . . pavement, rice paddies, scrub brush, bridges, drainage ditches, forest, dirt tracks, the beach, and much more. This has been the very best trail I have run here in Taiwan over the past week or so.

Circle was all in Mandarin, so I only understood the hand and arm signals of what was going on, but got the meaning in most cases. After that, we made our way to dinner, with plenty of good food. An absolutely stellar day on the hash.

  • Taipei Night Trail (TNT) H3 #298

    28 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After Thursday night off with no hash available, today it was back out east for the TNT H3, and another first time with a new club, brought up for a down down as the FNG. After hashing with now 471 different hash clubs, I think I need to start bringing up the entire new hash clubs for being the first time they have hashed with me. 🤪🤪

Trail tonight was relatively short and A to B, but brutal on the climb and descent, with lots of stairs and rocky dirt paths. We even had some narrow drainage ditches, and a section of tunnel. An absolutely fun evening running in the dark of night. Again, the pack was mostly young and super fit hashers that left me in the dust. Great to see the hashing spirit so alive here in Taiwan.

  • Wednesday Hash At Taoyuan (WHAT) H3 #677

    26 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Like I said . . . another day, another hash. 🙂 Had a fun time with the WHAT H3 this evening. It was a short trail, but in the dark it has its own alure. About 25 hashers turned up, and after trail we had a traditional Hot Pot dinner and circle in a local restaurant, with lots of fun.

I have been here in Taiwan for a week now, and Garmin tells me I have run / walked 65 kms over 6 hash trails and walking to them . . . so been a busy week.

Tomorrow, no hash . . . so I can sleep in, catch up on a few things, and prepare for a busy weekend of hashing here in Taipei. Good Times.

  • Night Bird H3 #614

    25 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Another day, another hash trail, life is good in Taipei. Taiwan is doing something right, they are attracting younger and fitter hashers, that love to run. Of all the cities on earth, from my review, this city is the fastest (and one of the only really) growing hash community.

I was certainly the old man of the pack, and it showed, as they left me in the dust early on. The hares said it was a 10 Km trail, but I was able to shave it off a few steps with some observant turns in an effort to stay within sight of the pack.

I need to be careful with how I say this, but . . . The only issue I had with trail, was the complete lack of checks to slow down the FRBs . . . and in my experience, what makes hashing so much fun. Finding the trail and breaking the checks . . . basically, playing the game of hare & Hounds. While we still had to find the arrows (and flour blobs), it felt more like a training run. This club is obviously successful, so I do NOT want to discourage their method at all, this is just an observation.

Overall, it was an excellent night for a hash, and the trail was mostly off pavement on grass pathways. Well done to the NBH3 for a fun evening.

  • Super X H3 #119

    24 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Decided to hang around Taipei after Pan Asia Hash, to explore the city and catch a few new hash clubs in action. While this is my third visit to Taiwan, tonight I joined the Super X H3 for the first time.

Excellent group, we had about 25-30 hashers on hand, with many visitors from Tokyo. Trail was originally billed at 8-9 Kms, but they changed at the last minute down to 5.5 kms, and moved the start about 400 meters away to an interesting building that will be explained in the pictures.

Trail was pure city streets, but a fun and fast paced trek . . . so fast, that after 2 kms, I was falling behind. By 4 kms I was in their dust, and ended up finishing pretty much on my own (but all good). But surprisingly, in the first 5. Seems the speedy runners got to the one and only check on trail, and took off in the wrong direction and did not finish until 10 minutes later than us slow pokes.

Circle was excellent, but all in Chinese, so hell if I know what they were talking about. 🙂 After circle was over, they took a count for who wanted to stay for dinner . . . about 12, and off we went. There were dozens of places to eat right near the run site, but nooooooo. We have to walk a frickin' km to a place. I had strategically planned my hotel to be close to the hash, about 400 meters, but screw that. Now I am km away. 🙂 . . . but a nice little walk after dinner is always good. RIGHT?!? It was fun, and we all said see you tomorrow at the hash. (So more tales to come).

There were two trails today, one left on busses at 1000, the other was from the venue at 1300. About 200 of us went out for the morning trail, on this bright and sunny day.

After a great trail, we lazed in the sun for a couple hours, and had a quick circle before heading back into town. Dinner and hugs, as we partied and said goodbye to all our mates. On On!!

WELL DONE to the Taiwan United H3 for hosting a great hash event.

  • PAN ASIA HASH – (Ball Breaker Trail)

    22 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Well, this was my 7th hash trail over 15 kms this year, several of them were Ball Buster trails for various events, like EUROHASH, UK Nash, Thai Nash, and INTERAM, but they were mostly flat. EuroHash was the longest at 25.5 Kms, but only had 400 M of ascent. Thai Nash had the most ascent at 580 meters over 20 kms, but I was one of the hares on that one and we set it the day before the event. Today, knowing full well that the trail was described as 23 kms, with 1300 M of ascent, I foolishly signed up with overconfidence. I say all that to say this . . . trail today BROKE MY BALLS. They announced a cutoff of 2 hours 50 minutes at the second drink stop at 12 kms. We all thought, no sweat, should be no problem.

WELL, stats for today were . . . 168 signed up for the BB trail, 147 turned up this morning on the buses, and only 84 finished the whole trail. Dozens did not make the cut off time, including my fat old ass. We gathered up at the second drink stop, and they sent us on an alternate 4 km route back to the park. I am actually quite happy I missed the cutoff, as some hashers that made it, were out for over 7 hours. The second half of trail was even more brutal than the first. Several of the finishers boasted of 24-25 kms for actual trail, but one dude who had a couple issues finding trail, came in at 32 kms . . . WTH. For us poor slobs that missed the cutoff, we only covered 16 kms with our shortcut back to the finish.

Overall, it was a great day, and we all had a splendid time once we dropped a few beers down our gullets to ease the pain.

  • PAN ASIA HASH 2025 - RDR

    21 ноября, Тайвань ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We have officially kicked things off, having completed the Red Dress Run with close to a full up 1600 that are rego'd. Trail was described at the start as a 5 km city adventure, marked with white flour. Soon after, the horns blew, and off we went.

We rumbled off onto the narrow walkway, but soon after, a few of us were able to stretch our legs and start running. We soon passed up the pack, which was 99% walkers, and then found out the trail was not prelaid . . . the hares were just walking along in front and marking as they go. So we reverted to the map provided on the website, and followed along as prescribed. It was about 6 kms, all streets, with a few sidewalks in the park.

As we finished, the rest of the pack soon entered the venue from the opposite direction. It appears the hares had other ideas than what was posted, so the pack had a shorter endeavor with two beer checks. All good, there was plenty of beer waiting for us at the venue.

I am making an early night of it, as we meet for the ball breaker trail at 6 by gosh AM tomorrow. Still a bit jet lagged from the trip over from the USA, so time for sleep.

BTW, the book is all submitted into Amazon KDP, and once it gets reviewed and approved, it will become available for purchase. No more than 3 days from now, sooner hopefully.

  • Hashing Clubs of South East Virginia

    14 ноября, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

It was 32 years ago that I first moved to the Norfolk / Virginia Beach / Hampton area, early on in my career. Fortunately there were two well established hash clubs . . . the Ft Eustis H3 (first hash club in the USA) and the Tidewater H3. After a few months of getting settled in, I brought in the Virginia Beach Full Moon H3 to add into the mix. That was back in the day when it was common for hash clubs to run on a week night during the summer, and shift to the weekend in the colder winter months. Ft Eustis was Tuesday in the summer and Saturday in the winter, while Tidewater H3 was Thursday evenings in the summer, and Sunday in the winter. They eventually settled on staying on the weekend, and the Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday H3 and the Hobo H3 took there place during the week, so lots of hashing down here.

Hashing did not start out as a military activity, but the military has since help spread the hash around the world (and you can read about that in my book coming out later this week ;) ). SE Virginia is a major hub for all services with several bases in the area. So last year they created a hash / military mixer taking the Dining In (USMC calls it a Mess Night) and making it hash oriented. I was unable to attend last year, but they invited me back this year as the Guest of Honor, complete with a 20 minute speech on the history of the hash here in the area, and worldwide (yea yea, you can read all about that in my book coming out in the next few days ;) ).

The weekend included a Friday night trail, a Saturday morning trail complete with military themed games, the main event dinner last night, and then the regularly scheduled Tidewater H3 trail this afternoon. It was non-stop action for the past 48 hours, so I'm totally wiped out now, ready for a good night's sleep. But it was a whole lot of fun. Many thanks to the local hasher for inviting me back this year.

Also caught up with old friends Shirtless and Bum Pumper on Monday.

  • INTERAMERICAS' HASH 2025 - Sunday Trails

    2 ноября, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Probably not best to call it a hangover trail, as I took out another pack for the Ball Breaker trail. Same sh*t, different day? No, it was another awesome day of shiggy and fun. We only had about 25 on trail today, so about half the size, but they were just as enthusiastic.

Although only half the size, we still had the same number of spills, as a good half dozen made a face plant on trail. Circle was a bit calmer today, that could be related to hangovers, so we cut it off and headed back to town. It has been a great joy for me to host this trail twice this weekend, and by all accounts, the 75 or so hashers that ran this trail all seemed to have a great time.

On On until we all meet again in Orlando, winner of the bid to host INTERAMERICAS' HASH 2027.

  • INTERAMERICAS' HASH 2025 - Main Event

    1 ноября, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

We are here in New Orleans for this grand event. I arrived on Monday evening, and went out scouting trail on Tuesday. My trail site is about an hour north of the venue, and was intended to be 8-10 miles long, so it took me about 6+ hours to get trail sorted. Wednesday was a blur, but bounced back to run a couple local prelube trails on Thursday.

On Friday I dragged my cohare (Drag Queen) and sweep (IboIbo) out to set trail, so another 5-6 hour day up and back. Friday night we had the opening ceremonies, but I made an early night of it to get up early today.
There are 1500 or so signed up for this event, but only one bus was assigned for this trail, so we had just under 50 on trail (as you can see in the pictures). All did well, and we soon had everyone back for circle.
One of my initial instructions was, due to the nature of the forest here, even though you might hear someone yelling ON ON very near you, it is best to stay on trail as the narrow maze of dirt tracks are separated by water crossing and swampland. One hasher, who we'll just call "The Poster Child for I F*cking Told You So" saw the finish from about 100 meters away, and decided to go straight in, instead of following the marked trail. She was heading in, then disappeared in the swamp, gone from sight. By the time some of the hashers got close, she had managed to drag herself over the bog and back on dry land . . . but was COVERED IN MUD. 🙂 Now that is FAFO on the hash.

Circle was a lot of fun, with everyone getting involved with charges, and singing songs . . . then we had the hour long bus ride back for showers and back to the venue for dinner, bids, music and dancing.

More to follow, as I will host the same ballbuster trail again tomorrow for another 50 hashers.
