Another fabulous day of hashing and exploration, and our second hash trail on this journey. We started out with only a 30 min bus ride to the run site today, but trail was still a grueling 2 km climb to start. Once we reach the horizontal trail, it was good running for the next 3 kms along the mountain, leading its way back down to the valley. After a bit of dashing through the rice paddies, we then had another climb up to a lovely temple, before heading back down to the riverside venue for circle and lunch.

After all the hash festivities were complete, we went for another ride to another temple, then we had a nice little hike to a suspension bridge that was fun. Now back at the hotel, its time for showers, beers, dinner . . . and sleep. 😊

    22 Şubat 2025, Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After a glorious week of hashing in Bhutan, I was back in Kathmandu today for a final hash of this adventure. Well, this adventure has been non-stop for over 5 years, but you know what I mean.

Start was about an hour ride out of Kathmandu, to a small hilltop on the south edge of the city. And when I say hilltop, it was a narrow lane of a road that was fully under construction, so there was plenty of dirt and dust.

Upon arrival, only a few had shown up so I was wondering if I was at the right place. They assured me it was, and said that traffic had many running late. Even the hares who were out setting trail, ended up holding us for nearly an hour before we got going . . . and even then, they had phoned back to say just go ahead and start running. So we did.

Since we were at the top of the mountain, there was no place to go but down. Trail started out loping along a dirt road, taking in a side path here and there, plenty of dirt tracks to go around. Then we hit what turned out to be the low point, and started back up. The hares had mentioned that around this area that we best skip part of what they set, and we ended up pretty much finishing trail off paper. In the end, we were out for nearly an hour and a half, covering 6.5 kms of fun in the Nepal countryside. The pictures tell the tale.

We had over 25 hashers on hand, and I would guess that at least half of them were under 30. Great to see a young and vibrant pack of runners.
Circle was short, as we ran out of beer. They sent a truck off for more beer, but as soon as it arrived, we all were loading up for the hour ride back into the city. And thus completes another great day of adventure in the world of hashing.

Back in Florida after a couple weeks of travel to Nepal and Bhutan. Anyway, through various cancellations of trails and whatnot while I was away . . . it was the 6th consecutive trail I set for JRH3 this year. I know, I know . . . GET A LIFE!

This one was just a short 3-4 mile through a local park and surroundings. 12 hashers turned up, including 5 visitors from Canada and New Jersey. Fun times on the hash.

Many local hashers were out of town for another hash event, so we only had 9 on hand for this one. I was a last minute stand in to hare trail once again, and had a 4.5 mile trail in mind . . . but, I asked the pack what they wanted. In the end, they wanted something a little shorter, so I just went out and randomly put down trail that would fit the bill. I know this area pretty well, so had fun zipping in and out of some shiggy areas to give them all a fun night time trail. Done and Dusted.Okumaya devam et

It was a brisk evening, but good running weather. Trail was a basic square around the local ville with a couple of good twists, but the which-y-way on a false trail took some of the wind out of the sails. I was well out in front the entire way, but enjoyed an extra mile or two of running trying to figure out where the trail went. In the end, I just worked my way back to the parking lot and called it a day, but got better than 5 miles of fun in.Okumaya devam et

  • Ethiopia Nash Hash 2025 - Red Dress Run

    14 Mart 2025, Etiyopya ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Arrived just after midnight on Friday, and after dropping off my back pack at the hotel, I was whisked off to the bar where 4 other hashers were already well lit. After sampling some of the local beer (and who order those shots) it was off to bed. Early rise for city tour and lunch, and back for a rest. Then it was pick up your goodie bags and get dressed for the RED DRESS RUN.

Moving down to the basement of the venue, we got our chalk talk and were sent out onto the street. Runners follow this hare (one hare and 3 of us running), walkers follow that one (all the rest). Was a jaunt around the city with 3 pub stops before final stop for circle and dinner. Good evening on the town, but early rise for our 2 hour bus ride out into the countryside for tomorrow's main event.

  • Ethiopia Nash Hash - Main Event

    15 Mart 2025, Etiyopya ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Rise and shine for a 0715 departure, but the bus was running late, so we did not pull out until almost 8. We had a 3 hour bus ride out of the city to a national park at Suba.

Runners trail was billed as 11 kms, but the hares went off course what turned out to be over 4 kms, and we still managed to finish up at about 12.5 kms . . . and 3 hours. The first 4 kms was all UP HILL. The rest was supposed to bring us back down, but to get back on track with the hares we had to climb back up a couple kms. It was a long day, but beautiful scenery, and a fun circle. Even saw a bunch of monkeys trotting along in the forest.Okumaya devam et

  • Ethiopia Nash Hash - Hangover Run

    16 Mart 2025, Etiyopya ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We had a nice morning to sleep in before the final event trail. We gathered once more in the hotel lobby at 1430, ready to go. The van arrived on time, and we loaded up. I was honored to be asked to assist with haring the runners trail for today, like I would ever turn down the opportunity to hare. 🙂

Unfortunately, as we started to move, the hash van actually ran into the hash car, pulling off the right rear corner of the bumper. The police were called, we had to unload and pile back into the hotel lobby . . . and wait. About an hour later all the evidence had been collected, and we once again loaded up the van on our way to the run site.

Since we arrived over an hour late, and we needed to be out of the park on a schedule, the trail was shortened so that we had time for a circle and to drive back out of the park. The walkers went off in one direction, while we runners took off for some shiggy. The intended 10 km trail was cut back to about 5 kms, but the beer was cold and the views were amazing. Another great day on the hash.

We drove back into town and went straight to the dinner venue, were we enjoyed some fine eats, and maybe, just maybe, some more cold beers. WELL DONE to Sex Toy and Head Mistress, plus all the other amazing contributors of the Addis Sunday H3 for organizing this event.

    17 Mart 2025, Etiyopya ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

This club was not even registered in the HHH Genealogy, so was an unexpected bonus hash for the weekend (So obviously I had to stay around for another day).

The AH5 is strictly a walking hash, and they normally start from the Yodra Cafe in central Addis Ababa (but they occasionally meet in other places). We had a nice pack of at least 20 hashers as we strolled off for a tour of the town.

In conversation with some of the local hashers, I was told that about a year ago, a massive rebuilding effort began, so much of the city is under construction. Lots of new widened sidewalks with bike lanes being installed throughout the city. We also found lots of cool things to see, as you may discover from the pictures (waiting for many more until other hashers post the group photos.).

In addition to this club not being in the genealogy, I also caught wind of yet another hash club, the Walia H3 that runs every Wednesday afternoon at 1530. As you can see, the capital of Ethiopia is a hash haven of good hashing fun. Come check it out if you get that chance.

  • Maputo H3 #1955

    22 Mart 2025, Mozambik ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

This is my first visit to Mozambique, and it did not disappoint. I have been here for several days, enough to enjoy a Wednesday evening dinner with local hashers, as well as the TGIF dinner last night with other hashers. Today though, I scored the best part, an awesome trail with the Maputo Hash.

They always meet at the Aero Club / Volare Restaurant every other Saturday afternoon. So being of sound mind and body after the dinner last night, I rambled down the street in time to meet the pack, but also to grab some lunch prior.

Once all hashers had assembled, like the doggies, some came from near and far (if you know the reference). We jumped in the cars to head out to the run site. It was only a 10 minute drive, so no worries. We had over 20 hashers on trail, but only 3 runners with all the rest walkers. For the three runners, we had a 2 hare escort, making 5 on our trail. 🙂

We passed by the walkers a couple times as we navigated out 10+ km scurry around the ville. It was a most excellent day. We had a beer stop about 100 meters from the end, then we jumped back in the cars and headed to the place for circle. Circle was a rousing 15 minutes of fame, then all off to the Volare (where we had dinner on Wednesday, as well as met today for the hash).

Another great experience in hashing, and I learned a new word . . . MULUNGO. 🙂

  • Kalahari H3 #2213

    30 Mart 2025, Botsvana ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

I get to cross another country off the list, ones that I have previously been to, but did not get to hash. Today I got a trail in here in Botswana, with the Kalahari H3.

I inquired in advance, to make sure I was here at the right time to catch a hash, and was informed that they hash every Sunday morning. So with that confirmed, I arrived after hashing in Mozambique. At first I was a bit concerned, as I was getting only short or even one word answers to my questions. But not to worry, once I arrived at the start, every hasher was more than kind to welcome visitors.

From the start, (meet time was 0830 on a Sunday morning) a quick circle was formed to explain the trail and then we were off. There were roughly 20 hashers on hand, and 4 of us did the runner's trail, which was a fun 7 km city trail, with a few bits of shiggy thrown in for fun.

At the end (we started at the hares home), there was a sophisticated selection of local and international beverages, of which I sampled a few (there was also some tasty snacks). We soon circled up after all had finished trail, and the revelry commenced. All the usual down downs were conducted, hares, virgins, visitors, accusations, etc. and they were so kind to gift me a hash T-shirt.

After the circle, a few of us sat around for another beverage, and a chit chat about hashing in Botswana. Then, even before noon, we were all off on to enjoy the rest of our day.

Many thanks to the Kalahari H3 for a most excellent trail and all the hashpatality. On On.

  • Brazil Nash Hash 2025 - Main Event

    5 Nisan 2025, Brezilya ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The forecast was rain rain rain all day, but we lucked out with just a little in the morning, and the rest of the day was cloudy but nice. We had three trails for the main event, a Ball Breaker at about 14+ kms, a slightly shorter runner's trail at about 10 Kms, and the walkers had a casual 4 km walk on the beach.

We all met up at the beer check overlooking the ocean, and fun was had by all.

    11 Nisan 2025, Umman ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

It was a hot day of about 37C (99F), but we still took off for a fun trail in the desert. Trail was half ankle braker rocks and half road. Overall, it took the pack between 60-90 minutes to wrap up (short, medium, and long trails).

Circle lasted longer than the trail, as we stood out in the blazing sun for nearly 2 hours. Happy now to be back for a hot shower and some cool air-conditioning. We have a bit of time before we gather once again for dinner and whatever happens. 🙂

  • Oman H3

    12 Nisan 2025, Umman ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

There have been 14 hash clubs in Oman, since the first run of the Oman H3 back in 1976. Like many of the expat locations around the world, Oman is a good example of the decline in hashing since the turn of the century. There are currently only two hash clubs in Oman, both in Muscat. The Muscateers H3 that hosted the INTERGULF this weekend, founded in 2023, and the original Oman H3 founded in 1976 (I first hashed in Oman back in 2020 during the early days of COVID, when they were the only hash club here).

It was a classic 2-fer, as the INTERGULF hangover trail went this morning at 1030. After a few hours rest, I was able to join the Oman H3 on their weekly hash trail at 1730. It was an excellent crowd of over 30 hashers (there were about a half dozen runners, the rest enjoyed the walkers trail). After the run, we had a short circle with lots of joking between hashers, then they served up an excellent dinner. They are an extremely friendly pack. Life is good on the hash, wherever we are.

  • Doha H3 #1525

    16 Nisan 2025, Katar ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

It was 3 years ago, the first time I hashed in Qatar, and it was a blast. Remember, back in 2022 in COVID era, when you had to get a brain drill test to fly? Well, when I was ready to move on, I popped positive, but had no symptoms. Ended up having to isolate in a hotel room for a week, but Dildo & 50 Shades provided me with some things to help the time go by. ALSO, 2022 was a time of massive construction in Doha for upcoming World Cup, so the city was in disarray.

Fast forward three years, and the orange construction fences are all gone, the sidewalks are completed, the roads are all open, totally different than last time. Except, the hashers of Doha are still awesome.

Trail last night was a fun city trail, and as you can see lighting was not an issue. We passed down a couple dark alleyways, but nothing that required a torch. We had a pack of 10 on trail, and BPAW turned up late to join us for dinner and drinks. There is more fun to be had in the coming days.

  • Casablanca - Rick's Cafe

    25 Nisan 2025, Fas

I had been to Morocco a few times before, for work, but never as a hashing tourist. Now, with the Rabat H3 2000th hash weekend coming up, it makes for the perfect time to come back and see the sights.
What cliche to best start with, than Rick's Cafe . . . "Round up the usual suspects." Probably the most quoted film in all history, Casablanca is one of the greats. Had to watch it again in the weeks before coming back. So many great lines, and it took me almost the whole song to realize when the piano player was playing "When Time Goes By."
What's your favorite quote from Casablanca?
    "Play it again, Sam."
    "We'll always have Paris."
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."
    "Here's looking at you, kid."
"I'm shocked to find out that gambling is going on!"
"I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
    . . . and many more.
