Arrivederci Italy, Bonjour France!

Another early morning walk to the bus station, this time through the streets of Turin. Our bus to Lyon wound up leaving an hour late - so we hung out and watched a little part of the city wake up. The drive through the Alps was magnificent - hence, lots of mountain photos. The outskirts of Lyon presented a fair share of homelessness - the most we’ve seen since arriving in Europe. But the walk to our guest house was pleasant, in spite of our complete ignorance of the French language, which all cafe menus are written in (our phone translator helped a bit). We finally found an ideal cafe - a solo woman proprietor who spoke some English, veggie quiche, French bread, and apple strudel (she baked them all). Our guest house is a rustic 18th century building of stone and exposed wood beams not far from the old town of Lyon, which we will explore tomorrow.Read more
