    It was good. How?

Ashley sums it up: "I have eaten fish my whole life. My dad and father-in-law" both fish so I am used to eating freshly prepared fish. This dish just blew me away. It's so good !"

We are pretty lucky to get a table without making a reservation. The guys that we had to share a table with aren't so luck though as we made them squish up one side of the table to make room for us.

  • Shakespare's Globe

    24. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Shakespare's Globe is right next to the Tate Museum. There is multiple performances every day and they are always sold out. We walked around the place and of course visited the gift shop. :)

On the way there, we saw a "Poet for Hire" so we commissioned a poem to celebrate our 20th Anniversary......Weiterlesen

  • Borough Market

    24. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

While looking for the bus stop to go to Poppies, we stumbled into the Borough Market. It was near closing already but we did get a chance to pretty much walk around the whole market. We got to see and smell some truffles.

We also tried some of the local cider too. We were offered to taste a bunch before ordering half a pint. We settle on the most fruity and fragrant one.

  • National Gallery Part 2

    25. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We figured out why Trafalgar Square was blocked off all week. It is because of a special event today! There are short presentations from a lot of different theatrical shows going on in town. It's a bit of a show case. However, we focused on Monet and Van Gogh instead..... but we did managed to score 2 last minute Hamlet tickets in the TKTS booth though...Weiterlesen

  • Dinner at the Duck & Waffle Local

    25. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Found this on Yelp as "up and coming". It was close and we were starving. The cuisine has a certain fusion element which is quite special. The burger has a layer of small pieces of instant noodle to give it a crunch. The duck in the duck waffle has a distinct coriander taste too.
As a first timer, we were given an extra plate of asparagus too.

  • Princess Diana Memorials

    26. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The Princess Diana Memorial is made up of two parts. A children playground where only children under 12 and their parents are allowed in and the Memorial Fountain. The fountain is not really a single fountain with a big water spray, but a ring of running water with highs and lows. The weather cooled off a lot in the past couple of days, but we were caught in the morning heat. So we did not stay long...Weiterlesen

  • Victoria and Albert Museum

    26. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Victoria and Albert Museum is the second most rated museum after the British Museum. It was created by Prince Albert and was the first museum designed for the "commoners". It was the first museum to serve food and first to have public washrooms. Prince Albert wanted everyone to be inspired by the art and bring that sense of awe back to their everyday work.
The two things that we liked was the real Turner paintings and the casts of Michelangelo's David. Though showing casts in a museum was considered controversial in the days, the casts now have retained better details than the original because of age and weather erosion.

  • High Tea at Fortnum & Mason

    26. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

High Tea is what the British is famous for. So we wanted to give it a try. It is basically a buffet where you can ask for more of anything in the chosen set meal. You can also try different teas on the menu too. We even signed up for the "Tea Experience" where a tearista would introduce us to the different kinds of teas - white, yellow, Oolong, black etc. Guess what? Tea originated from China. This I kind of knew, but never clued in. I never appreciated the quality of the tea my Dad has been making me drink all my life!
That was the heaviest meal we had during our entire trip. We stayed there for over 2 hours and tasted over 10 different teas b/w the 2 of us.

  • Grenfell Tower

    27. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

In the morning, we decided to visit the site of the horrible high rise fire in North Kensington. We bumped into a few actual residents of the tower who were still shocked and were staring at the tower. A bloke told us that his father was stuck in the 10th floor for over 6 hours. Miraculously, his father was safe. They happened to live on the side that was not burnt.
He lived there for 28 years - all his life, and he told us that the exterior was only a couple of years old. The fire would have never happened before the renovation as it was all brick outside - as evident that the building is still perfectly standing and structurally sound after the fire.

  • Portobello Road

    27. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Although duped "the world's largest antique market" by the official website, it's quite a contrast between the quietness we saw on a Monday and the official pictures on Fridays and Saturdays. Nevertheless, it gives us opportunities to leisurely take photos of the pretty pastel coloured buildings.Weiterlesen

  • National Gallery Part 3

    27. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

It was raining hard so the Trafalgar Square is pretty empty for once. We did another round of National Gallery, focussing on Turner. We bumped into an art appreciation class, so we just shameless followed along. Meanwhile, we discovered works like the Four Elements by Beuckelaer and Turner's inspiration Claude.
After that, we have a late lunch/dinner at a sandwich chain Pret Manger before walking over the the Harold Pinter Theatre.

  • Harold Pinter Theatre

    27. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

A modern adaption of Hamlet. With Andrew Scott of Moriarty's frame as the Prince. The play is based on a modern setting in Denmark but the words are still Shakespearian. Andrew Scott was excellent! Loved it!
The theatre itself is pretty old, the seats are quite small, but it has many levels so that all the seats can be "close" to the stage but just higher.

  • Heading Home!

    28. Juni 2017 in England ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

The checkout is at 10am and the flight is at 5:18pm. So we decided to save on taxi, Heathrow Express or even Heathrow Connect. We took the tube from Paddington to King's Cross and from there to Heathrow. The journey took over 90 mins. But we literally only used 4 GBP because we have the last journey benefit on our Oyster Card! (i.e. we currently have negative balance on the cards :) )Weiterlesen
