Wow, Ireland just keeps on giving and never stops amazing views, villages and people.
Followed the Shannon River Estuary at low tide with long empty river beds covered with rocks, sea grass and weeds before turning inland through the Slieve Mish mountains and Connor Pass, a very steep narrow windy single lane drive with some overhanging cliffs, Janet had to close her eyes. Huge bare rocky majestic mountains with a deep green valley. Great views down into the valleys both sides. Visit to a lovely fir and beech wood with moss covered forest floor, and a short river walk near Lough Slat seated in between steep rocky crags, waterfalls and a useless rock fence most likely built by the persecuted evicted Irish given by the workhouses for 'something to do'. Passed through many old villages lined with 2 to 3 story shop buildings and pubs +++.
Driving in Ireland along the narrow roads lined with hedgerows have little passing places to stop to allow through traffic with consideration to all other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. Many large tractors on the roads at present. Drivers are very patient, courteous, always raise a wave, allow you to break into traffic anytime from side roads, to park, to allow pedestrians cross at all times, no horns or bonnet rage expressed. Even though blinkers seem 'if u feel like it' and parking and stopping anywhere and any direction. Hospitality is exceptional, always pleasant, cheerful, present, happy to serve and help, nothing is too much trouble.
