    On our way to Punta Arenas, my husband and I stopped at Rio Grande on the afternoon of November 23rd for a night stay. Because of the language barrier, it took us quite some time to understand the landlord's email instructions before we could even opened the locker and got the key! Then we realized it’s Sunday, so the streets were quiet and no shops nor restaurants were seen open! So I went out to try my luck and see if I could find something for dinner. Luckily, I ran into a lady walking her dog. Should I ask her? I don't know a single word of Spanish, and she couldn't say much English either. We used gestures and guessing, and finally she understood what I meant. She was so nice and volunteered to lead me to a nearby convenience store. They didn't have much, but there were enough for a dinner. Later I learned that this lady's name was Noelia, and she was a university professor. After dinner, following Noelia's suggestion, we went to the city center for a stroll, which was beautiful. I have been so grateful for her and her dog’s kindness and help.Læs mere
