Canterbury is an ancient cathedral city in Kent with a history spanning over 2 millennia from its origins as an Iron Age settlement and Roman town to its status as the heart of the English church.

Archbishop Thomas A’Beckett was assassinated inside the cathedral by the knights of Henry VII. His shrine turned into one of Europe’s most significant pilgrimage destinations and inspired Geoffrey Chaucer’s ‘The Canterbury Tales’.

We arrived in Canterbury early afternoon so had time to walk around the township and enjoy the gardens. Candice bought a nice tweed glasses case when we were pottering about the shops.

Our meal was a lot of fun. Tam joined us and we bantered with the boat punters as when they sailed past they would take our wine glasses from the table and pretend to have a swig.

Longish drive home along many small winding roads but worth it.
