Temples, museums & royal camping spots

      December 8, 2019 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Pursuing the theme of heritage sites, I visit an interesting natural and cultural landmark along the way : a pathway leading to several temples, cemeteries and a huge castle, overlooking the little town of Onomichi. At night, I set up my tent at the feet of the fortifications of another castle in Fukuyama. Again, the park does not close at night so many visitors probably see my tent but no one bothers me nor tries to wake me up this time.

My last hundreds of kilometers also lead me to Kurashiki, a cultural city endowed with several museums, among which an excellent art museum. I admire paintings of Picasso, Gauguin, Cezanne, Monet and even Soulages. Which feels strange so far away from France and Europe !

Even outside of castles premises, I find other nice camping spots. One morning, after I'm done packing in a park, a friendly Nepalese guy comes to talk. It is fun to discuss about Nepal from Japan, at the very end of my trip. It feels like the journey eventually came full circle !
