  • Troy

I wasn't very impressed by Troy, it was nice to see but I probably won't return in a hurry. There wasn't much to see.

  • Gallipoli (Anzac Cove)

    June 21, 2015 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

It is so hard to describe how I felt being here, I honestly didn't think it would affect me as much as it did. As I got out of the bus and began walking up towards the ANZAC wall situated in the very place our men arrived in 1915 I was overwhelmed with emotions. I had tears in my eyes as I sat on the shore looking up to the beautiful but difficult terrain that they had to endure. I sat there silently paying my respects to the men who died in the battle. I am honoured and proud to call myself an Australian. I believe that every Australian would benefit from visiting Gallipoli, just being here has given me a better understanding of what our men did for our country.

    LEST WE FORGET.

"THOSE HEROS THAT SHED THEIR BLOOD AND LOST THEIR LIVES...
YOU ARE NOW LYING THE THE SOIL OF A FRIENDLY COUNTRY.
    THEREFORE REST IN PEACE.
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JOHNNIES AND THE MEHMETS TO US WHERE THEY LIE SIDE BY SIDE HERE IN THIS COUNTRY OF OURS...
YOU, THE MOTHERS, WHO SENT THEIR SONS FROM FAR AWAY COUNTRIES WIPE AWAY YOUR TEARS; YOUR SONS ARE NOW LYING IN OUR BOSOM AND ARE IN PEACE.
AFTER HAVING LOST THEIR LIVES ON THIS LAND THEY HAVE BECOME OUR SONS AS WELL" - ATATÜRK 1934

  • Erbil Hotel

    June 22, 2015 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The Erbil Hotel was so close to everything, it was walking distance to all the main attractions in Istanbul. There was another hotel right next door that had a deal with Contiki that if we were to drink at their bar we would receive free shisha, most people took them up on their offer. They sure know how to make a fishbowl cocktail, I think it was 'Sex on the Beach' and as you can see in the photo half of the bowl was straight alcohol - I taste tested just to make sure!Read more

  • Spice Market

    June 23, 2015 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

I bought my Turkish Delight and pistachios from here. Going into a Turkish Delight store was so dangerous, they just kept feeding you every type of Turkish Delight imaginable. Everytime I wanted to try just one thing I would end up leaving feeling sick from eating too much.Read more

  • Çemberlitaş Hamani

    June 23, 2015 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The Historical Turkish Bath built by Mimar Sinan in 1584.
The Turkish Bath was definitely something everyone should experience, I have never been so comfortable being so much out of my comfort zone before.
When I arrived I was given tokens, an exfoliating mitt, a pair of underwear and the smallest of towels. I paid for the luxury package plus a manicure and pedicure. Included in the luxury package is a bath, oil massage and facial.
First thing I did was walk upstairs to the change rooms where I striped off my clothes and put on my 'lovely' underwear and towel. I walked back down stairs where the entrance of the bath area was, I did not know what to expect as I had heard so many different things. As I walked in all I could see was BOOBS everywhere! There was a large tiled cicle platform in the centre of the room with about ten topless females laying across it with about four fat women in black underwear standing around the edge bathing the women.
I was instructed to lay on the platform and wait my turn, I gracefully laid my towl down and laid on my stomach as to kind of cover myself. Soon enough it was my turn I walked over to one of the women, she snatched my towel off of me and instructed me to lay down on my back exposing my boobs making me feel very vulnerable. She poured water all over me, placed on the exfoliating mitt in my pack and began exfoliating my skin, she scrubbed pretty much every part of my body.
After I had been scrubbed and washed with soap, I was made to sit on the ground where she poured water over my head to wash the soap suds off and then proceeded to wash my hair. At this point I am still pretty much naked sitting on a step.
I exited the bath area, grabbed a dry towel and went upstairs to the massage and manicure-pedicure section. I got my manicure-pedicure first before having a massage as the masseuses were all busy.
I was called over by a masseuse where she once again snatched my towel and made me lay on the bed pretty much naked while she massaged every visible part of my body with oil. The massage was amazing, there just wasnt much privacy. The masseuse called over Lisa to say goodbye while leaving my bare ass fully exposed, Lisa definitely got more than she bargained for!
Overall let's say I enjoyed the experience, but anyone who knows me would know that I would have been extremely uncomfortable with the amount of nudity.

  • Grand Bizarre

    June 23, 2015 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The Grand Bizarre was probably my favorite place, I bought so many gifts here. Then posted them back home so I don't have to carry them around for the remainder of my trip, it ended up costing me a fair bit but the convenience was more important to me.
While in the Grand Bizarre I met Kenan, my new boyfriend - haha.
After Jessie, Lisa and myself finished shopping we went to a café that I had previously been to on another tour and got a Sahlep drink.

  • Bulgaria Border Security

    June 24, 2015 in Bulgaria ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Well, wasn't that just the biggest waste of time - probably the most intrusive border security so far. As we arrived we were all asked to exit the coach with our passports as per usual, we returned to the coach where we were asked to take all our luggage out of the bottom of the bus (that is 100+ bags) and run through the scanner. Once completed we were asked to line all the luggage up along the ground in two lines along with all the hand luggage we had on the bus. We were then instructed to walk away from the luggage so that they could run a drug dog over the bags and the bus. Nothing was found and we were then allowed to re-pack the coach. The whole process probably cost us about 2 hours of our day!Read more

  • Budapest

    June 27, 2015 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Today we were meant to get up for a walking tour that was leaving at 8:30am but because of the drinks consumed the night before there was a few of us who didn't wake up and had the tour manager knocking on our room door in the morning. It was funny because I was sharing a room with Jessie, Georgia and Ashlee. We had bunk beds, Jessie and Ashlee were on the bottom, Georgia and I were on the top. He was knocking on the door for ages and no one was answering the door, Georgia started yelling at Ashlee and Jessie but they kept ignoring the door so Georgia had to get down to open the door and if I remember correctly I think her words were 'you lazy bitches' among other words haha.
We ended up going back to sleep and waking up at about 10:00am. We weren't the only ones to have the same idea, there ended up being about 15 of us! We bought a 'hop on, hop off' bus ticket to see all the sites. It was an awesome day with almost all of my favourites, we spent the whole day talking shit and laughing. I really do not know how I am going to say goodbye in ten days.

  • Wiener Prater

    June 28, 2015 in Austria ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Tonight we went to Wiener Prater where we had schnitzel for dinner! I couldn't help but have a couple beers as well. We went on our two free rides that were included in our package after we had to pay for our rides.
I paid for a ride called 'Extasy' and I immediately regretted it, it instantly made me want to vomit. I had my eyes closed and was fighting the urge not to vomit the whole time, it felt like the longest ride ever! I got off the ride and walked straight to the bathroom, normally I whinge about having to pay 50c to use public toilets but not this time, I vomited my guts up and they deserved the 50c haha. Apart from getting sick on that one ride, it was a great night!

  • Schnaps Museum

    June 29, 2015 in Austria ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

We had a tour of the Schnaps Museum and the guide was hilarious, he definitely made the tour! After learning about the history, the types and how it is made we gotto taste test! Out limit was meant to be 3 shots but as we walked into the bar the guided told us that no one would be counting. I think I had more than 10 shots range from absinthe to liquors.Read more
