    After visiting the Liberty Bell, I went across the road to Independence Hall, again, to visit the original US Congress and Senate buildings. This was the spot where the first president George Washington oversaw proceedings and the transfer of power from him to John Adams occurred.

    Also interesting was the fact that the US replaced the British monarchy with a republic, but then adorned their new government building with picture of two European monarchs, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. This was due to the fact that the French government had supported the US during the war of independence. However, the relationship deteriorated when the US decided not to support France in the war against the United Kingdom.
