    First steps in India!

    Well I have arrived in India for a two week tour of Rajasthan (the land of the kings), it will be an amazing experience! First impressions are the juxtaposition between the brand new metro system, and the dire poverty on the streets!   • Jama Masjid

    First stop on my first day in New Delhi is Jama Masjid, a Muslim mosque and the largest mosque in the whole of India. The area outside of the mosque is called Chandni Chowk, and as you can see from the pictures it was very, very intense, from the smells, to the cars, to the people, to the dust... it was a LOT to take in!Read more

  • Red Fort

    Next stop is the Red Fort of New Delhi, this imposing building was built in 17th century and covers an area of over 2.5KM. The grounds were absolutely stunning, mixed inside is a large number of museums.Read more

  • President's House

    Top of the Rajpath is the President’s house, built by the British to show their colonial power, this cluster of government buildings is home to India’s Parliament, presidents house and foreign ministry!Read more

  • India Gate

    Final stop of the day before heading back to the hotel is the India Gate. The gate is a war memorial unveiled in 1933, it stands as a memorial for the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War One. Written on the building is the names of just 13,500 of those soldiers.Read more

  • Sikh Temple

    Sikh Temple on old Delhi. We were shown around the multiple buildings of the temple and then we were able to help in the kitchens of the GIANT canteen. Everyday they serve 50,000 people, they rely on the generosity of people to help make the food and also of the wealthy to pay for the food, as the meals are completely free!

    I helped make the roti bread, from rolling the bread, to then cooking it on the hot plate and open flames, it really was a fantastic experience!

  • Tuk Tuk ride to Connaught Place

    This afternoon we are doing a walking tour of old Delhi including the most important thing... food! But to get over to the old side of Delhi we took a Tuk Tuk ride through the streets, it is such a great way to see the city, with open sides you really get to experience the city.Read more

  • Ghandi's Memorial

    First stop on our tour is the final home of Ghandi, needing little background he was assassinated shortly after India gained their indepe from the United Kingdom. It was at his home when Ghandi left to give evening prayers in the garden that he was murdered. The memorial gives his final steps in the form of stones, and you are able to go inside his home and see where he worked, slept and greeted guests. There had been a number of attempts on Ghandi’s life throughout his time as India’s freedom fighter. On the day of the final attempt, Ghandi took a different route to evening prayers, it is believed that just how he changed the course of India, he too changed the course of his own life in order to meet his death.Read more

  • Ugrasen ki Baoli

    Next stop on the tour of Ugrasen Ki Baoli, or in English it is called a step well. Created in order to store water, these are very, very deep, which acted as means to keep water safe during the heat of summer. Due to their unique shape they also acted as a way to collect rain water!Read more

  • Delhi --> Agra

    Next stop on the trip is Delhi —🚞—> Agra, taking a 2 hour express train we should arrive in Agra around 10:30.

  • Madhogarh Village

    After exploring our palace for the night we were taken for a walk around the village below, it was a wonderful way to see a different side of India, one which is a world away from the cities!

  • Amber Fort- Jaipur

    This imposing fort really was something that could have inspired the likes of Game of Thrones, the castle is full of symbols from the royal family, with beautiful rock painting and stunning architecture... the place was huge, and only less than 20% open!Read more

  • Jaipur!!

    We’ve made it to the next major city Jaipur! We had a short walk around the central pink city and then went for lunch at a lovely roof top hotel! I tried the paneer curry, it was great, and certainly something I’d make at home!Read more

  • Morning Lasi!

    Morning cup of Lasi just outside the pink city- this is a sweet yoghurt like drink, they mostly have it at breakfast though during the summer it is had frequently to help cool down!
