    Te Araroa - Tag 98

    🇩🇪 Tag 98: 31,55 km Arrowtown - Queenstown

    Heute ging es in die Adrenalin-Hochburg Neuseelands, Queenstown. Von Arrowtown führte der Weg über ein schön angelegtes Golf-Ressort zum Lake Hayes. Um diesen hat man herrliche Ausblicke auf die Bergwelt. In Frankton angekommen hört man Helikopter, kleine und große Flugzeuge, der Rummel Queenstowns kündigt sich an. Doch zuerst läuft man einige Kilometer am wunderschönen Lake Wakatipu entlang. Bevor man ins Zentrum Queenstowns gelangt, lohnt sich ein Abstecher in die Queenstown Gardens.

    🇺🇸 Day 98: 31.55 km Arrowtown - Queenstown

    Today I walked to New Zealand’s adrenaline capital, Queenstown. From Arrowtown the path led over a beautifully landscaped golf resort to Lake Hayes. It offers wonderful views of the mountains around. When you arrive in Frankton you can hear helicopters, small and large planes, the hustle and bustle of Queenstown announces itself. But first you walk a few kilometers along the beautiful Lake Wakatipu. Before you get to the center of Queenstown, it’s worth taking a detour to the Queenstown Gardens.    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 99: 24 km Greenstone - Taipo Hut

    Mit dem Shuttle ging es von Queenstown um den Lake Wakatipu zum Start des Trails auf die andere Seite des Sees. Es ging entlang des Greenstone Rivers mit zahlreichen Wasserfällen und herrlichen Ausblicken. Nach der Pause auf der Greenstone Hut ging es über eine schöne Hochebene und herrlichen Bergen zur Taipo Hut. Leider kam heute auch wieder Matsch und Sumpf zurück, auf der Hochebene gab es leicht nasse Füße 🦶🙈

    🇺🇸 Day 99: 24 km Greenstone - Taipo Hut

    With a shuttle I went from Queenstown around Lake Wakatipu to the Stadt of the trail on the other side of the lake. From there it went along the Greenstone River with multiple waterfalls and phenomenal views. After a break at Greenstone Hut the trail continued across a beautiful plateau and nice mountains to Taipo Hut. Unfortunately, also mud and swamp returned today, it was easy to get wet feet on the plateau.🦶🙈    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 100: 47,8 km Taipo Hut - Kiwi Burn Hut

    Unglaublich, jetzt bin ich schon 100 Tage gewandert. 🙈 Was der Körper doch alles leisten kann 🥰 Von der Taipo Hut führte der Weg über Graslandschaft zu den Mavora Lakes. Was für eine Traumkulisse. Berge und Seen sind in diesem Land einfach eine geniale Kombi. Da ein Wetterumschwung droht, wollte ich nicht am See campen, sondern zur nächsten Hütte weiter. Leider musste ich im Wald dann über sehr viele umgefallene Bäume klettern 🙈 Dafür bin ich heute Nacht alleine auf der Hütte 🥰

    🇺🇸 Day 100: 47.8 km Taipo Hut - Kiwi Burn Hut

    Unbelievable, now I’ve already hiked for 100 days. 🙈 Amazing what the body can give if needed 🥰 From Taipo Hut the trail leads across grassland to the Mavora Lakes. What an awesome scenery. Mountains and lakes are in this country just a perfect combination. As a weather change might come, I didn’t want to camp at the lake but continued to the next hut. Unfortunately, I had to climb across many fallen trees in the forest. 🙈 But I am alone tonight in the hut 🥰    Baca selengkapnya

    Te Araroa - Tag 101

    1 Februari 2024, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    🇩🇪 Tag 101: 42 km Kiwi Burn Hut - Lower Princhester Hut

    Nach dem Regen der letzten Nacht war es heute sicherer, 5 km zurück zu gehen und den Mararoa River über eine Brücke zu überqueren. Die nächsten 30 km verliefen auf einer Schotterstraße entlang von Farmland mit wenigen Aussichten. Mittlerweile bekomme ich schon alle 2 Stunden Wandererhunger 🤷‍♂️ Da kam der Foodtruck gerade recht. Von da waren es noch 5 km zur heutigen Hütte.

    🇺🇸 Day 101: 42 km Kiwi Burn Hut - Lower Princhester Hut

    After last night’s rain it was more secure to walk 5 km back and cross the Mararoa River on a bridge. The next 30 km went on a gravel road along farm land with few nice views. Meanwhile I get every 2 hours hiker hunger 🤷‍♂️ So the food truck was perfect. From there, there were only 5 km to today’s hut.    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 102: 32,8 km Lower Princhester Hut - Lower Wairaki Hut

    Gestern habe ich wegen Regen einen Tag Pause eingelegt. Zu Beginn sah es heute besser aus. Die Wolken hingen morgens noch im Wald, dann kam die Sonne raus. Doch dann regnete es die meiste Zeit mit kurzen Unterbrechungen. Als sich die Wolken kurz verzogen, sah man schneebedeckte Gipfel. Passend zu meinem Kältegefühl 🥶 Der letzte Waldabschnitt war dann noch super matschig, teilweise knietief 🙈

    🇺🇸 Day 102: 32.8 km Lower Princhester Hut - Lower Wairaki Hut

    Due to rain I had a break day yesterday. At the beginning it looked better today. In the morning, the clouds were still hanging in the forest, then the sun came out. But then it rained most of the time with short breaks. When the clouds moved away for a moment, you could see snow covered peaks. Suitable to me feeling cold 🥶 The last part through the forest was super muddy, partially knee deep. 🙈    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 103: 39,7 km Lower Wairaki Hut - Birchwood Shearer Station

    Nach Regen kommt meist Sonne… zumindest in Neuseeland. 🌞 Von der Hütte ging es erst mal ein gutes Stück nach oben. Vom höchsten Punkt gab es eine herrliche Sicht auf die Ebene. Allerdings hat da oben auch ordentlich der Wind geblasen, sodass ich kaum gerade gehen konnte. Nach dem Abstieg ging es auf und ab über die Schaf- und Kuhweiden der Mt Linton Station, bis ich das heutige Ziel, die Birchwood Shearer Station erreicht habe. Auf Bild 9 sieht man die Hügel, die mich noch von der südlichen Küste trennen.

    🇺🇸 Day 103: 39.7 km Lower Wairaki Hut - Birchwood Shearer Station

    After rain there usually comes sunshine… at least in New Zealand. 🌞 From the hut it was a long walk up. From the highest point there was a wonderful view of the plain. However, the wind was really blowing up there, so I could hardly walk straight. After the descent I went up and down over the sheep and cow pastures of Mt Linton Station until I reached today’s destination, Birchwood Shearer Station.     🇩🇪 Tag 104: 28,6 km Birchwood Shearer Station - Merriview Hut

    Gleich zu Beginn ging es heute auf den höchsten Punkt. Typisch für Neuseeland einfach kerzengerade nach oben. 🙈 Von oben hatte ich einen schönen Blick auf die Berge der letzten Tage. Der Abstieg verlief durch hübschen Wald. Je weiter ich an die Küste komme, desto flacher wird die Landschaft. Gegen Ende führte der Weg noch durch weniger schönen wirtschaftlich genutzten Fichtenwald.

    🇺🇸 Day 104: 28.6 km Birchwood Shearer Station - Merriview Hut

    Right at the beginning today the trail went up to the highest point. Typically for New Zealand, it’s straight up. 🙈 From above I had a beautiful view of the mountains of the last few days. The descent went through pretty forest. The further I get to the coast, the flatter the landscape becomes. Towards the end the path led through a less beautiful commercially used spruce forest.     🇩🇪 Tag 105: 32,2 km Merriview Hut - Martin‘s Hut

    Longwood Forest ist matschig, sagte man. Ich sage matschig, matschiger, am matschigsten. 🙈 Aber von Beginn an: trotz Regenvorhersage war es heute Morgen trocken. Deshalb bin ich aufgebrochen. Schon auf dem Weg hinauf zum Bald Hill wurde es matschig. Von oben konnte man Bluff sehen (Bild 4), das ich in drei Tagen erreiche. Der restliche Weg über den Longwood wurde mit Regen dann aber so richtig matschig, teilweise bis zum Oberschenkel. Übernachtet wird heute in der historischen Martin‘s Hut.

    🇺🇸 Day 105: 32.2 km Merriview Hut - Martin‘s Hut

    Longwood Forest is muddy, they said. I say muddy, muddier, muddiest. 🙈 But from the beginning: despite rain forecast the morning was dry. So I started walking. Already on the way up to Bald Hill it got muddy. From the top I could see Bluff (picture 4), which I will reach in 3 days. The remaining path across Longwood became really muddy due to rain, partially up to the upper leg. Tonight I sleep in the historic Martin‘s Hut.    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 106: 32,4 km Martin‘s Hut - Riverton

    5:30… ich wache auf und höre, wie der Regen langsam nachlässt. Ich schaue später raus und sehe blauen Himmel. Und dann realisiere ich, dass es noch drei Tage nach Bluff sind. Da machen selbst die vier Stunden Matsch nichts mehr. An der Turnbull’s Hut erwartet mich Trail Magic in Form von kalten Getränken 🥰 Die zweite Tageshälfte wandere ich entlang des Colac Bay Strandes. Somit endet der Trail, wie er angefangen hat: mit Salz in der Luft. 😊 Vom Strand gibt es schöne Blicke auf Stewart Island.

    🇺🇸 Day 106: 32.4 km Martin‘s Hut - Riverton

    5:30… I wake up and hear the rain slowly easing. I look out later and see blue sky. And then I realize it’s only three days to Bluff. Even four hours of mud don’t matter then. Trail magic awaits me at Turnbull’s Hut in the form of cold drinks 🥰 The second half of the day I hike along Colac Bay beach. So the trail ends as it began: with salt in the air. 😊 There are beautiful views of Stewart Island along the beach.    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 107: 35,5 km Riverton - Invercargill

    Der vorletzte Wandertag fing perfekt an. Bei herrlicher Sonne ging ich am schönen Hafen von Riverton entlang zu einem gemütlichen Frühstück. Danach ging es etwa 25 km am Strand entlang. Da es heute sehr stürmisch war, wechselte das Wetter wie im April: Sonne, Regen, Sonne, Regen… der letzte Abschnitt vom Strand nach Invercargill war sehr langweilig. Hier in der Stadt ist sehr viel los, da aktuell die Burt Munro Challenge stattfindet, das größte Motorrad Event im Süden. 🙈

    🇺🇸 Day 107: 35.5 km Riverton - Invercargill

    The penultimate day of hiking started perfectly. In the glorious sunshine I walked along Riverton’s beautiful harbor for a leisurely breakfast. Then I continued about 25 km along the beach. Since it was very stormy today, the weather changed like in April: sun, rain, sun, rain... the last section from the beach to Invercargill was very boring. There’s a lot going on here in town as the Burt Munro Challenge, the biggest motorcycle event in the south, is currently taking place. 🙈    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Tag 108: 36,25 km Invercargill - Bluff

    Der letzte Schritt ist getan auf diesem langen Marsch. 🍾 Mehr als 3.000 km, 108 Wandertage, 12 Pausentage. 3 Paar Wanderschuhe. 3 Wanderstöcke. 🙈 Erleichterung - Bedauern. Staunen über die atemberaubende Natur - Frust über Matsch im Wald. Tränen der Freude - Tränen der Traurigkeit. Viel Wanderlust, aber auch mal Kampf. Jetzt muss ich erst mal verarbeiten, was ich erlebt habe. Danke an alle, die mich ein Stück auf dem Weg begleitet haben. Danke an meinen Körper, dass er mich so weit getragen hat. Das Ende für den Moment, aber vielleicht der Anfang von was Großem. DANKE 🥰

    🇺🇸 Day 108: 36.25 km Invercargill - Bluff

    The last step has been taken on this long march. 🍾 More than 3,000 km, 108 hiking days, 12 rest days. 3 pairs of hiking shoes. 3 hiking sticks. 🙈 Relief - regret. Amazement about the breathtaking nature - frustration about the mud in the forest. Tears of joy - tears of sadness. A lot of wanderlust, but also sometimes struggle. Now I have to process what I experienced. Thanks to everyone who walked with me some parts of the trail. Thank you to my body for carrying me this far.     Ackers Point Leuchtturm

    🇩🇪 Nach dem Wandern ist vor dem Wandern 😊 Nach einem ruhigen Vormittag habe ich die Fähre nach Stewart Island genommen. Hier möchte ich die nächsten Tage noch ein wenig durch den Wald wandern und hoffentlich die Chance bekommen, Kiwis und andere Vögel in der freien Natur zu sehen. Unerwartet habe ich meine beiden Lieblingsösterreicher wieder getroffen. 🥰 Gemeinsam sind wir dann noch ne kleine Runde zum Ackers Point Leuchtturm gegangen. Danach gab es in Oban laut @holy.sheep.neuseeland die besten Fish&Chips Neuseelands. 🤤

    🇺🇸 After hiking is before hiking 😊 After a quiet morning, I took the ferry to Stewart Island. I would like to hike through the forest a bit over the next few days and hopefully get the chance to see kiwis and other birds in the wild. Unexpectedly, I met my two favorite Austrians again. 🥰 Together we went for a short walk to Ackers Point Lighthouse.     4 Tage auf dem Rakiura Great Walk

    🇩🇪 Ich komme gerade zurück von vier Tage wandern auf Rakiura/Stewart Island. Es ging von Oban 2 Tage entlang der Küste auf dem Great Walk zur North Arm Hut und von dort dann rüber nach Mason Bay. Zurück ging es dann über den unteren Arm des Great Walks. Gestern Nacht konnte ich dann auch tatsächlich noch einen Kiwi erspähen. 🥰 Mason Bay ist auf jeden Fall einen Abstecher wert 👍

    🇺🇸 I just got back from four days hiking on Rakiura/Stewart Island. It went from Oban for 2 days along the coast on the Great Walk to the North Arm Hut and from there over to Mason Bay. I then went back along the lower arm of the Great Walk. Last night I was actually able to spot a kiwi. 🥰 Mason Bay is definitely worth a visit 👍    Baca selengkapnya

    Ulva Island

    🇩🇪 Bevor es zurück auf die Südinsel geht, bin ich mit @ulva_island_ferry_ hinüber nach Ulva Island gefahren. Ulva Island ist frei von invasiven Schädlingen, daher kann man dort sehr viele Vögel beobachten. Absolut genial. Am Strand kämpften Seelöwen miteinander. Außerdem sahen wir Pinguine, Kakas, Moreporks und vieles mehr. Ein schöner kleiner Ausflug. Später ging es mit dem Flugzeug zurück nach Invercargill.

    🇺🇸 Before heading back to the South Island, I went with @ulva_island_ferry_ over to Ulva Island. Ulva Island is free of invasive predators, so you can see a lot of birds there. Absolutely awesome. Sea lions fought with each other on the beach. We also saw penguins, kakas, moreporks and much more. A nice little trip. Later I took the plane back to Invercargill.     Zur Podcast Aufnahme nach Dunedin

    🇩🇪 Mit dem Intercity Bus kam ich heute in Dunedin an. Neben Wellington bisher die zweite Stadt, die mir hier gefällt. Zahlreiche historische Gebäude verleihen der Stadt Charme. Morgen schaue ich mir mehr an. Am Nachmittag war ich Podcast Gast im Gewächshaus von @holy.sheep.neuseeland. 🎙️ Seid gespannt auf die Folge, die schon in wenigen Wochen erscheinen wird.

    🇺🇸 I arrived in Dunedin today with the intercity bus. Next to Wellington, this is the second city I like here. Numerous historical buildings give the city charm. I’ll take a closer look tomorrow.     Mount Pleasant

    🇩🇪 In Christchurch sollte man den Mount Pleasant erklimmen. Entweder man wandert komplett hoch oder man nimmt zur Unterstützung die Christchurch Gondola auf den Mount Cavendish und läuft dann die restlichen Meter. Das Panorama über Lyttelton und Christchurch lohnt garantiert. 🥰

    🇺🇸 In Christchurch you should climb Mount Pleasant. Either you hike all the way up or you take the Christchurch Gondola up Mount Cavendish for support and then walk the remaining meters. The panorama over Lyttelton and Christchurch is definitely worth it. 🥰    Baca selengkapnya

    🇩🇪 Das internationale antarktische Zentrum gibt einen Einblick in das Leben der Antarktis: Fahrt mit einem Raupenfahrzeug, Pinguine, Forschung, Arbeit der Huskys, Simulation eines Eissturms (-17 °C) etc.
