  • A Day visiting several Retirees

    17 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Glenn and I made the drive up to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah, Oklahoma—a peaceful retirement community nestled among the rolling hills, where several CAM/Avant retirees have made their home - a of place that seems to hold years of faithful service and rich history.

We were warmly greeted and spent a truly delightful time together with two couples and two singles.

Conversation was fast and filled with laughter, shared memories, and a deep sense of connection that comes from years of serving in ministry around the world.

Jack and Terresa Jones joined us all the way from Kansas City, bringing with them an infectious joy and heartfelt enthusiasm. They have graciously stepped forward to help care for and stay connected with retirees across the Midwest and Oklahoma. Their willingness to serve in this new season was both encouraging and inspiring to everyone.

Each person there carried a rich history of ministry. Bob and Donna Rice shared stories from their years in Panama and Guatemala, while the Hedlunds reflected on their time serving in Ecuador. Dick Kryder spoke of his work in Honduras and later in California, and Carolyn Johnson served in Guatemala. Some folks had memory challenges while others recounted stories of crossing borders with small children and difficulties of being robbed along the side of the Central American hiway.

Listening to them was like opening a window into decades of faithful obedience, sacrifice, and God’s provision in many corners of the world.

We moved into a nearby conference room where Jack and Terresa shared more of their personal journey—their story, their calling, and their deep love for Avant retirees. As they spoke, it was clear that this was more than a role for them; it was a genuine calling placed on their hearts.

The afternoon became a sacred time of listening and reflection, as story after story pointed back to God’s unwavering faithfulness. It was a beautiful reminder that while seasons of service may change, the impact of a life lived for Him continues on, touching hearts and building His kingdom in ways both seen and unseen.

    Great is Thy Faithfulness!

  • Part 2 of visiting the Retirees

    17 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

We continued our journey from Go Ye Village to Siloam Springs, Arkansas—a drive of just over an hour.

I rode with the Joneses, and along the way we had a stimulating conversation about how best to encourage and care for the retirees. We shared helpful insights on asking thoughtful questions, while also remembering the importance of simply listening well. They also spoke with anticipation about an upcoming cruise in September.

When we arrived, we gathered around the kitchen table in the home of Bob and Sylvia Lloyd. It was a special time. Sylvia, now 93, has an extraordinary memory. She warmly recounted her courtship with Bob and their years of ministry throughout Latin America. Considering the stroke she suffered about two years ago, which affected her right eye, her clarity and recall were remarkable. She remembered names, dates, and fellow servants from their time with CAM in Panama and Mexico with vivid detail.

It was truly a delightful visit. We closed our time together in prayer before continuing on our journey.

We had just learned that Ellen and her family were spending Spring Break week in Branson, Missouri, so we made our way there for 1 day and 2 nights.

What a joy it was to spend time with Sylvia and Bob—faithful servants of the Lord who have dedicated their lives to sharing the Gospel

We stopped to say “hello” to the Hansens as we were leaving town.

  • A day with gkids

    18 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

We arrived by surprising the gkids! Loved it.

On Wednesday we drove to the welcome center where there’s a kids friendly museum and movie explaining the local history and the challenges of building a dam.

Then we drove over to the Branson Landing that had an hourly water and light show, however it was closed for maintenance.

Next stop was the creation evidence museum. Small but very informative.

Next stop was the Time share pitch that included lunch sandwiches for the kids also. We walked out with out spending any money or signing up for anything. And 200.00 in our pocket plus a 3 day cruise.

  • 75 years Northwest Bible Church

    23 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

We left Tyler before sunrise driving the RV with the bicycles attached on the back.

We attended church and dad’s old SS class. Met Patti Davidson who enjoyed hearing about Neil’s bicycle trip.

Glenn and I drove over to White Rock Lake. I made salad for lunch. We changed into our bicycle gear. Several folks called us about the RV. (We had 3 For Sale signs taped to the window)

It was very windy, so I rode 1/2 way around the lake.

Next was the evening service celebrating NBC’s 75th anniversary. I talked to Linda and Laura Sherman. Also ran into Tim Campbell. Beautiful night. God honoring celebrating Gods faithfulness. There were stories and several video productions including Bill Lawrence’s influence when he was interim pastor.

  • 3Score Luncheon and retiree visit

    24 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We left at 8am and headed to Grand Prairie to pick up Janie for 3Score at NBC. Nice event. Sat with Val and Jack Cox. Talked to Una, Ban and Patty Wolfe plus others.

After dropping off Janie, we tried to see Karen Hubbard but did see David Summers.

I called up Virginia Haynes and we took a small side trip to meet her. What a wonderful time to connect with her and hear her story.

Virginia and her husband served in Ecuador. Serving right there where the 5 Americans were martyred by Auca Indians on January 8, 1956. Virginia arrived with 2 little kids and had 2 additional children. She expressed had she cried often when the oldest two were sent out to boarding school in Quito. I could really sense her love and commitment to sharing gospel. What a privilege to meet her and have a short prayer as we left. Virginia is 96 years old.

  • Bob Sanford’s service

    26 Mac, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

Well this is the 3rd time in 5 days that we have driven into Dallas.

I drove the RV and Glenn drove his Rav 4. After the service Sherrie drove the Rav for Darla to use next week when they are in Houston for Rick’s appointment at MD Anderson.

The memorial service was God honoring. All 10 grandkids spoke. Very good.

After the luncheon we headed over to Texas Longhorn to see Michelle and her work.

We drove back to Tyler arriving before dark. Tired.
