    Bill and Janis finally here

    July 30, 2021 in Guatemala ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

Bill and Janis had a L.O.N.G. journey here. Once boarding at DFW, they sat on the plane for 1 hour before they had to change planes because of engine problems.

So instead of arriving at 1:30pm, they arrived at 6:15pm.

Glenn and I were at the Parque Las America’s mall and when the plane was delayed even further, we drove over to Oakland Mall to watch “Jungle Cruise” in 4D. That’s where the seats move and vibrate plus viewing thru 3D glasses. That was an experience.

We immediately drove to Media Cancha for steak dinner!

Now back home. Off to Antigua tomorrow.

As we were driving to the airport I realized that I was kinda giddy. Why? It’s been over 1.5 years since we’ve had someone here to visit us or a ministry team. That’s way too long. I miss people. So this will be a special time have Bill and Janis here for 10 days.

Janis wrote on her FB page “Our home away from home for the next 9 days with our friends Glenn and Judy❤️ Loving the cool temps, the flowers and the patio views!”

  • Day in Antigua

    July 31, 2021 in Guatemala ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

We are spending a day here. Parked car at Philippi’s house and walked through the walkway to Casa Domingo.

Janis wrote on her FB page “Today we set out to see the ancient city of Antiqua Guatemala. Such a beautiful drive. Had no idea that Guatemala was so mountainy and cool. The weather is so nice compared to Texas heat right now. I’m glad we had an experienced driver AND someone who knew the culture and where to go and where NOT to go. Saw lots of pretty architecture and flowers of every color today. Fun day!!”Read more

  • Nancy’s shop in San Antonio Palopo

    August 3, 2021 in Guatemala ⋅ 🌧 72 °F

It’s always fun to have Nancy dress Bill and Janis up.

Janis wrote on FB “Today we took a road trip around the lake to the town of San Antonio Palopo. Once again we enjoyed beautiful winding roads with different views of the volcanos and gorgeous foliage. We visited a pottery shop, a weaving shop where the owner dressed us up in authentic Mayan outfits and then ate lunch at a hotel high up the mountain with a breathtaking view.”

And at Nancy’s place “The next stop was to visit “Nancy”, a tiny Mayan woman who owned a weaving shop where they wove fabric and made native dresses and attire. She dressed Bill and I up in customary outfits. I took WAY too many pictures but it was so fun (although hot😅)”

And a 3rd FB posting “Next was Bill’s turn at getting dressed up. He liked his shirt so much he bought it. I bought the hair ribbon too but I doubt I could ever fix it back like Nancy did.”

and at the pottery shop - "First stop was the pottery shop where the women hand painted each piece. They are all so artistic. Such a beautiful country with beautiful people and culture."

  • Lunch at Casa Palopo

    August 3, 2021 in Guatemala ⋅ 🌧 72 °F

    Best view for lunch

And Janis wrote on FB “Our final stop of the day was at the beautiful Casa Palopo Hotel nestled up the mountains overlooking the lake. COVID has kept lots of tourists away so none of the hotel restaurants were crowded. We were the only ones at lunch today and our waiter spoiled us with attention.”

Also Janis wrote about her last day in Panajachel - "Last morning to wake up to this beauty. Headed back to Guatemala City today. I will miss the cool mornings, the volcanos on the horizon, the colorful flowers, singing birds, squirrels playing and the sound of Tuk Tuks driving down the street. Thank you Judy Marr Stewart and Glenn Stewart for sharing your homes with us and letting us experience Guatemala in such a personal way. I have loved every minute!"

  • Guatemala highlights and missionaries

    August 6, 2021 in Guatemala ⋅ 🌧 72 °F

After SETECA, we tried to get into the public cemetery so they could see the city dump. No luck.

We drove through the Cayala (European style) mall with cobbled stone streets.

Earlier in the morning, we met Marievelia Berger at the radio station, then Dianna Stoddard in the parking lot and Jean Sywulka on the seminary grounds.

We had lunch at the Chinese restaurant and had a good visit with Bob and Ann Henriques while taking a stroll to look at their garden. Beautiful fern.

Janis wrote "On Friday we drove through the Cayala shopping Center and through some nicer areas of town. Saw a military school AND the American Embassy. Saw lots of murals, statues, unique architecture."
