Summer 2020 trip

Taking advantage of Covid-19, we purchased a used RV, named Magnolia. This was our home. We watched God show up with divine appointments along the 7,873 miles in 111 days. To God be the Glory! もっと詳しく
  • Covid 19 testing

    2020年7月13日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

On June 22 we had lunch with Keith and Debbie Wilkerson in Longview,Texas.

    Then...

On July 4 Keith had fever and flu-like symptoms. Only lasted a few days.

    And....

On July 10 Keith was confirmed positive for COVID-19

    So....

Today (taking all precautions) we went thru a free drive-thru testing location in Gibson City at the general hospital with Ellen, Luke and family. It was a simple 5 second swap up each nostril. Painless.

Now Glenn says “now we NOSE what we did on David’s 9th birthday!”

4 hours later we all received the Good news that we were all NEGATIVE. Thankful.

Still praying for all those with COVID-19.

  • Leaving Fisher, Illinois

    2020年7月17日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

Well, its a WRAP! Grammie Camp 2.0 is in the books.
We were "boon docking" in Ellen's drive way for the past 7 days.
We slept in the RV, but used the facilities in the house.
One night we had ALL 4 kids in the RV.
Ellen and Luke got away for a few days.
Glenn was always working on small details of their house. He organized all the bicycles in the garage, hung up a ladder, swept out the garage. He also was under the kitchen sink and tightening up the faucet to make it more functional.

The washing machine was his biggest challenge. He looked at every option and even had a technician out to give him the diagnosis. Conclusion: purchase a new one. So on Friday, Glenn, David and Luke drove into Champaign, looked at different stores, and came back with a brand new washing machine. Now the task to install it.

I know Ellen will enjoy this!

  • Battery, Tires and still smiling

    2020年7月27日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Woke up and it was raining as we were getting ready to leave Avant. The battery in the Scion was dead. Glenn has to jump it.

We pulled out of the parking lot just before 7am. We had breakfast has a rest stop.

We purchased a new battery at the Auto Zone in St Joseph then got on our way.

In Hiawatha we pulled over at the Walmart to look at the tires on the dolly. I found a tire repair place after the 2nd try in this small town. The valve was leaking.

Because it was taking too long, we left the trailer there to get repaired and I drove 20 more miles to Seneca for Bailey’s RV so we could drive to Pawnee City and see Glenn’s cousins.

I didn’t complain. I just rolled with the punches. Part of RV LIfe

  • RVing with Ellen and 4 grandaughters

    2020年7月30日, アメリカ ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Ellen drove on Tuesday from Illinois and stayed with us at Bailey’s RV park. Since it was Tuesday, we purchased 4 hamburgers from Sonic. Buy 1 get 1 free. We enjoyed them at the picnic pavilion at the RV park.

Wednesday we had to drive back to Hiawatha to pick up the dollie that was being repaired. It was raining pretty hard. We continued on hiway 36 to Belleville then turned south to Salina and the interstate on to wakeeney KOA.

We arrived just in time before high winds were rocking the RV.

I told the girls that I wanted Ellen to have a vacation and we put down for bed.

Emily sleeps on the couch with Ellen. The baby sleeps inside shower in our room and Libby and Lucy sleep in the bedding above the cab.

Thursday, we stayed in the RV park. We went for walks and took a nap. We had a ZOOM call to the Honduras field that lasted for 1 1/2 hours.

I made a pot roast in my 4qt crockpot and we had that for supper out on the picnic table.

Good day. Kinda crowded with 3 adults, an infant, 3, 5, and 7 year olds ALL in a 30 RV. But I would not trade it for anything.

  • Monument Rocks

    2020年7月31日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

Beautiful! Out in the middle of no where.

Ellen, Emily and Annie stayed back at the RV park. It was just 1.5 hours away but well worth it!

  • Driving Day to East Denver

    2020年7月31日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

We left KOA Kamp at a good hour and drove 45 minutes to Oakley.

There is a Sonic drive through that has picnic table and playground. Dad got burritos and French toast for everyone.

I was still driving Ellen’s van with the baby and Libby.

About 3/4 of the way, we stopped do I could get in Magnolia (name for the RV BEcause we bought it in Magnolia, Texas) and get back to my bed and S.L.E.E.P.

The KOA in Strasburg is about 45 minutes from Karen. We had a picnic lunch then Ellen left with the baby to Karen’s apartment and another visitor. The 3 oldest kids played in playground. They were filthy. So they all took a shower, put their Pjs on and we marched back to the RV.

We are kinda out of food, plus we haven’t made the bed back into a table, so I fixed instant oatmeal and the all stood around Glenn and the tray to eat dinner so as not to drop any food on the floor.

We were watching PBSkids, when the cartoon characters were not teaching good morals ( example: the kid said “hey what you need to do is change the parents mind by blah blah blah..” Totally wrong. So we turned on some piano music and Libby was fast asleep. Sorry Ken Royer, I think it was the musical saw that did it!😄

Again, we are giving mom vacation time and that means all 3 girls go to bed, no talking, just sleeping...and it’s worked 3 days in a row. Ellen appreciates it.

  • Couple of FULL Day

    2020年8月6日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

After dropping of Ellen near the airport, we connected with sherrie as she was flying in from Seattle. We talked about side of Schlotzskys in the cell phone lot for well over 2 hours.

On Tuesday, Karen and Thomas drove out to KOA to visit us. Glenn fixed breakfast. I had a Zoom call in the morning and another one with all the missionaries from Guatemala.

Church with Karen and Thomas then lunch at Burnt Ends. We tried to see Darla Denver but it just didn’t work out. Hopefully we can see the Mockler boys on Saturday.

  • Picnic lunch heading to Utah

    2020年8月18日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

    After a quick visit with David Tyree in Steamboat Spring, he encouraged us to continue on US 40 towards Utah. (David was in the high school youth group with me at Noth Highlands Bible Church);

We had wanted to take 70 through Glenwood Springs to go by and see Stephen, our newphew in Grand Junction, but instead, we took US 40throuogh Steamboat Springs and over into Utah.

We had a lovely lunch along the side of the road. Glenn found a "cut-out" along the road. I made sandwiches while Glenn watched. Right after that, I called KOA in Vernal and made reservations.

The scenery was different each mile along the route. Beautiful.

Once we got to KOA, we jumped into the pool. Had a nice conversation with a man and his son who were from Florida and traveling through Colorado and Utah for 3 weeks.

I made a salad for Glenn for dinner and I had popcorn.

  • McCunes in Driggs, Idaho

    2020年8月20日, アメリカ ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

It took us all day to get to the tiny town of Driggs. We had a picnic lunch at a rest stop and purchased some groceries at Walmart to my my Mexican casserole dish.

Ken grilled steaks, fresh corn and potatoes. We ate out on the patio.

Wow, we laughed and laughed and told old Bolivian stories. Ken and Lori served as missionaries with us back from 1986-1994. Katie and Karen were the same age and played together. Andy was just a little older than Ellen.

Glenn and Ken worked together on the SAMAIR airplanes. I would flight follow for Ken with the ham radio.

We look forward to having a great time here. The RV is set up in their back yard.
