  • Truck Stop just past Red Bluff

    March 23, 2021 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 57 °F

Drove past Mt. Shasta today. Not as pretty as Rainier but an impressive volcano. Stopped at a rest stop at about 4:30. Took a couple of short walks with Jay and then laid in my bed for a bit but decided after my rest that I would drive to thee next rest stop and get gas and a few supplies on the way....but the next rest stop was closed so decided to stay at a Pilot Truck Stop.

I can go inside in the morning and get a few things but will need to find a place with pet supplies too

  • The Truth about Death Valley

    March 26, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Death Valley National Park; not what I expected. There are no cactus or trees or anything. So the campsites are really parking lots. No showers although they did have running water. And the wind!!! It blows almost constantly at 25 to 35 miles per hr. The first time on this trip that it was warm enough to set up my chair and cook outside and I gave up the idea very quickly.

There were no cacti. So no flowers. Everything is BROWN and every shade of brown. The landscape is interesting and lots of different formations. But between the wind and no dog friendly hikes and the crowds (lots of people) i decided one night was plenty.

I set a destination for Red Rock state park , but when I checked to make reservations, there were none. Planning will be important on my summer trips....which will be a challenge as I am not much of a planner. So I just had to keep going...

Spent another night at a Pilot outside Havusu City, AZ. Decided I prefer Reststops to Truck stops but it was fine.

  • Death Valley NP

    March 28, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

Made it to Death Valley NP. It was a bit disappointing. The camping areas were like parking lots, nice parking lots but cement/dirt slabs, no privacy. And the wind was unbelievable. It was warm but I couldn't sit or cook outside because of the wind. It was blowing at 35 mph or more all night. Vanette was rocking like a cradle.

Tried to take a hike in the morning, no dogs allowed on any trails. Everything is brown, every shade of brown you could imagine but not a speck of green or a flower or anything.

  • 3 Nights in Phoenix

    March 29, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Spent 3 nights in Phoenix with Bev. Old friends are special.

It was good to just hang out. And so good to feel appreciated. I helped her with YNAB, and some minor computer stuff and little things like changing the doorknob on the 'office so she could lock it and keep Michelle out, and rearranging some stuff etc. And she claims I changed her "world" . Makes me happy to help her and to be appreciated. Maybe could have stayed longer but we'll have to plan how I can help more next time.

AND I am going to Peru with her in August!!! That still doesn't seem real.

  • South Llano River TX State Park

    March 31, 2021 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 55 °F

Almost home.... but it is strange since my house is rented out now. So does that make me a "full time nomad"? And is Austin still home???

When I arrived at this park, the signs said the campground was full but I decided to go in and ask. There were actually 3 sites available so I got site 45. This is the first time I have been in a campground that was warm enough and comfortable enough to : cook outside, eat outside, was my dishes, and work on Vanette a little. And relax some. Also got here with plenty of daylight still available.

Jay and I took a walk and saw a LIVE Armadillo foraging around near a campsite.

Tomorrow after a short hike, I'm going to drive to Lost Maples for another night of relaxing camping.

  • Morning in Texas

    April 1, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 39 °F

It's 33 degrees at 8am and I am having tea and oatmeal. I think if I ever stay at a campsite for more than one nite, I will eventually have a routine. Will I get bored or lonely? That remains to be seen. This pandemic year has certainly messed with everything.Read more

  • Home to Austin

    April 1, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Made it to Jan's about 9pm after driving from South Llano River Park to Lost Maples Natural Preserve but they had no campsites and I actually liked S. Llano better. But I was not going to drive back to Llano. So after stopping for BBQ I called Jan and drove "home".Read more
