• Exploring Kuantan's cultural diversity

    Kuantan is a very diverse city concerning culture. Members of different ethnic backgrounds praying to different gods live side by side peacefully. There are quite a few colourful Indian temples (Tamil Nadu Style) and the impressive Sultan Ahmad Mosque. You find Chinese Buddhist temples as well as Christian churches. Food is just as varied. You can chose from very many different cuisines. I had a simple but very delicious chicken soup with rice. What I found to be very different from Indonesia, is that people actually talk in the language of their country of origin. Next to Malay which is very close to Indonesian, I heard Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese… I can’t tell the difference) and a variety of Indian languages whereas in Indonesia, everybody just speaks Bahasa Indonesia or English, but most people of Chinese origin can’t actually speak Chinese.Read more
