    Doing Yoga on Gili T

    February 10, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ -1 °C

During the first week of vacation of 2018 I went to the famous or rather infamous Gili Islands off the coast of Lombok. These three islands used to be secret spots but have become so popular that they have become extremely crowded and touristy. However, I thought that if I went there in the low season I might have a chance to enjoy them. And I did :-) I spent 5 nights on Gili T(travangan) and 3 on Tili Air - both in Yoga retreats. I wanted to find out whether extensive Yoga practice would help my arm and shoulder.... it figured that it did not, because i was doing it all wrong and for 8 days, nobody told me, but I did have a lot of fun, I did enjoy the Yoga practice anyway and I was actually able to relax quite it bit. I tried out Hatha, Vinyassa Flow, Ying Yoga, Aqua Yoga and High Fly Yoga.Read more

  • Night life on Gili T

    February 11, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

There are lots of bars on Gili T, a few places you could dance at and lots of live music, e.g. at the famous Sama Sama Raggae pub. Lot's of nice colourful lights, comfy beach chairs and cheap cocktails. The best thing - however - is the night market, where you can get fresh delicious see food for very little money. Best Indonesian food I've had in 7 months.Read more

  • Gili Travangan - Local life

    February 12, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

I rented a bike (just like everybody else) and went once around the island and several times across it to get some idea of how the locals live on this island. It is a very strange place indeed... there must be 10 times more tourists than locals, possibly many more in high season. There are hotels, hostels, home stays, resorts...one next to the other. People run around in bikinis, shorts presenting their aweful tattoos (never seen so many ugly ones in my whole life) to whoever doesn't have enough time to look away. The vast of the majority is Muslim though.... Very strange and artificial place..Read more

  • The Banyan Tree - at Gili T

    February 14, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌫 -1 °C

The Banyan Tree is a vegetarian Restaurant/Café place on Gili T run by a Finish lady... As I said, Gili T. is a strange place. BUT... as a German living outside of Jakarta and being into healthy food, this is just the kind of place I miss here in my neighbourhood. So I spent more hours on the roof terrace of this little place than I did on the beach. The food was possibly the best vegetarian and vegan food I've ever had and if I ever go back to Gili T it's because of this place <3. I've taken various photos of the menue so I can figure out their recepies...Read more

  • Gili Air - Leasure time

    February 15, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

I skipped Gili Meno although it's supposed to be the most beautiful and most quiet of the three, but first there's no yoga retreat on Gili Meno and second, in the rainy season, a place like that can become a little boring. So i wen to Gili air instead. The island is smaller, tidyier and quieter than Gili T but has just as many cute places to stay and many, many bars and restaurants. I managed to find one that was almost as good as the Banyan Tree - The Pachamama.... I can imagine returning to this island next year in February. In the low season it is definately a nice place to stay.Read more

  • Gili Air - Local life

    February 16, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Got up early and tried to capture some impressions of local life on Gili Air. The people, the vegetation, the colours, it's a beautiful place!
