I didn't know when it was going to happen but I knew it was going to eventually. the mental fog hit me today like a fucking brick wall. it was like I forgot how to read. I was jumbling my numbers. I couldn't tell left from right. I missed almost every turn, 10 miles the wrong way on switchbacks once. It was horrible.
I had several close calls today. First, just like yesterday, I immediately found myself on extremely twisty roads with tree limbs gravel mud leaves you name it everywhere. My rear wheel got squirrely I don't know how many times. I missed a deer by one of its hairs. I could smell it. In the dark I went into a turn way too hot and...well, let's not say that out loud.
Anyway, with all the mistakes I made, I figure I lost at least a couple of hours on whoever's in front of me.
That is, until I called one of the organizers tonight because I hit an unmarked detour. When I asked where I should go, she said she didn't know. I was the first one to reach it. No way I still don't believe her. Anyway, I made it through the detour and I'm back on the proper road where I found a little place to tuck away for a few hours.
No smiles today. Lots of screaming. Tomorrow will be better.
P.S.: Remember in Forrest Gump how Lieutenant Dan told them to take care of their feet? Well, I should have listened. Tonight's the first night I've taken off my socks. And since my boots and insoles were saturated yesterday and I slept in them last night, my tootsies are not up to par. I've dusted them with Gold Bond powder to help the skin dry out, and they should be good in the morning. No worries.
P.P.S.: Why do I smell like dog food? I hope there aren't any coyotes out here 😳Read more
