Route 66 West Day 6: The End

Three of us left Victorville at 0800 determined to finish Route 66 despite LA area traffic.

Our first stop was the location of the very first McDonald's 😱. It's a museum now, but the inside wasn't open until 1000, so we rolled on.

We saw some.of the old buildings, mainly motels, including another Wigwam Hotel and a motor motel with a carport for each room. I wish they had those now.

We stopped for lunch at The Hut, a small chain of fastfood restaurants that specialize in pastrami. I had the "World Famous Pastrami Cheeseburger," which was huge and delicious. It had a sauce similar to a Big Mac or Thousand Island dressing. The pastrami was absolutely fantastic 🤤. Tender, not stringy, very flavorful. Yum!!

We were getting short on time, so we raced down Wilshire Boulevard to one of my Tour of Honor stops, a piece of the Berlin Wall. It's always so cool to see the original panels.

After that, we jumped on I-10 and hightailed it to the Santa Monica Pier to take a group photo with the other rally riders. So awesome!!

Then we were off to Bartel's HD for dinner, door prizes, and fellowship. I'm sad to say goodbye to everyone, but I'm ready to get rolling once again and very ready to finish up this epic year.

It has been such a special treat to do the entire length of Route 66 on its 100th Anniversary. And to do it with friends, both old and new, has made it a trip I won't soon forget. Thank you!! 🤗
