My second attempt to take a Tour of Honor photo with the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was a success. The first time I visited the site, which is located on a federal installation, was when the federal government was shut down and they weren't letting anyone on base. Today, they searched the bike so I could ride it 20 feet into the visitor parking lot. At the visitor center, I had to walk through a metal detector, pass my phone and TOH placard through the X-ray machine, have a background check run on me, and leave my driver's license with them. Then I walked the quarter mile to the memorial, took my photo, and walked back. Worst TOH location EVER!

That was my first stop of the day. I spent the rest of the day battling traffic around Baltimore and D.C. 😓 I got all my stops except the last Harley dealership. I cut it out when I found out my friend's youngest son was leading his high school marching band at tonight's game. He's the senior drum major. No way I was missing that!!

In 2021, I met an incredible human being nicknamed Lumpy, who told me about the Hoka Hey. I signed up and was accepted in 2022, but he lost his decade-long battle with cancer before I could ride it. So, I had "For Lumpy" on my bike and on my vest. Tonight I'm spending time with his family, his wonderful wife, the oldest son the firefighter, and the youngest son the drum major. Their sister is in college in Michigan.

It is so fantastic to see them again!!
