    Back in PE Oct. 2nd-14th

    October 2, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Well I'm back in Puerto at Paziflora again. Saw a volcano on the flight from Mexico City to PE. This time with a slightly different agenda. I needed a motorcycle and a surfboard. We are planning on motorcycling all the way to Nicaragua from Mexico. After a few days of looking I bought a 2021 Italika 250. After getting the surfboard rack welded on I bought a surf board from Jaciel from Blue Beach Cafe. We were delayed from hitting the road because of a hurricane by a fews days. However, after the weather passed we had everything we needed and headed for Playa de Mojon. It was great to see the host family again, they are so kind. We made some good friends during our stay and they gave us a great send off.Read more

  • Playa de Mojon

    October 14, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Our first drive was an easy one. Only 120km/74 miles. The drive took us to a very small village known as Playa de Mojon. We found a dormitory with 5 beds for 350 pesos each. The hotel was named Hotel Mojon and was run by Marco and his family. It had a very large patio facing the beach. The town had one little cafe that made excellent food. The wave there was a right hander point break. It had a steep drop in and was pretty fast. I caught one nice wave and just got tossed on all the other attempts. Im really feelin the 5 month break from surfing.Read more

  • Barra de la Cruz

    October 16, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Our next stop was Barra de la Cruz. With only going 7km/4.3miles it was a short drive. This town is a little larger and a little more popular. We had heard there would be 50 or more people on the wave, but luckly that hasn't been the case. Maybe only 15 at most. We found nice accomadations at Pasada Dos Hermanas. A private room with two twin beds and en suite bathroom. The surfing has been better for me here. The wave is a point break right hander with a sandy bottom. The first few waves I tried tossed me into the washing machine, but the next few I got my pop up and derectional start back. I still prefer the left handers being that I am a goofy footer.Read more

  • Salina Cruz Oct. 20th-22nd

    October 20, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

After a few raining days in Barra de La Cruz and some surfing we headed to Salina Cruz. Along the way we stopped at Playa Bamba. There was a point break but it was very windy and would be for a few days. So we continued south to Salina Cruz. NIk had stayed there with a family previously and we opted to stay in the dorm room. The room had a/c but was pretty basic. To surf Salina you have to pay a "guide", some local rule they have there. The guy doesn't even surf with you, he just accompanies you to the beach. The waves were small and windy at Punta Conejo. We also didn't want to pay some jackass to surf so we just stayed one night. Other than the bad waves the area was beautiful and made some good photos. Unfortunately, three days after we left a oil spill at the port nearby covered the beaches around Salina Cruz. We were off to San Cristobol next with a stop in Tonala as a mid way point.Read more

  • San Cristobol de Las Casas Oct. 22nd-24

    October 23, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We stayed one night in Tonala as a mid point between San Cristobol De Lasa Casas and Salina Cruz. Once in San Cris we stayed at a hostel for two nights, which unfortunately had bed bugs. However, we did take an all day tour of Sumidero Canyon. The tour picked us up in the morning at the hostel. We went to two miradors that looked over the canyon. Then took a two hour boat tour of the canyon its self. It started at the hyrdoelectic damn side of the canyon. We motored underneath a few waterfalls coming out of the canyon walls. Saw monkeys and alligators as we go to where the river was still flowing. The boat trip ended in Chiapas de Corzo which had markets and old squares. I have been in San Cris before, its got alot of small streets with plenty of restuarants. Its also filled with artist, culture, many stores, hippies, musicians, and lots of beggers. Its also up in the mountains so it gets quite chilly. Not my favorite place but a must see.Read more

  • Mission Surf Oct. 26th- 29th

    October 26, 2022 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

After San Cristobol we drove back to Tonala and stayed two nights. Our next destination was Mission Surf. Located in a very small town near the boarder with Guatemala. The hotel works with the local kids teaching them how to swim and surf. Before the point was ruined with the palcement of rocks, it was a very popular surf spot. The ocean began erodding the coast away and the rocks were placed. The is still some good beachbreak and some jettys creating waves but it is not what it once was. The hotel is large and we had it to ourselves. There were a few volunteers there. The place was right on the beach with a nice kitchen and pool. Only P350 for the bed. We spent a few days here surfing and hanging out. Eventually the sea wil take the whole area and mission surf will be no more. Next up Guatemala.Read more
