    Roadtrip Departure

    2. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

We kicked off our road trip from Reservoir, a little later than planned—some of our crew showed up behind schedule. We had rented a car through the Turo app, but ran into a small scare right at the start: the code to access the keys didn’t work. For a moment, we thought the trip was off to a very bad start. Luckily, someone nearby gave us a hand and helped open the lockbox.

Despite the hiccup and the early hour, the mood was upbeat. We were all excited—if a bit groggy—to finally get moving. Our destination: the legendary Great Ocean Road. The crew: Giuliana, Emma, Emilio, Jacopo, and me. Spirits were high, the car was packed, and the road was calling.

  • Bells Beach

    2. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

We arrived at Bells Beach under a moody, overcast sky—cloudy and windy, with that crisp coastal air that wakes you up fast. The place was quiet, almost empty, adding to the raw beauty of the scene. We started off shivering, but the walk along the beach quickly warmed us up, body and spirit. As soon as we stepped onto the overlook, Emma summed it all up perfectly: "Wow guys, what a beauty." That moment hit—the first real breath of freedom.Læs mere

  • Lunch at Lorne beach

    2. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We rolled into Lorne just as the weather began to shift—clouds gave way to sunshine, and the whole town lit up. Before arriving, we made a quick grocery stop to stock up. By the time we parked near the beach, the ocean was dotted with surfers riding the waves under a clear sky.

Lunch was casual, but I managed to elevate it to legendary status by pulling out my homemade tiramisu. Safe to say, I conquered everyone's hearts with a single spoonful. What can I say—I’m just the best.

Just as we were about to leave the parking lot, ready for the next stop, Emilio casually chimed in from the back seat: “Guys, one problem.” He was pointing at the rear door—wide open. We burst out laughing, realizing we were seconds away from driving off with it flapping in the wind.

  • Phantom Falls

    2. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After lunch in Lorne, we headed inland and uphill for a walk to Phantom Falls. The trail was peaceful, surrounded by eucalyptus and dense green—classic Aussie bush vibes. Along the way, the girls were on a mission to spot a koala. They scanned every tree like seasoned wildlife trackers but had no luck. The only sign of life they found was what they claimed was koala poo on the ground. We weren’t entirely convinced, but they seemed satisfied with the find.

The hike took us about an hour and a half, and spirits were high… until we reached the top and realized the falls were completely dry. Summer strikes again—and not one of us had considered that possibility. We stood there laughing at our anti-climactic discovery, but hey, the walk was still worth it.

  • Koala sighting

    2. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

On the drive toward Apollo Bay, we made a bunch of spontaneous stops—couldn’t help ourselves with those coastal views. At Kennett River, luck was finally on our side: we spotted a real, live koala snoozing up in a tree. Of course, we definitely didn’t make noise or shuffle around underneath just to get it to move. Totally respectful wildlife observers.

To top it off, somewhere along the way we drove past a paddock full of fluffy, long-haired highland cows and… either alpacas or llamas. Honestly, we still don’t know the difference, but they were fluffy and fabulous and that’s what matters.

  • Apollo Bay

    2.–3. mar. 2025, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We arrived in Apollo Bay late in the day and checked into the backpackers’ hostel we had booked. During check-in, the staff recommended a nearby spot to catch the sunset. We made our way there, wine bottle in hand, hopeful—but the sunset didn’t quite deliver the drama we were expecting. Still, the view over the bay, the ocean breeze, and a shared drink made it more than worth the walk.

Back at the hostel, we got to work cooking dinner and prepping lunch for the next day. After eating, we went out for a bit of stargazing, but the clouds had other plans—no stars for us that night.

The next morning brought an unexpected comedy. I opened the fridge to grab our packed lunch and instantly burst out laughing. Sitting on the shelf was a small pesto glass… filled with leftover pasta. Apparently, we’d run out of Tupperware and decided to improvise. Resourceful or ridiculous? Probably both.

  • Cape Otway

    3. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We started the morning with a visit to Cape Otway and the surrounding national park. The drive in was scenic, but the destination itself wasn’t anything to write home about. Turns out you have to pay to get up close to the lighthouse—so we passed and took a half-hour walk along the cliffs instead. No regrets there—the views were still spectacular and came with a salty breeze and a sense of quiet freedom.

On the way out, we got a bonus wildlife sighting: another koala lounging high up in the trees. Emma and Giuliana practically had hearts in their eyes, gazing up at that little grey peluche like it was the cutest thing on Earth.

  • Twelve Apostols

    3. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

By early afternoon, we made it to the iconic Twelve Apostles. The sun was blazing, the kind that makes the road shimmer, and the crowds were thick—but none of it mattered once we reached the lookout.

The view was absolutely breathtaking. Towering limestone stacks rose from the turquoise ocean, waves crashing around their bases with timeless force. It looked like I had stepped straight into the old Windows screensaver—those surreal, picture-perfect cliffs set against an endless blue. It’s one of those places that makes you stop talking for a minute, just to soak in how incredible nature can be.

  • London Bridge

    3. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Not far from the Twelve Apostles, we stopped at London Bridge—once a full archway, now split in two after part of it collapsed years ago that's what chat gpt says at least). Despite its half-missing form, the view was still striking. The remaining arch juts defiantly into the sea, surrounded by frothy waves and cliffs sculpted by time. It was windy, wild, and full of that raw coastal energy that makes you feel small in the best way.Læs mere

  • The Grotto

    3. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Our final coastal stop for the day was The Grotto—a natural sinkhole-meets-rock-pool kind of wonder. A short walk down some stairs brought us face-to-face with a peaceful scene: calm water framed by golden rock, with the open ocean just beyond. Compared to the dramatic cliffs before, this spot felt almost intimate and quiet, like a secret place carved out just for a moment of stillness. Definitely worth the detour.Læs mere

  • End of the trip

    3. marts 2025, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

To wrap it all up—we had an amazing time. From the highs of stunning views to the small, silly moments (like pasta in a pesto jar), this trip was full of energy, laughs, and unexpected turns. I got to know a great bunch of people, and by the end, we weren’t just travel companions—we were a weird and funny little team.

Travelling alone has its charm, but it’s even better when you find a crew to share the journey with. The Great Ocean Road gave us more than just landscapes—it gave us memories that’ll stick.

Next destination? Who knows. Australia’s still massive, and I’ve got a lot more to explore.
