We arrived early in Marrakesh after a flight from Milan and caught a bus to the city center. Our first stop was a stroll through the vibrant market, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch at a local restaurant tucked away on a quiet street. Afterward, we visited the Saadian Tombs before checking into our Riad for the night.

In the afternoon, we met a friendly local who spoke excellent English and gave us an insightful tour of the markets, sharing stories and details about the city’s rich history. We then explored the Bahia Palace, admiring its stunningly decorated rooms and peaceful inner gardens. Our final stop was the Koutoubia Mosque, though we couldn’t enter it.

  • Merzouga desert

    26. september 2024, Marokko ⋅ 🌙 31 °C

In the afternoon, we arrived at the Merzouga Desert, located at the edge of the Sahara. Famous for its vast dunes, some of which rise over 150 meters, Merzouga offers an unforgettable desert experience. We rode camels through the shifting sands, taking in the breathtaking landscape as the sun began to set. Our journey led us to a desert camp where we spent the night under a canopy of stars, surrounded by the tranquil silence of the Sahara.

Early the next morning, we woke up to witness the sunrise at a nearby nomad camp, where we enjoyed spectacular views of Algeria on the distant horizon. The peacefulness of the desert at dawn was mesmerizing, with the golden light illuminating the endless dunes. Afterward, we had an exhilarating experience sandboarding down the dunes.

By mid-morning, we began our journey back to Marrakesh, arriving in the evening with unforgettable memories of our desert adventure.

  • Casablanca

    28. september 2024, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

The next day, we traveled north to Casablanca by train. With affordable prices, we decided to book first-class tickets, which made the three-hour ride comfortable and relaxing. Once we arrived in Casablanca, we used public transportation to reach our hotel, where we settled in before heading out for a walk.

To be honest, we weren’t very impressed with the city. It felt unkempt, with many areas in need of care, and the European influence was much more apparent here compared to Marrakesh. The city lacked the charm we had experienced elsewhere.

Our second day in Casablanca was mainly spent visiting the Hassan II Mosque, an architectural marvel and the third-largest mosque in the world. It’s also the only mosque in Morocco that non-Muslims are allowed to visit. The sheer scale and detail of the mosque were impressive, especially its location by the sea.

Overall, our time in Casablanca was much slower compared to the rest of the trip, but it provided a moment of rest. We took the train back to Marrakesh in the afternoon, where we caught our flight the next day. It was a successful and memorable journey.
