    2 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

Day 1. Just kidding. Khaosan road! You either need bad taste of music or be completely wasted. Or be British :) Laughing gas, sefie sticks and pingpong shows are the main thing.

Bangkok. The mix of smells - food, cars, piss, ... One smart man once said "It's disgusting but when you'll be flying back you'll miss it". That's Bangkok, I love it!Baca selengkapnya

  • Wat Pho

    3 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

First whole day in Bangkok. Yup, had a jetlag. I slept till noon and missed my breakfast. Off to the town then ;)
Walked about 20km, there were tons of Thai people mourning for their king whose birthday is tomorrow. They were all in black, many many monks, ... A tuktuk driver warned me I shouldn't wear short, but he just wabted to earn his 50THB. I ealked through people, through hundreds of food stands, the smell was awful! Disgusting! Some shitty sour stuff they make, eww.

Finally I found a nice decent place for breakfast accross the road of Wat Pho. What I ate? Best things (besides bacon) - pineapple shake, mango shake, coffee and club sandwich. Yumm. At breakfast I was joined by a nice couple from Frankfurt and they suggested I go to another temple, it's prettier they said. I took my day off, I took it easy, no rush, walking and checking people, so I went accross the street to Wat Pho". For 100THB you get to see the biggesrtBuddha (30 tons), awesome chinese statues and tons of other gold statuea. Pretty amazing. It was all moced to Bangkok from Ayutthaya after 2nd war with Burma, when everything was burned down.
Not too many tourists, peace and quiet. Going to BKK? Check it out!

  • Wat Traimit

    3 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

At the end of Chinatown there is Wat Traimit (Wat = temple). The exhibition was closed but I could see the 3m big Buddha, recently found at some renovation. Beautiful! Also donated some money for kids and their education. They are collecting donations everywhere and it pays off, I've heard. They are building houses, schools, fixing temples, ...
After that I headed home, 4km walk. I also had to help some elder chinese women finding her holel. Talking about handling Bangkok like a boss :)

  • You can find EVERYTHING in Bangkok

    3 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

After having my curry dinner (I couldn't eat any thai food, too much sour smell during the day on the streets) and buying some shirts and fisherman's pants so I don't look like a fucking #1 tourist from Russia I went through streets to find a decent place for my evening's beer. And while I was walking someone waves at me. I thought "I don't know anyone here". I couldn't believe it - Matjaž and Mateja, just arrived today to Bangkok from Dubai! Amazing! We should meet in Haad Yuan in 3 weeks but here they were! And a pinapple havana drink already waiting for me. It was a fun evening, drinking a LOT of havana before heading home. I'm meeting them for breakfast tomorrow.Baca selengkapnya

  • Siem Reap, Cambodia

    4 Desember 2016, Kamboja ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

It means Siam Defeated. I really don't know what to say, I'm speechless. Not that I expected a big fancy city, but ... their year's sallary is less than a phone I'm writing this on. $700 / year. I feel so ignorant :/
Angkor Wat and tourists are the only thing keeping this town alive. It is an AWESOME town though, nice and warm people, it's amazing, everything costs 1$, beer is 0.5$ though :) Also tourists differ a lot from those in Bangkok, way more true backpackers. It feels nice to be here :) You just have to keep saying no to all the massages and tuktuk driver since they are offering that on every step.
I have two roomates, a swedish dude that keeps studying and a canadian dude, retired psychologyst traveling aroung his whole life. So me and the old guy went to grab something to eat. That's the people I like meeting amd talking to on trips, people who share experiences, who've seen the world, we've met toms of nice prople from Australia, US, ... interesting debates. At the end we tried fried ice cream, something you can buy on any corner.
Hostel is a winner, friendliest staff ever, cheap, clean, amazing people, cute girls, I still need to check the pool on rooftop tomorrow.
And yes, I found snakes on a stick, but they are tiny ones, eeewwwwwwew.

  • Angkor grand tour

    5 Desember 2016, Kamboja ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

For $7 they put me and a dude named Jon from Spain in a tuktuk and drove us all around wats. Except for the main one - Angkor Wat, so I'm going there on Wednesday. 6 hours trip was amazing, peaceful, lots to see. The whole park $20 for a day or $40 for 3 days) is huge. They drive you to a temples and wat for you on the other side to take you to next one. We did have a sunset tour but it was a bit cloudy, still the view was fantastic.
You do get to meet one other part of Cambodia, little 5yo kids begging you to buy magnets or postcards from them. There was this 4 or 5yo kid, who shold be playing with toys but instead followed us for 15 minutes saying "Please mister, but something from me, just one dolla". That voice, that pretty face, yup, it broke me. I will probably never forget that voice and the look she gave us in the end for not buying anything (I did buy magnets from abother girls earlier and postcards from another). Back home we have a life, here... is a reality, an Irish bloke commented at dinner.
Of course in the evening it was beer o'clock so we went out to Indian restaurant and fhen a couple of 0.5$ draft beers. Me and an Irish dude were them emptying bottles in hostel until 3am. I wouldn't wanna be him, he has to get up at 6 to go to Laos.

  • The Angkor Wat

    7 Desember 2016, Kamboja ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Today I rented a bike for $2 and went for a trip to Angkor Wat again. This time to the Angkor Wat. It was hooot, takes you like 20 minutes to get there in crazy traffic and then you just ride in the woods. Angkor was partly closed today due to Holy day (no idea, don't ask) so I couldn't climb on top. It's big and amazing. Only problem are japanese tourists takimg selfies every-fucking-where! But it was nice, all the wall sculptures, endless halls, ...
Then we rode to Bayon temple and Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider was filmed there) that has all those huge trees with roots wrapped around buildings. You just cannot get enough.

  • Bye Siem Reap, I'll be back!

    8 Desember 2016, Kamboja ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

5 days are over, off to Bangkok and to Chiang Mai. I was hoping for at 18:45 or at least 20:30 train, all was full. The only ticket I clould get was some upper bed on 22:50 train so I guess I won't see much of a sunrise but at least I'll see more of mountains... and hopefuly get some sleep. I doubt it but let's see how it goes. 2 more hours of waiting for the train on DMK airport because it's hot and outaide. Booreeeeeed and running out of battery :/
UPDATE: finally on a train. It doesn't look that bad, enough space, a/c, already ordered breakfast, ... And yes, I got the last bed :)

  • Wake up wake up!

    9 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

When I got on night train this lady comes to me "what you want for breakfast?". You know those mamma type of ladies where you just know she handles stuff :) I ordered some sausages, eggs, coffee, "ok, ok, you no pay nao you pay tomorro!". Gotta love them.
In the morning this lady goes up and down yelling "wake up wake up darlings", we're all smiling and laughing, she hands everybody breakfast, like a mlm feeding her kids. The best. I've had better breakfasts but the view is nice.

  • Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

    10 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Elephants have been an important part of Thai history. Chiang Mai is an area is South East Asia with most elephants so being here I HAD to visit them. There are many sanctuaries you can visit, only few are true ones - no allowing you to ride them, in fact they have rescued elephants that were used for touristic attractions. It costs about 2400THB for a full day visit. They picked me up in the morning and along with two British girls, one Mexican and three French guys we were put to back of a truck and went for an hour and a half long trip to the camp in the middle of the jungle.
When we got there we were like kids "Eeeeleeephaaants!!! Aaaand a baaaabyyyy!". It was awesome. They have 7 elephants, six females and one lucky (poor?) male. They are the cutest. They are way more active than those sad ones in ZOOs. After explaining us few basics about these animals (no stomack, 4 teeth, sleep 5 hours daily) they gave us bananas and sugar canes. Elephants knew this sso they came running to us :) So we fed them, tool photos, hugged and pet them, ... Pretty fun! After that we went to jungle with them so they could eat some more (no stomack means they eat all the time). After a walk and lunch - funtime! We put mud all over them (protects them from insects and sun). We gor all muddy aswell. After that ot was bath time. Water everywhere, they lay in water and paddle with their feet, it was the happiest time :D
In the end we had to say goodbye, we each took few more pictures and headed back to Chiang Mai.
Day ended by visiting Saturday Night Market, where thousands of people come to eat, shop and hang out. Once you get caught in the flow of people, there is no way out :) Ate sone pretty awesome Chicken Pad Thai for 40THB and crappes. Yum!

  • Chiang Mai and temples, yay!

    11 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Slept long, washed clothes and booked a zipline tour and a Doi Inthanon day tour for Tuesday, so can't wait! Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand so of course I have to see it.
I went out to be cultural today, a trip around the temples. There are more than 300 in Chiang Mai, I visited the ones in Old Town. First I went to the Wat Chiang Mai, the oldest royal temple in town. Pretty peaceful to walk around. Next up was Wat Chai Phrakiat, a small one just on the way to the biggest one - Wat Chedi Luang, they started building it in 14th century when King Saem Muang Ma wanted to bury his father's ashes. It took ober a century to build and it was 82m high! There were Buddhas everywhere of course :)
After all then I noticed the whole town center closed and they started building market stands. The center turned into one biiiig market, selling everything from food, drinks, elephant statues, you name it! I ate a LOT of different foods, had all kinds of fruits, waffles, ...
Time for an evening's beer and early sleep, I have to be ready at 7am tomorrow for a zipline, yay!

  • Eagle Track Zipline

    12 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

After talking and drinking in the Hostle with a couple of Canadian and Chinese girls until 2am I had to be up at 7! Argh! This not being my first time it wasn't that hard :) A driver picked me up along with some Dutch girls and few Chinese people. It takes an hour to get to the hills (see map) and then the fun begins! After few simple rules we started ziplining, climbing, walkkng the bridges, doing vertical falls, .. it was amazing! The nature there is really breathtaking when you are up in the trees looking down :) Things aren't that scary though (for me at least), but we were pretty amused watching Chinese girls scream like crazy all the time :) I could easy go for another round or two!Baca selengkapnya

  • Village Karen

    13 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

During the trip to Doi Inthanon park we stoppednin Karen village, they are people who came from Myanmar and they produce coffee and scarfs. It's a small village, coffee bushes all around, also tons of dogs, cats and lizards. Interesting thing is they are not buddhists, they are actually catholics and they also have a catholic church, something I didn't think I'd see in Thailand.Baca selengkapnya

  • Doi Inthanon - roof of Thailand

    13 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Of course there was a huge cloud at the top and we didn't see much :) The peak is 2565m above sea level, named after 7th King. Nothing much to see here though. About 10 minutes awat are two pagodas, for their late King and a queen. King's one is 5m higher because King was 5 years older than a queen. From here you can see Chiang Mai below and they have some pretty nice gardens. Really a beautiful and peaceful place :)Baca selengkapnya

  • Loco Elvis and ...

    13 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

I really needed some western food, eating rice all the time is not good :) In went out and found this place called Loco Elvis, a mexican restaurant / karaoke bar. The food was amazing, also there was some rock band playing everything from Oasis to Queens, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ... and they were amazing! People would just sang along, then some tuktuk driver stopped by and started making soap bubbles, you just gotta love Thailand's random things. After band ended some group of people came in and started songing karaoke. First one girl insisted I sing, then another, then whole group asked me to join them. Sadly karaoke machine got turned off before it was my turn. Oh well, we just switched to tequillas, beer, went to some clubs (where you buy a bottle of whiskey for 499THB), were dancing on some stage, ... Some of us ended up walking through the town, sitting in parks, asking some cool monk about meaning of life and buddhism, ... What a night! And what a hangover, slept through whole next day so even the receptionist was worried about me :) Thai are such lovely people ❤Baca selengkapnya

  • Awesome Pai

    17 Desember 2016, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

On Friday my friends arrived from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. It was also first cloudy day (not connected of course, hehe) on my Thailand trip. After few beers in the night we've headed to Pai in the morning. A 3 hiur bus drive is not the most comfortable, but for 250THB it was okay :)
Pai is a wonderful town, it has this hippy vibe with a lot of small restaurants and stores along the main street, oh so nice! Already rented some scooters (yes mom, I have a helmet!) so we're off to explore this Thailand's pearl :)

It's hidden inside canyon, some are even swimming, I skipped that part. We rode we kms to see the famous Pai Canyon, around 50m high path around it was a must see! It can be a bit dangerous going around with all those asians doing selfies. An easy day :)Baca selengkapnya
