Day 163/164: Frankfurt Football

Mary woke up with a sore throat and stuffed nose so we pumped her with vitamin C, cold meds, and trained to Frankfurt. Used the rest of the day to sleep and rest. Big plans for Saturday to meet up with Gabriel and Francisco who we met in Bulgaria for a wild night out. Knowing them, we chugged water and consumed as much food as possible in preparation.

Gabriel planned for us to watch the Eurocup game in the fan zone. It was Turkey VS Portugal, and many Turkish folks live in Germany. We got döner and grabbed beer/wine at the kiosk. Francisco needed to go home so we continued on without him (girlfriend troubles).

The fan zone was packed with both Turkish and Portugal fans. The girls would scream every time Cristiano Ronaldo appeared on the screen. Gabriel found a standing table with several Scotsman from Glasgow with really thick accents. This was Kieran’s first time around a group of Scots so he was dying laughing at all the “fukking hells”, “fur fukks sakes”, and “aggy cunts” flying around us. Gabriel admitted he couldn’t understand a word of their English. We befriend James and Stephen, who currently lives in Dallas Texas with his wife. He said he misses Scotland though and Texas is just not the same.

Other fabulous moments include Mary being called a beer angel after she gave away a beer she didn’t want to the Scots and later one of the Scots yelling, “Oi big man” to get Kieran’s attention 😭😭😭

Portugal completely dominated the game, but the Turkish fans were still cheering and celebrating throughout the city after. Stephen and James tag along as Gabriel walks us through the old town to more bars. We get a few drinks and talk to Stephen and James who assure us they are the more responsible brother watching out for the other. At 10:30pm we call it quits while Gabriel continues to club until 4:30am. Really glad we left early 😬
