• Day 165: Neustadt with Tobias

    June 23, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

If you’ve been following us from the beginning, you know that we met Gabriel and Francisco in Sofia. The next day, Mary was too hungover so Kieran solo’d a free food tour where he met Tobias also from Germany. Thus, after meeting Gabriel and Francisco in Frankfurt, we trained to meet up with Tobias in Neustadt!

He and his wife were kind enough to let us stay in their home for two days and he picked us up from the train station. Tobias wanted to show us a side of Germany that is not in trip advisor so his plan was to take us to the little villages in the Rhineland-Palatinate region.

We started in Wachenheim where we hiked through winery fields and up to Wachenheim Castle. The landscape, hills, and vine fields were in full view and they served local Riesling mixed with lemon and sparkling water. Next we visited Burrweiler and enjoyed wine from Vinothek Meßmer. Tobias loves wine and we plotted to convert Kieran into a wine drinker. He shared his favorite Chardonnay and Pino Grigio.

Finally, we got back home and met Tobias’s wife Silvia and 9 year old daughter Elizabeth. She was shy at first but then rittled of the English she knew. We tried to converse but we know very little German 😖 We toured their garden and enjoyed a small dinner before heading to bed.
