• Day 166: Speyer, Sankt Martin & Mussbach

    24 czerwca 2024, Niemcy ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

We woke up at 7:30 for coffee and hit the road with Tobi at 8 am. We first stopped in Speyer where Tobi grew up and went to school. The gothic architecture surrounding the church buildings was intense. We also ate bakery sweets next to the Rhine river in Springbrunnen Kursk park.

Next we visited Rietburg which had a chair lift up to a nature park. We grabbed beer and lunch, and then Tobi insisted we feed some deer. There are several US/German military bases in this region so we enjoyed an air show on the mountain side. We hiked down the mountain and drove on to our final stop in downtown Neustadt. None of these areas were impacted by World War II carpet bombings so the old town charm remained largely untouched. We passed a building that was constructed in 810 as a wind cellar 😬

Stopped by home for a quick nap and got laundry done. We went out for dinner a restaurant where the chef had two Michelin stars but was burnt out by the industry. We showed Elizabeth Snapchat which led to many giggles and laughs at the table. At home, played horses with Elizabeth and planned a bit of Thailand since Tobi just visited.

Major thanks to Tobias, Silvia, Elizabeth, and Lily for hosting us the last two days. We are extremely lucky to visit the quaint German villages and experience amazing wine from this region.
