Rafting

We spent the morning rafting the Savegre river…cleanest in Central America.
Longwood students are the best

Playa Ventana

Named for the windows carved into the limestone cliffs. Beautiful place with lots of local color.
Today’s tasting

…is grenadilla. Related to the passion fruit I think, it opens to a gelatinous goo with seeds. It’s tasty.
Cocoa workshop

Students are learning how to make chocolate from the cocoa plant. The yellow pods contain the seeds encased in a delicious white and gooey fruit. We have to roast the seeds and then remove the skin.Read more

El Pavon waterfall

There is a beautiful waterfall just off the road. If you arrive early, you will have it all to yourself.
Iguana Libre

At a cute ecolodge and we have the entire place. It’s simple but really cute. And the Swiss couple who runs it is wonderful.
Today’s new experience

Fresh coconuts were the new food experience for some of the students today. As John said, it is way better than from the carton.
Sunsets

Beautiful sunset here and that means we are back on the bus to head south. This has been super relaxing.
And finally monkeys

Great monkey sighting at Manuel Antonio beach. I think these are Capuchin monkeys. Nice iguana too.
Pacific coast beaches

Today was mainly a travel day but we hit a few beaches as we moved south along the Pacific coast.
Rio Tarcoles

This river is home to a huge population of crocodiles and, as such, has become a huge draw. Here are pics from the bridge.
Poas

We were treated to a great view of Poas volcano as we started our drive to the southwest (heading to Pacific side).

Yellow river

Water is coming off Poas volcano and into this river. Because of the high sulfur content, the water is this unusual color.
Three toed sloth

Our first sloth sighting was a two-toed sloth. Today we found a three-toed sloth.
Rare bird sighting

This is the Great Potoo. The fact that we saw it today is amazing. Seeing it is very uncommon.
