  • Mammoth Cave, United States

    August 12, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

I'm so excited because I've been wanting to go to this park for years. I originally planned on going on a tour that was both educational and adventurous, but when I got there the only tour that was available that I wanted to do was the Wild Cave.Read more

  • Wild Cave

    August 12, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The wild cave tour was amazing. It was 6 hours of hiking, climbing, and crawling through tiny holes. I constantly kept asking questions to get history of the cave and the tour guide was happy to answer. We crawled through one spot that was only 9 inches high, where we had to turn our heads sideways to fit through. A fantastic tour and I'm so glad I did it!Read more

  • Cumberland Falls

    August 13, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

I started my day leaving Heath's house. I kinda wish I had time to check out the corvette museum or factory. He highly recommended them, so I hope I do eventually go see them. I start driving towards the Bush's baked beans factory, but make a detour to this wonderful waterfall. The first of many on my trip hopefully.Read more

I almost want to say this was a waste of time. I thought I was getting a tour, but instead they show you a short film and let you walk through a small museum. It was mildly interesting.

  • Pisgah National Forest

    August 14, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

I arrived the night before to Nathan's home in Asheville. He was really awesome. We went out to dinner the night before and talked. He's super easy going. I told him how I was planning on visiting The Great Smoky Mountains. He told me no way, it's a tourist trap, and that I should visit this forest instead. On his advice, I headed out in the morning to find this park. My GPS ended up sending me 100 miles out of the way. Obviously not so much fun, however it was just a beautiful park to hike one I got there and I got to see another waterfall.Read more

  • Sliding rock

    August 14, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

I did do some research before I headed out to the forest. Apparently there was a natural slip and slide called sliding rock that you can go down as many times as you want for $2. I only went down twice. It was super cold and not at all sunny, but so much fun. I absolutely want to visit there again. I posted videos on my YouTube page.Read more

  • Zen tubing

    August 15, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

I talked to Nathan the night before and decide to stay another night because we are going tubing. Brittain, the other couchsurfer that came in last night, and Tom, Nathan's friend both join us. It was a fun day and I got a wicked sunburn.Read more

    August 15, 2015 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Nathan is just an amazing cook. He starts off by cooking this huge breakfast. Bacon, three different types of scrambled eggs, hash browns, and a country specialty meat that I forgot what it was called. And if coarse grapefruit mimosas. After tubing he grills up chicken, corn, squash, and mushrooms. And later that night we get the munchies and he makes set potato fries with a caramel sauce and sticky buns from scratch. Incredible food.Read more

  • Conagree National Park

    August 16, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

I head out to South Carolina and absolutely have to stop and get gas because I find it for $1.99 per gallon. Then I go check out this national park. I hike for three hours and decide it's time to head out. It's a nice park. Huge trees. It might have been more intriguing if I had been there when the park rangers could have told me what areas to check out.Read more

  • Fort Jackson

    August 16, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I meet my host, Roberto, at Fort Jackson. This is my first time on a military base and it's really cool. Roberto is super excited to show me around and I totally fed off his energy. We go out to a restaurant to eat and end up doing impromptu karaoke to Hotel California twice because the first one wasn't caught on video. I eat my first shrimp and grits. Pretty good. Afterwards, he shows me around and we stop at an interactive art piece that you can write on. I take the opportunity to contribute. We end the night showing me a local hangout that has a weird collection of robots.Read more

  • Riverbanks Zoo

    August 17, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

While I was out hiking yesterday, I spoke to a couple that suggested I check out the zoo. I'm so happy I did. Not only do I love zoos, but this one was really well done and you get to be fairly close to the animals. Some of the enclosures felt like you could almost reach out and touch the animals.Read more

  • Columbia, United States

    August 17, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

I was talking to Roberto and just happen to mention that I had never shot a gun before and then he insisted on being the one to take me to a gun range for the first time. I can't say I truly liked the experience, but it was fun doing something so different. The pictures even make it look I I'm a good shot with the glock 9mm at 7 ftRead more

  • Lake Murray

    August 17, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

After leaving the gun range, Roberto still wanted to show me around. We passed the first dam I've ever seen and stopped at the lake. It was really pretty. We talked for a little and he asked if I was able to sleep through TAPS. The simple answer to that was no, no one could. It plays three times and over the speaker system so that the whole bar could hear it. When he went for a dip, I ended up talking to David. He was fun to talk to and invited me to come visit sometime to Charleston. Roberto and I went and cooked a German meal in celebration of him being stationed there soon. I was so grateful Roberto did for me and his best gift was a map of the USA that I keep referring to on my trip.Read more

  • South of the Border

    August 18, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

It's impossible to miss, just like my tour book said. I stopped at South of the Border. They capitalize on every stereotype possible and it's just ridiculously funny.

    August 18, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

With the map of my new map, I decided that it was time to head the ocean. I messaged some people and headed to Wilmington. My hosts, Ryan, Angie, and their two small boys, suggested I check out this cemetery. It was pretty interesting, but a little disappointed to find out that it was a self guided tour, as was most of the attractions in Wilmington.Read more
