    The Preparation: Part 1

    29. huhtikuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

A big journey starts here. Partly to discover every corner of what is called the Greek sea and partly to explore what we are made of. We are tuned to live fast every day, but with a sailing boat, no one can go fast. The pace is reduced, and this gives you time to see the world from a different perspective which is something I believe, we stopped doing it.Lue lisää

  • Amazone

    10. toukokuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

These days in the shipyard were intense. Many things to prepare and many new things to learn. A sailing boat is almost like a city itself. I did not know so many details despite my ten years experience with sailing boats (only charted, though).

Many thanks to my new friends Olaf and Conny, who dedicated time to explain alot of things and helped in many more others.

I wish we meet again in Aegean sea and...Eine gute Heimkehr und immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel!

Above SV Amazone from Olaf and Conny and SV Saint Eole waiting to be launched.

  • In and out

    22. toukokuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

    Good news: We are in!
Bad news: The gearbox has an issue and we have to get out again.

Someone told me once.. "Do you know when you are happy with your sailing boat? When you buy it and when you sell it".

Now I understand why he said that. After so much work and checks, we ended up having this serious issue with the gearbox that brought disappointment, but we don't give up. This Nautical Odyssey will happen so stay tuned. Now we are docked and wait for the technician..

  • We are sailing!

    25. toukokuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

What an amazing feeling! First time sailing with SV Saint Eole with 8 knots only with genoa. The problem was fixed finally and immediately we started the Nautical Odyssey. Now at Styra relaxing from a 4hours travel.Lue lisää

  • Kythnos

    29. toukokuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We arrived in Kythnos after a 4hours trip. Located in the western Cyclades, Kythnos is an amazing destination, with a wild natural landscape, exotic beaches and traditional villages. Thanks to its proximity to Athens, it has become a popular destination for short trips and weekend getaways, especially for visitors who enjoy locations with an authentic atmosphere.

Now relaxing watching the conference league final. 😎

  • Batsi

    4. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Day 1: from Kea to Andros
    Distance: 25NM
    Traveled time: 4h20
    Speed: 6kts

The small port in Batsi is very nice with many available Berths. Not recommended for July and August due to strong NE (Meltemi) winds. If the Port is full, anchoring in the bay is also possible and gives amazing view of the landscape. Full of Athenians though so not special 😜.Lue lisää

  • The home of monk seals

    6. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Anchored is this small bay in Alonissos Island, the home of the monk seals. The Mediterranean monk seal is a monk seal belonging to the family Phocidae. As of 2015, it is estimated that fewer than 700 individuals survive in three or four isolated subpopulations in the Mediterranean, in the Aegean Sea, the archipelago of Madeira and the Cabo Blanco area in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean.

    Let's hope we meet one!

  • At Skopelos with a small accident

    9. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We arrived at Skopelos. The Port is big and plenty of free spots are always available. The ferry is scary when it tries to dock cause it is coming very close to the sail boars but it seems they have a very good experience. We had a small accident and my dad injured his small toe but fortunately this should heal fast.Lue lisää

  • Anchored in Porto Koufo Big Bay

    14. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

From Porto Carras to Porto koufo is a route with amazing beaches on the way. It is a 12nm distance and every bay on the way is unique. In Porto Koufo the two docks are super short and mainly reserved for the fishermen. Morning is only allowed alongside for 4 to 5 boats max. The bay is huge but the water is too deep so you don't see these nice turquoise colors. Nevertheless, the landscape around is beautiful, a super green dense forest and the night is stunning with... a sky full of stars.

    Good night everyone...

  • Rough seas & mount Athos

    15. kesäkuuta 2024, Aegean Sea ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

The trip from Porto Koufo to Limnos is challenging. The sea is rough with big and long waves. Even the toughest stomach can not make it. But as you sail the south tip of the third peninsula of Chalkidiki, mount Athos is rising in front of you. It is stunning. 2033m just next to the sea and no one is allowed to go there. It is an important center of Eastern Orthodox monasticism. The mountain and most of the Athos peninsula are governed as an autonomous region in Greece by the monastic community of Mount Athos, which is ecclesiastically under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. The remainder of the peninsula forms part of the Aristotelis municipality. Women are prohibited from entering the area.

  • Limnos - at the Greek boarders

    16. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

After the tough crossing of the north Aegean Sea, we arrived at Myrina Port in Limnos Island. The place is big enough for about 20boats. Water and electricity are also supplied (not free of charge) for the boats, which is really helpful. If the docking spots are all full, the bay offers very good shelter when anchoring ⚓️ in the middle. After the 60-mile trip and 9 hours continued travel, a swim in the beach of the bay really refreshes you..Lue lisää

  • Lesvos with Molyvos

    18. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Another challenging crossing led us to Lesvos Island. 60nm with 5 to 6 Beaufort and 10hours continuing trip. The last 10mn were really tough. Very big waves from all directions and wind gusts that were reaching 7 Beaufort. The Port is very small and mainly occupied by couple of coast guard boats. The seabed is inconsistent thus our anchor was not holding very well. Water is for free but no electricity provided. If the port is full anchoring in the bay is possible and it seems to be well procted. The place has many tourists from Turkey since now they have their holiday period Eid al-Adha.Lue lisää

  • Mitilini..is big

    20. kesäkuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

Yes, it is a not a big city but from what I have visited so far this looks like London. Buses, motorcycles, cars hundreds of tourists, noise..it is crazy but still beautiful. As an ancient city, lying off the east coast, Mytilene was initially confined to a small island just offshore that later was joined to Lesbos, creating a north and south harbor. The early harbors of Mytilene were linked during ancient times by a channel 700 m long and 30 m wide. The Roman writer Longus speaks of white stone bridges linking the two sides. The Greek word εὔριπος eúripos is a commonly-used term when referring to a strait. The strait allowed ancient warships called triremes, with three tiers of rowers or more...long history and always linked to sailors. Very important stop also for all supplies. You can find pretty much everything.Lue lisää
