      Harderwijk - Huizen

      June 29, 2023 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

      Amsterdam

      July 19 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

After spending the night at the train station, I managed to get my train to Netherland. I stopped over at a small neighborhood called Tegelen. Where I found Anytime Fitness gym inside of a former church building to wash up and do a bit of workout. It took me by surprise of how friendly the Dutch are. I got tons of stranger in the neighborhood greeting me in Dutch but I didn’t know how to reply them. So I replied them in English. This might sound ignorant but trust me. I’ve been stuffing myself with new languages every other days in this past few weeks and I think my brain has reached a dead end. And especially, Dutch is probably the most difficult language I’ve ever try to learned so I just gave up considering people in Netherland speak mostly English to foreigners and they also the best English speakers for a country that doesn’t have English as their first language. So it saved me a lot of trouble.

After getting out from the gym, I realized of how mesmerizing the architecture of the Dutch houses are. It felt like i was in a fairy tale scene or some sort. And same thing with Amsterdam, after taking a two hour train ride from Tegelen, I arrived in Amsterdam. And was greeted by thousands of cyclists roaming around the city. Boy, they weren’t joking about it. I think I see more bikes in amsterdam alone than the rest of my life.

It was pretty early in the morning and I went to the local supermarket to get some food for lunch and sat by the riverside to gaze through the calmness of the river water before I realized I saw an Apple Maps car passing by right before my eyes.

Lunch was nice and relatively cheap compared to Switching and a lot tastier too. And I quickly went to my hostel to check-in, it felt so nice after being practically homeless sleeping in moving trains and stations since I left Paris. But i guess it’s part of the adventure and it saved me a lot of money and time to get in to an accommodation.

I met a girl from New Zealand who was very sweet and told me about her frustration arriving in Paris from London where people trying to scam her right after she got out from the train at Gare du Nord in Paris where it’s well knows as one of the sketchiest neighborhoods in Paris.

After taking a short nap, i went out to checkout the city for a sunset photo session, I went to the Rijksmuseum only to found that it is also under renovation. I have no idea why they are all perfectly lined up to be all in renovation while I was there. It took me by disappointment to find out another one of my bucketshoot is out of the picture. So I decided to just sit by the park next to it and just gaze through the Van Ghoh Museum which was already closed for the day (not that I was planning to get inside anyway).

The next day in Amsterdam I spent mostly to explore the city, shop for outfit for Tomorrowland, getting a shit load amount of strop-waffles bc that stuff is gold! I got my outfit for Tomorrowland from a cool thrift shop in downtown Amsterdam, and that was one of the best purchase of the year. I also Zent to Zaanse-Schan in the afternoon, a small iconic village in the outskirts of Amsterdam that are popular among tourists for its windmills and artistic houses.

I went back to the city for a sunset photo-session which turned out to be quite disappointing because my camera battery died and I left the charging cable at my hostel. Such an Idiot.

      Jähes Ende des Urlaubs

      July 17, 2020 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

      To inner peas & hap-pea-ness

      March 25, 2022 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

      Well hello there!

After five years of living in Singapore time has come for Tim and me to move back to The Netherlands. Being close to family and spending more time with them is a great thing, and we look forward to building our life here in the low lands. Still, saying goodbye to our Singapore family has been hard. We’ll need some time to physically and mentally settle - and what better way is there to ponder about life than through travel? (The answer: none!)

Our lifelong dream of slow traveling through India has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 virus and related restrictions, hence we decided to find adventure closer to home and travel by campervan through the south of Europe. From the red little dot (Singapore) to our green little pod (the campervan), we’ll be riding from The Netherlands to Portugal and wherever else our hearts (and let’s be real - the sun) will take us. In other words: to inner ‘peas’ and ‘hap-pea-ness’!

For anyone who’s just as curious as we are to see where we’ll be and what we’ll do, feel welcome to follow this trip and say hi through the comments!

Love from two peas in a pod,
      Judith & Tim

Back in France & back home

      May 23, 2022 in the Netherlands ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

The last few days of our trip are spent in France, starting with a beautiful drive across the border. Mountains, sun and snow make up a perfect landscape. The last few days of our trip are a mix of long hours covering distance towards home and sight seeing a few places on the way.

There is one campsite where we stay a few nights: for the first time on our trip we actually give in to the slow pace of camping life and do nothing. And then nothing some more. Reading a book, playing a game, swimming in the pool AND river… before we started our trip we had imagined that there’d be a lot of these days as that’s how we remember camping with our families when we were kids, but as we went places the excitement of all there’s to see got to us. We have not stayed more than two nights anywhere else - which was never more than necessary for sightseeing and traveling on to the next amazing place to be. Not regretting this traveling style at all, it is pleasant to wind down and take it easy a little more.

One of the other stops is in Creysse, a small typical French village that makes one feel like you are stepping right into the Disney movie of Beauty and the Beast. This town is a familiar spot to Tim, who has gone camping here before when he was little. Just next to the scenic town is our camp site. We get to park our campervan right in front of the Dordogne river, adding to our peace of mind with its continuous sound of water flowing. A great spot! Following the Dordogne we continue to travel north the next day.

Tipped by our parents (in law) we make another noteworthy stop in a village called Collognes la Rouge. A name that means something: the whole town is built using red (rouge) sandstone. The combination of a well preserved historical town and the colour red gives it a bit of a magical vibe. It could have been inspiration for a Disney set, too!

We have experienced a couple of amazing weeks on the road. Being away together, reflecting on our past five years abroad, digesting an impactful emotional past year, exploring new places, appreciating the beauty of Europe, getting excited for living closer to family and finding a new home for ourselves in The Netherlands. I wouldn’t be able to call out what my favourite place of the trip was: it was the journey and variety that made this few weeks special.

We definitely found our hap-pea-ness with our green pod! Now that we’re safe and content back home, it’s time for a new chapter in our lives. Let’s go!

      Nächtliche Besucher

      July 18, 2020 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C
