Beautiful train trip that left out of our first suburb, Addington.

We traveled through Arthur's Pass and arrived in Moana, whose train station is on Lake Brunner.

Just mere meters from the train station is a bar that has $5 glasses of wine and a beautiful view of the lake.Read more

From St Arnaud we drove to Lyell, planning to stay the night. However we didn't like the campsite which was basically a carpark above the main road, so didn't stay. We did go for a walk past the old cemetery and back along the old ghost road.

We carried on to Lake Brunner which was a long drive. We booked into the Motorcamp and were given a site up the back, crowded amongst other caravans. Not quite what we had in mind, but we felt better after a wine, and a walk to the lake.

On Thursday we parked down by the lake for the afternoon, and took the kayak for a paddle up the Arnold River.Read more

Went on a hike to a swinging bridge and found a geocache.

On the walk to and from the hike found the smoker used to advertise a bbq festival in NZ.

Welcome home tonight to our fellow camping buddy Denise Crimp and entrepid explorer Bella 🐕 . We're not too far behind you.
Let's hope those boys don't get up to too much mischief!
We left Otira amidst our first wind and rain, but just for awhile. Drove last bit of Arthur's Pass until you turn off for Blackball. Short stop in pretty Moana to stretch our legs. Blackball next where we bought salami and had lunch at the Hilton. 🏨 lol
Stopped at PIKE River Memorial only 15kms from the mine near the main road. Very moving.
Now we are freedom camping on the river, right in lovely old town Reefton. I like it here and will have an explore in the morning.
