Left the house with a Bolt for the airport. Took the Eliozu road and arrive at the airport shortly before 8:30am. Check in was smooth and effortless. My luggage was 22kg and I was asked to pay 1,000 Naira for the the 2kg excess weight. Back screening scanner wasn't functional and all bags had to be opened and checked by the airport security. Boarding commenced early and we took off at 10:00amRead more

      Waiting for the Airport Taxi

      August 6, 2019 in Nigeria ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Initial taxi I arranged with dissapointed and didn't bother to inform me. Called him at 9:33am to confirm he will be here by 10am only for him to pretend not remembering. I was so pissed, called the clerk at the airport to dispatch another taxi to me.

Finally left the house with another Sienna at 11:14 am

      Departing Port Harcourt

      September 15, 2018 in Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Was woken up by the alarm I set on my phone at 5:00am. Felt very lazy and didn’t get off the bed till 5:30am.

Taxi to the airport arrived at 6:35am. Left the house at 7:06am after installing scrabble dictionary and Maiguard on Imaobong’s laptop which I plan to use on the trip. My old Sony laptop is no longer reliable and doesn’t come on most of the time. Arrived at the airport 30 minutes later.

My Arik Air flight took off shortly after 9:00 am, arrived Lagos at 10:08 am. Had brunch at Bukha restaurant outside MMA2 before calling for a Taxify which took me to Citiheight.
Took a short nap, showered and ordered late lunch at 4:30 pm. Checked out a few minutes after 6 pm, and took an Uber to the international airport, arriving before 7 pm. Check in was smooth and quick.

      Leaving for the airport

      November 13, 2019 in Nigeria ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Left the house at 4pm, the PamDrive ride arrived at 3:52pm. Took the Eliozu road turned off at Pearl Garden estate and continued to Eneka road. Got to the new Port Harcourt International Airport at 4:50pm.

Too many people checking travellers at the airport as against the seamless flow in Lagos. After passing the bags through the door scanner, NDLEA asked for the bags to be opened for inspection. At the lufthansa queue the bags are weighed, passport checked against a passenger manifest before getting to the check in counter where normal checkin happens, seat assignment and bag tagging before proceeding to the departure hall.

At the entrance to the departure area, a port health official takes a temperature scan, after which you are directed to a desk occupied by a FAN worker who confirms if you filled the departure card before directing you to Immigration. At the immigration desk the 1st person scans through your passport keys in details into the computer, collects the departure card before passing your passport to another immigration officer whose job is to stamp the passport. Thereafter you proceed towards the scanning gate, but just before you get there some officials seated behind a desk ask how much you are travelling with and try to crosscheck with the Bank PTA stamp on your passport after which you proceed to the scanner where your hand luggage is passed through a scanner and you also walk through it. Right after which NDLEA officials collect your passport ask for your final destination and scan through it.

Another scanning by the airline before crossing to the boarding gate waiting area

The Genesis of an African Odyssey

      November 1, 2017 in Nigeria ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

I had just gone through a major life changing experience and needed to de-stress, what better way to do this than to relax on a beach over a long weekend. I had heard of the lovely beach in Gambia from colleagues who visited some time back. Gambia is well known as a tourist destination in Africa. Being part of ECOWAS also meant I could visit without going through the cumbersome visa application process, so why not? Immediately I started my research and in less than 2 weeks I had flight, accommodation and tour of Banjul booked.

With no Nigerian airline flying direct from Lagos to Banjul at the time, I had to book Fly Mid Africa, an airline based in Banjul, Gambia.

First leg of the journey was on board an Airpeace flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos on the 1st of Nov 2017 at about 6:00 PM. Spent the night at CitiHeight hotel Ikeja, Lagos.
