Undredal to rest stop near Sogndal

The sun came out, and we set off to explore more majestic fjordland! Magical Undredal to touristy Flåm, up the snow road to the awe-inspiring Stegastein viewing platform, and on up to the snowy plateau before dropping back down again the other side.
Best drive of the trip so far.
Then tunnels and a ferry to Sogndal, where we found this great rest stop to try the new suitcase bbq for the first time. A great success by all accounts 🌭
Tomorrow, we're hoping to reach a glacier - close enough to the road to walk to - if it's not receded too far 🙏Read more

Flåm und Kaupanger

nach der Übernachtun in Undredal spontan der Entschluss….. wir machen eine Fjord-Fahrt. Dazu Boot sich der neue Elektro-Katamaran „TheFjords“ an. Strom aus Wasserkraft treibt diesen Katamaran an und mit nur 25 min Ladezeit haben die Lithium-Batterien ihre volle Kapazität (1800kwh) umd die 2 x 625 Ps Elektromotoren zu betreiben. Wir haben es mit 4h Fahrtzeit sehr genossen. Anschließend ging es zum Campingplatz nach Undredal ( ähnelt eher einem Freihsteplatz) . Sehr schön gelegen.Read more

Zweiter Stopp am heutigen Tag, der Ort Undredal.

Hier steht die kleinste der heute in Norwegen noch existierenden Stabkirchen.
Leider wegen Feiertag geschlossen, aber trotzdem schön anzusehen.
Auch an sich, ist Undredal ein sehr schönes Dorf.Read more

Au bord de l'Aurlandsfjord, faisant face à la paroi verticale de l'autre rive, ce minuscule hameau se consacre à l'élevage des chèvres.
Sa spécialité est le brunost, fromage de chèvre de couleur marron et au gout sucré. Pas testé mais la glace au lait de chèvre a remporté tous les suffrages.Read more

Bergen

In Bergen sind normalerweise 300 Regentage. Wir haben Glück uns begeitet die Sonne. mit der Samnoy Fähre erreichen wir Bergen wo wir in der Stadt bei einer der Johanneskirke parken. Alles ist sehr teuer! Dann gehts nachmittags zum Skjervsfossen. Im Auto piept es ständig. Wir fahren viele unterirdische Tunnel und der CO2 Gehalt im Auto steigt. Die CO2 Warnung schlägt die ganze Zeit an. Unsere Tour bringt uns zum Voringfossen wo wir den 15 Tag übernachten. Weiter gehts dann auf die Aussichtsplattform beim Hotel wo wir geschlafen haben und ich koche uns Lammfleisch welches wir mittags im warmen, freien bei fantastischer Fernsicht genießen. Weiter gehts dann Richtung Naerjofossen und Tvindefossen über weitere Tunnel zu einer alten Stadt am Hafen wo wir eine sehr enge Straße ziemlich bergab fahren und zum Glück einen Parkplatz finden. Undredalsvegen Eldhuset.
Wir kaufen uns um 25,- eine Pizza (Gusto) Dann gehts nach Flansbana wo wir im Regen mit guter Kleidung Shopping machen. In Laerdal am Hafen übernachten wir . Die Temperatur hat nur mehr 17 Grad.
Am 17 . Tag in Laerdal ist wieder Sonne über unseren Köpfen. Wir besuchen heute ein schönes Folkoloremuseum mit Freilichtanlagen. DeHeibergske Samlinger. Danach in die Solvorn Kirke welche leider geschlossen hatte. Nach Nigardsbreen Gletscher gehts weiter. Wir setzen nachmittags mit dem Schiff über. Ein toller Ausflug zum Gletscher- wir sind das letzte Schiff. Dort darf man nicht übernachten. Es ist Naturschutzgebiet und wir fahren auf einen Picknickplatz in Oksvaviki.Read more

Future of the Fjords, Undredal, Norway

today i was sittig at the aurlandsfjord and suddenly a catamaran approached - it was *really* weird because it made NO noise. it was the "future of the fjords", a new 40m long and 15m wide, all-electric sightseeing catamaran built by brødrene aa for norwegian marine transportation company. it can accommodate up to 400 tourists and became operational in may 2018. the vessel was built using lightweight carbon-fibre composite materials to reduce energy consumption, as well as the power and battery capacities. the hull and superstructures feature lightweight carbon sandwich laminates, resulting in approximately 50% weight reduction. the catamaran design also reduces waves and washes on the exposed shores of the narrow fjords.
the catamaran vessel is powered by two electric motors driving propellers through two gearboxes. each electric motor is able to generate a power output of 450kW at 1,180rpm. the compact propeller has a diameter of 1,475mm, while the diameter of the propeller shaft is approximately 100mm. The propulsion system reduces noise and vibrations, NOx and CO₂ emissions while improving fuel efficiency. the advanced charging station is capable of charging the batteries with approximately 800kWh of power during the 20-minute docking period. the propulsion system enables the vessel to sail at a cruise speed of 16k.

undredal is a small village located at the aurlandsfjorden which is a branch off the massive sognefjorden in norway's "fjord-country." it's a veeeery cozy location ❤️ - you can hike along the fjord, sit at the fjord and watch the porpoises 🐬 or enjoy some goat cheese 🐐🧀 in the "kafe ost" at the "undredal brygge". well you can also take a "bath" in the 🐐 goats as you can see in the footage 🤪.
with a population of 100 people and 500 goats, undredal is famous for the brown goat cheese (geitost) that is still produced the traditional way. prior to 1988, undredal was only accessible by boat, but since then a road connection has been made by constructing two lengthy tunnels.Read more
