A day of travel. Home to Madrid

    August 25, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Today was a day of travel ... Nothing exciting to report and I just didn't the day taking things as they came.

The first part of the journey was pretty noisy given that I had forgotten it was the Reading festival, so there were plenty of party goers on the train to Reading before I changed to take the Elizabeth line for the first time to Heathrow.

Travelling on Iberia from Terminal 3 meant that I was able to try the Qantas lounge and Cathay Pacific lounge. No issues with the flight and I checked into the crowne plaza at Madrid airport for the evening. God only knows what they expected me to do with the bike in my room.

    Madrid to Barcelona

    August 26, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I had a fairly late start and after breakfast and a short run got a transfer to the airport at 11:00 a.m.. A captain and then had some more food and a drink while waiting for the plane in the Iberia lounge.

Boarding was pretty swift and the flight was just under an hour during which time they managed to serve, drink and some nibbles - Spanish ham, cheese and bread stick pieces.

On arrival with no customs to go through, it was a quick walk to the station for the short trip into the city. I checked into hotel and then headed back out again to go and meet at Ed who by now had finished work as it was 4:00 p.m.. We had a couple of beers in a street bar and then came back to the hotel for a shower and then headed out for a few more drinks and some food. We had an earlyish night ready for day of sightseeing.

    Montserrat

    August 27, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

So having been to Barcelona before we've seen most of the sites And so we decided to head out of the city to the mountain village of Montserrat. We headed to the train station at Espanya and bought the tickets for the journey.

The train was mostly empty and yet someone still managed to take the bag! We realised halfway through the journey and reported the theft on arrival in Montserrat, although had to wait until we got back to Barcelona to report to the police.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around the town and enjoying the views before getting the funicular railway back down to the station for our return trip to Barcelona.

On arrival in Barcelona we went to the police station to report the theft and spent a frustrating 3 hours waiting for a copy of the report.

We also applied for our emergency travel documents, while having a beer, in the knowledge that it may take a couple of working days to be ready to collect!

Back at the hotel we showered before going out for a few drinks in the city.

Despite the theft, we didn't let it ruin the day or the holiday although it has been a complete PITA.
