Unser Hotel in Fez erweist sich als Glücksgriff. Nicht nur hat unsere Suite zwei grosszügige Räume mit einem luxeriös eingerichteten Bad, wir können unser Frühstück auch alleine auf der Dachterasse mit Blick über die Stadt geniessen. Gegen neun Uhr treffen wir beim nahegelegenen Treffpunkt für unsere heutige Tour ein. Etwas mulmig wird uns, als der Hotelmitarbeiter am Treffpunkt uns mitteilt, er kenne die Firma nicht. Überraschenderweise fährt dann jedoch trotzdem ein Transport vor und nimmt uns mit. Wir teilen uns den Bus mit einer chinesischen Familie, einem Paar aus Italien und einem aus Frankreich. Los gehts zu den Ruinen der Stadt Volubilis. Unsere Reisebegleiterin im Bus erweist sich dabei als wenig hilfreiche Informationsquelle. Sie scheint vielmehr einem Skript zu folgen und kann uns keiner unserer vielen Hintergrundfragen beantworten. Dafür fällt der Satz "Take pictures, you have 5min" umso öfter. In der Ruinenstadt schliesslich findet eine Tour statt, welche wir mit Infos aus dem Reiseführer ergänzen. Von der Gruppe bestehend aus etwa zehn Personen sind es jedoch nur wir zwei, die die ganze Tour mitmachen - die anderen setzen sich ab um das "perfekte Foto" abzulichten, nicht um die Ruinen, sondern sich selbst ins rechte Licht zu rücken.

Our hotel in Fez proves to be a stroke of luck. Not only does our suite have two spacious rooms with a luxuriously furnished bathroom, we can also enjoy our breakfast alone on the roof terrace with a view over the city. Around nine o'clock we arrive at the nearby meeting point for today's tour. We feel a bit queasy when the hotel employee at the meeting point tells us that he doesn't know the company. Surprisingly, however, a transport pulls up and takes us along. We share the bus with a Chinese family, a couple from Italy and one from France. Off we go to the ruins of the city of Volubilis. Our tour guide on the bus turns out to be an unhelpful source of information. She seems to be following a script and cannot answer any of our many background questions. Instead, the sentence "Take pictures, you have 5min" comes up all the more often. Finally, a tour takes place in the ruined city, which we supplement with information from the guidebook. Of the group of about ten people, only the two of us follow the whole tour - the others leave to take the "perfect picture" and not to show the ruins, but to put themselves in the right light.Read more
