Wir gehören wohl zu den wenigen, die in Phuket etwas anderes machen, als am Strand zu liegen. Und dies, obwohl die Region eine interessante chinesisch-malayisch-thailändische Mischkultur aufweist. So klappern wir also in gewohnter Manier, die Sehenswürdigkeiten, inklusive einem alten Landsitz und dem Monkey-Hill ab. Letzterer wird seinem Namen vollkommen gerecht. Beim Weg nach oben wird man von Affengruppen kritisch gemustert, ob es nicht doch etwas gibt, was sie essen könnten. Ihre Favoriten sind jegliche Esswaren, aber auch Wasser-Flaschen. Im Fall eines Touristen, umkreisten sie ihn gar solange, bis er ihnen eher unfreiwillig seine Bierdose überlässt.

We are probably one of the few people in Phuket who do anything other than lie on the beach. And this despite the fact that the region has an interesting mixed Chinese-Malay-Thai culture. So, in our usual manner, we rattle off the sights, including an old country estate and Monkey Hill. The latter lives up to its name. On the way up, we are scrutinised by groups of monkeys to see if there is anything they might eat. Their favourites are any kind of food, but also water bottles.
