Beneath a Dancing Sky

Der Bus der uns heute abholt ist wieder derselbe wie gestern Abend. Unsere Tourguides haben uns beiden diesmal sogar noch Kaffee mitgebracht - wir dafür die Snacks für auf den Weg. Trotz des etwas trüben Wetters sind wir (etwas zur Irritation der anderen Gäste) voller Enthusiasmus mit dabei. Von Yellowknife fahren wir rund eine Stunde in Richtung Westen. Und plötzlich reisst die Wolkendecke auf und offenbart einen klaren Himmel und unzählige Sterne. Von da an heisst es warten. Erst ist es nur ein grüner Schimmer, der sich zaghaft über den Himmel zieht. Und plötzlich tanzen die Nordlichter. Es ist definitiv etwas vom beeindruckendsten, das ich je gesehen habe. Bis zwei Uhr in der Nacht halten wir es in der Kälte aus und geniessen das Schauspiel.
Dann geht es zurück und nachdem die anderen Gäste auf die Hotels verteilt sind werden wir noch zu einem Mitternachtssnack mit dem Guide - Team eingeladen. Definitiv ein Abend, der mir noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben wird.

The bus picking us up today is the same one as yesterday evening. This time, our tour guides have even brought us coffee – and we've brought snacks for the journey. Despite the somewhat gloomy weather, we are full of enthusiasm (much to the irritation of the other guests). From Yellowknife, we drive west for about an hour. Suddenly, the cloud cover breaks and reveals a clear sky and countless stars. From then on, it's a matter of waiting. At first, it's just a green glow that tentatively spreads across the sky. Then suddenly, the Northern Lights begin to dance. It is definitely one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. We endure the cold until two o'clock in the morning and enjoy the spectacle.
Then we head back and, after the other guests have been distributed among the hotels, we are invited to a midnight snack with the guide team. Definitely an evening that I will remember for a long time to come.Read more
