Another Day in Yellowknife

Nach der späten Rückkehr sind wir heute etwas verspätet zum Zmorge unterwegs. Gestärkt mit Kaffee und Gipfeli erkunden wir das örtliche Kunsthandwerk und treiben uns am Ufer des halbgefrorenen Sees herum. Auf der anderen Seite des Seearms liegen zahlreiche Hausboote vor Anker. In dieser Übergangszeit von Sommer zu Winter ist die Situation für die Bewohnenden besonders heikel. Sie schieben sich auf einem Kanu über das Eis, denn es ist noch nicht dick genug um sicher zu sein, dass sie nicht jeden Moment in das eisige Wasser durchbrechen könnten.
Mit einer selbstgeführten Tour schlendern wir noch etwas durch die Stadt, was praktischerweise auch beim Café Sundog und bei der örtlichen Brauerei NWT-Brewing vorbeiführt. In letzterem werden wir schon wie alte Freunde begrüsst. Einen frühen Znacht gibt es dann im lokalen Fischrestaurant, das uns mit dem lokal gefangenen Fisch vollkommen zu überzeugen vermag.
Am späten Nachmittag kommt dann endlich die lange ersehnte Nachricht: ja, wir können heute Abend nochmals auf Aurora-Jagd gehen.

After returning late, we are a little late for breakfast today. Strengthened with coffee and croissants, we explore the local arts and crafts and wander around the shore of the frozen lake. On the other side of the lake, numerous houseboats are moored. In this transition period from summer to winter, the situation is particularly precarious for the residents. They push themselves across the ice in a canoe, as it is not yet thick enough to be sure that they won't break through into the icy water at any moment.
We take a self-guided tour and stroll through the town, which conveniently takes us past Café Sundog and the local brewery NWT Brewing. At the latter, we are greeted like old friends. We then enjoy an early supper at the local fish restaurant, which completely wins us over with its locally caught fish.
In the late afternoon, the long-awaited news finally arrives: yes, we can go hunting for the aurora again tonight.Read more
