Heute sind wir wieder auf den Spuren texanischer Geschichte unterwegs. Erster Halt ist das Städtchen Gonzales, das Texas mit seinem rebellischem Spirit sein inoffizielles Motto verliehen hat: "Come and Take it".
"Come and Take it“ geht zurück auf die Texas Revolution von 1835, als Siedler in Gonzales sich weigerten, eine Kanone an mexikanische Truppen herauszugeben. Der Satz wurde zum Symbol texanischer Unabhängigkeit und Widerstand - und steht bis heute für das Texas-Selbstbild zwischen Frontier-Mythos, Freiheit und Eigenwilligkeit.
Der nächste Ort auf der Route ist Goliad. Das Städtchen hat eine ganz andere Rolle im Mythos der texanischen Unabhängigkeitskriege. Es steht für das düsterste Kapitel der Texas Revolution. Nach ihrer Kapitulation wurden hier 1836 mehrere hundert texanische Kämpfer hingerichtet. „Remember Goliad“ wurde später zum Schlachtruf als Erinnerung an den hohen Preis der Unabhängigkeit. Hier lohnt dich die Besichtigung der alten spanischen Mission (ja noch eine!) Und des Forts.

Today, we are once again tracing the history of Texas. Our first stop is the small town of Gonzales, whose rebellious spirit inspired Texas' unofficial motto: "Come and Take It".
"Come and Take It" dates back to the Texas Revolution of 1835, when settlers in Gonzales refused to surrender a cannon to Mexican troops. The phrase became a symbol of Texan independence and resistance – and to this day represents Texas' self-image between frontier myth, freedom and individuality.
The next stop on the route is Goliad. This small town plays a very different role in the myth of the Texas Wars of Independence. It represents the darkest chapter of the Texas Revolution. After their surrender, several hundred Texan fighters were executed here in 1836. "Remember Goliad" later became a battle cry in memory of the high price of independence.
