On n'a qu'une terre

Ein seltsamer Gedanke kommt mir, als wir früh am Morgen als praktisch einzige Touristen zwischen den Schiffswracks von Muynak stehen. Genau hier wurde die Coop-Werbung mit Stress "On n'a qu'une terre" gedreht, die ich noch aus meiner Kindheit kenne. 
Die Stimmung ist surreal. Wo sich früher eines der grössten Binnengewässer der Welt befand, ist heute Wüste. Staub liegt in der Luft, rostende Schiffe stehen verlassen im Sand und die Stille macht den Ort noch eindrücklicher. Kaum vorstellbar, dass hier einst ein geschäftiger Hafen lag.
Mit dem Austrocknen des Aralsees verschwand nicht nur das Wasser. Für viele Menschen verschwand auch ihre Lebensgrundlage. Die Fischerei brach zusammen und eine ganze Region verlor ihre wirtschaftliche Grundlage.
Wir steigen wieder ins Auto. Muynak lässt uns betroffen zurück.

A strange thought crosses my mind as we stand early in the morning amongst the shipwrecks at Muynak, practically the only tourists there. This is exactly where the Coop advert featuring Stress’s "On n’a qu’une terre" was filmed - one I remember from my childhood. 
The atmosphere is surreal. Where one of the world’s largest inland bodies of water once lay, there is now desert. Dust hangs in the air, rusting ships stand abandoned in the sand, and the silence makes the place all the more striking. It’s hard to imagine that this was once a bustling harbour.
When the Aral Sea dried up, it wasn’t just the water that disappeared. For many people, their livelihoods vanished too. The fishing industry collapsed and an entire region lost its economic foundation.
We get back into the car. Muynak leaves us feeling deeply moved.Read more
